This is a little Japanese Cafe situated at Shoplex Mont Kiara, and it prides itself serving a good range of Ramen, but also offers the common Japanese fare with some Chinese influence. It's pretty much walking distance from my place so sometimes when I'm desperate enough, I'd go there for a meal. They claimed to serve the "Best Ramen" in KL, and I guess if one needs to say this out loud, it should serves as a warning. But I had to try it for myself to see anyway, so I ordered the Tonkotsu Ramen. Pretty unimpressive looking, but the milky and thick broth looked promising. Topped with marinated egg, seaweed, bamboo shoots, char shu, leek and some corn (Hokkaido style? Didn't say so on the menu), I had the first taste of the broth. Unfortunately it was quite underseasoned and not as flavourful as I expected, I had to add quite a bit of soy sauce. Noodles were decent though and the Char Siu were quite tender, though forgettable.Service is ok albeit a little distracted if there are more customers. 繼續閱讀

Opened since 2003 in Mont Kiara Shoplex, Ramen Taiko is a restaurant specialized in Japanese Ramen and Cuka dishes. The restaurant went through premise renovation and improved menu last year, and later welcomed their customers with a brand new look of interior, which is more cozy, spacious and comfortable. The interior is accompanied by comfortable light with soft background music, great for casual dining. My visit there was a pleasure one, and I highly recommended their Chashu- a platter of BBQ pork, cabbage and BBQ sauce. Thinly sliced, the Chashu was sinfully delicious, with equal layer of fat and lean meat. Added on with smoky and flavourful taste, thanks to the BBQ sauce that drizzled over.

Searching for pork can feel like a hassle in Mont Kiara, but these two outlets are worth the hunt on evenings when chicken, beef & fish aren't enough. First up, Ramen Taiko, tucked inside Mont Kiara Shoplex. The restaurant has long cultivated a faithful following in this neighborhood, but it feels more popular than ever now, following a recent refurbishment & revamp of its menu. Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, bristling with a wealth of chashu slices, egg, bamboo shoots, fish cakes, corn & spring onions. Not as satisfyingly aromatic as what Pavilion's Hokkaido Santouka & Fahrenheit 88's Marutama serve, but it'll still muster at least a 'B' in our book. Comfort food is what the crowds crave here. Something disarmingly simple & decisively rustic _ such as stewed duck with rice _ fits that bill perfectly. Pumpkin croquettes, creamy & naturally sweet. Ramen Taiko's expanded menu includes sashimi, makis & more, ensuring that customers won't run out of things to try. Prices are marginally lower compared to chains like Rakuzen. Oh, there are complimentary starters too. Pray for tamago stuffed with unagi. Ozeki Hana-Awaka, a sparkling sake with sugary overtones. 繼續閱讀

I didn't discover this place until much later and it was so near my previous office! Situated in the secluded shoplots behind Baskin Robbins, Taiko has a very interesting shop front which looks like a traditional Japanese house architecture. The selections are not cheap for lunch. The hamburg bentou looks amusing, very different from the usual tenpura or yakiniku bentou. They take quite long to serve and when they do serve, it came a set by a set not all at the same time leaving some of my friends ogling at those who got their food first. At first bite, the hamburg was SUPER SALTY. It was only bearable eaten with rice without the sauce. But it would mean that I wouldn't get my gravy... But thats ok because the rice is moist. I tried eating the sauce with the taufu but it just doesn't taste right. The hamburg meat is actually quite tasty, a bit overcooked but tasty. The chawan mushi was a bit tasteless but still ok. The miso soup was the most normal tasting Japanese dish on the bentou together with the rice haha. It wasn't TOO BAD a meal but if they can just work on the hamburg sauce, it would be much better. 繼續閱讀
