My mum and I were craving for some really good hokkien me and so we went for supper at the famous Ah Wa hokkien mee located at SS14. We heard from our relatives that Ah Wa uses charcoal fire to fry their noodles! So it must be really good because charcoal fire can really make a huge difference to the taste of Hokkien mee.

And after our satisfying supper, I was affirmative that hokkien mee fried under charcoal fire really tasted so much better. The noodles had just the right amount of texture (which is the gooey-ness). And not to mention the smell, it just makes my mouth waters. The noodles were really fragrant, especially when the nooddles were transferred from the wok to the plate. And when they finally served us, I quickly digged in and every bite just makes me want more. To complement the mouth watering hokkien mee, the chilli sauce plays an important role too! The chilli sauce had just the right amount of sweetness and heat. Besides that, the portion was just right for 2 person. But I wish there was more (becasue it taste really goood!)

Apart from the hokkien mee that was simply irresistable, the wat tan hor was really good too! Another word for Wat tan hor is flat rice noodles drenched in egg gravy. I love how thick and light the egg starch gravy was at the same time! I think what makes Ah Wa's wat tan hor stands out was that some rice wine was added into the dish. I could taste the wine and it really elevated the dish.

Great place to find good hokkien mee in PJ. Cooked with charcoal burners and great wok hei. They get packed during dinner time but service is fast so turnaround is quick. They also have good pork soup and fish head noodle soup.Within the restaurant itself there are other stalls serving up good satay, nasi lemak, grill fish and lobak. Nothing to shout about but still tasty.

Cantonese Fried Hor Fun @ RM20 (3 pax)We order cantonese fried hor fun for sharing. I think is a little pricy for 3 pax. I love hor fun with lots of gravy, so i'm very happy to see it when is serve. However, after the first bite i'm very disappointed. The gravy is actually quite mild, the taste is not there. May be they forgotten to put enough salt? The fried hor fun is just alright with slight ''wok hei'' aroma and taste. The cabbage and sliced pork meat is good but the prawns are again tastele

Mum is craving for the rojak in Penang, so i order the rojak for her. She is disappointed as the rojak sauce is totally different from the Penang ones. This rojak serve with cucumber, sengkuang, young mango, crispy crackers and lots of grounded peanuts. The sauce is sweet and ''har gou'' taste is very mild not aromatic enough. They also put too much chilli, tasted quite spicy. I like the sengkuang and cucumber as they are very juicy.

While waiting for the fried hokkien noodle, we order some side orders. Fresh cockles is quite small, but is good as sometimes bigger ones are not fresh. The cockles meat is fat and juicy especially those not very cooked, the bloods did drip out. Dip it with the special made sauce is really nice. The sauce comes with some peanuts and sambal with chilli sauce. None of it has mud in it, shows that the seller is caring to pick the good ones.

While having dinner here, i saw many other tables ordering the seafood. So we also order one fried lala from the seafood stall. They are serving the thin type of lala. Fried with chilli sambal, really very very spicy. I keep sweating eating it and need to order more ice water to continue eating. The lala is quite fresh and consider meaty too. Each of the shell has lala in it, and good there is no mud in it.

The place was still bustling by the time we arrived at nearly midnight. Alas, they had run out of Hokkien Mee, so we settled for Hokkien Beehoon instead. Still delicious, full of all that "wok hei" jazz. We also checked out a stall here selling crispy folded pancakes. Two varieties: Ham, meat floss & mayo and egg, peanuts & cheese. The pancakes were nice and thin, while the stuffing was surprisingly well-prepared, especially the warm, soft egg. The combinations sound a bit strange, but they tas

The only misfire was the oyster omelette. Bland and utterly forgettable.
