Dinner at Formosa, Sunway Pyramid Smile Apr 30, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Noodles | BBQ

Taiwanese cuisine seems to be something rather uncommon in Malaysia. Even if it is, the food quality may not be guaranteed, the portion size may be disappointing, or they may not offer anything that I truly fancy. For instance, I would never suggest XXL Crispy Chicken by Shihlin Taiwan Street Snacks for its disgusting, weird, and smelly taste. Formosa, though, is so far the only one that I would highly recommend to give it a good try apart from Arisan at Taylor's University. Despite being operated by a group of foreigners, the food and services never fail to satisfy me during every visit.

On a side note, I have recently found out that Taiwan was historically known as "Ilha Formosa" by the Portuguese, which it literally means beautiful island.

On that particular night, Don and I did not choose our usual set meals, but we wanted to have more than what our tummies could handle. Formosa offers a very wide selection of choices of set meals to be picked. Some of them may come with or without a cup of drink of your choice, and some may or may not include a bowl of rice. It's totally flexible in a way!

However, unless I need some cold drink to calm myself, I wouldn't prefer to have their Grass Jelly Milk Tea. It tasted like a cup of drink filled with flavoring essence.

Each of us had a bowl of Braised Sauce Rice as usual, and added Braised Egg and Braised Taufu at RM3.00 in total. The first bite had indeed helped to make a life changing decision ever since; I will be sure to order all three of them every single time!

Don preferred their Hot Crispy Chicken while I opted for Taiwanese Salted Chicken to save hassles. Both of them came with soft, tender, and juicy chicken meat covered with crispy outer layer, but cooked in different ways. They're definitely finger licking good! lol

Well, not to worry. The Hot Crispy Chicken wasn't too troublesome to be eaten, in fact. YOU MUST TRY!

Dim Sum at De Templer Restaurant Smile Apr 27, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Malay | Restaurant | Halal | Dim sum

In the afternoon right after Farah sent her mum back home in Cheras, she drove me to this restaurant with Muslim and Chinese cuisines, namely De Templer Restaurant, to fill up our tummies before we headed to Batu Caves. She said she wanted to bring me there and she said she felt good that she did it today. smile Thanks a gazillion, Farah. It's indeed a good recommendation to me, to be frank. All we had were only dim sums instead of other ala carte dishes but the dim sums were kind of huge that our tummies were bloated.

This was a kind of transparent dumpling with awesomely fresh prawns and fresh scallops inside that cost me RM5.80, which was actually the most expensive dim sum among what I had ordered.

I bet you have heard of Siew Mai, since it's the most famous kind of dim sum, but they're usually filled with pork. Nonetheless, this one that I had was filled with purely fresh prawns only. Yes, their prawns were all fresh and well-cooked.

This was another kind of transparent dumpling with only fresh prawns inside, similarly to the Siew Mai filled with prawns above.

This was undoubtedly Chee Cheong Fun with prawns inside. So many dishes with prawns within an hour! Oh yes, I love prawns but the fried onion on top sort of ruined the original taste of it, and it's slightly saltier than usual.

My fried dumplings with more fresh prawns inside! In my opinion, it tasted better without the mayonnaise because I always prefer it to be original. Yes, this kind of fried dumplings seems to be one of my favorite dim sum but unfortunately, most of the dim sum restaurants mix the fillings with meats instead of purely prawns. After the only restaurant that has the yummiest fried dumplings with prawns back in Bandar Menjalara, De Templer Restaurant has definitely become my new love. lol

Seeing this makes me think of announcing good news to all my readers, especially the Muslims. This is definitely a halal restaurant, so you need not worry about anything. All you have to do is step into the restaurant, get a place that you like, settle down, order whatever you want, and enjoy your meal. It's easy! ;)

I rated 4 over 5 for the dim sum but I'm not sure about the other foods they served because I have never tried any of them. Whilst for the services, I rated 3 over 5 because it's only slightly better than normal. What are you waiting for?

Brunch at Madam Kwan's Smile Apr 27, 2013

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

If you have heard of Madam Kwan's, you might as well have known about what it was mainly famous for, services and foods. At least to my mind, they served truly Malaysian cuisine with very efficient services. It was my second time dining in the same restaurant ever since the last day of July 2010, and it is located in Midvalley Megamall.

Some people might say that this is the best Nasi Lemak in town; yes it was, considering where Midvalley Megamall is located at but if you're to say it is the best Nasi Lemak ever, personally, I think the best one goes to Village Park Restaurant at Damansara Utama.

As for the one above, there're actually two types of Nasi Lemak stated in the menu and I nearly ordered the wrong one. One was way simpler and cheaper which I guess it didn't consist of chicken but the one we ordered was the more expensive Nasi Lemak which as you can see, there're chicken rendang, sambal, some spicy chicken floss, half of a boiled egg, and two pieces of cucumber. Two plates of Nasi Lemak were served within 5 to 10 minutes right after we placed our orders.

Apart from Village Park Restaurant that I mentioned previously, I agreed that Madam Kwan's also served one of the very few best Teh Tarik I have ever tried. Yummm! lol

If you have never heard of Steven's Corner, it is now the moment for you to have an overview about this famous spot for people, especially youngsters, to hang out in the midnight. Read the articles here (http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.415759338358.193647.714713358&type=3)!

I usually visit Steven's Corner when I stay overnight at Don's house, which also means I rarely drop by the restaurant. Yet, I will always be sure to return for their Roti Telur Cheese without having to go through their menu to try something else. It is literally Roti Canai, a type of Indian-influenced flat bread famous in Malaysia, filled with egg and cheese, giving you a springy flavor as you chew a mouthful of it. Om nom nom!

Don preferred to have something heavier that night, as he was in hunger. Thus, he ordered Cheese Naan. For your information, naan is quite similar to Roti Canai, but they don't look the same. Naan is a leavened, oven-baked flat bread usually cooked in a tandoor, whereas Roti Canai is often flattened, oiled, folded, and fried on a pan. Needless to say, Don's Cheese Naan was just as finger licking good as it seems from the picture above.

Every dinner at Steven's Corner that I had was extremely sinful indeed, for the amount of oil I had consumed and the fact that I tended to go to bed before digestion. I was never brought to the restaurant during the day! Albeit so, I would highly recommend you to order Roti Telur Cheese should you drop by Steven's Corner at OUG, Old Klang Road one day. It's definitely worth a try!

Brunch at iKar Restaurant, Kepong Smile Apr 11, 2013
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

I was totally amazed by the fact that iKar Restaurant was once published on the newspaper, which the page was specially laminated and stuck nicely by the glass door at this particular brunch where I have been visiting repeatedly. It's my love for fish head noodles that brought me to this restaurant, and iKar Restaurant is the only place that serves the best fish head noodles I have ever eaten in my life so far.

Nonetheless, specializing in fish head noodles doesn't make their drinks significantly good. In actual fact, Don and I ordered a cup of drink merely to quench our thirst. Get it?

To be specific, it's a cup of Sugarcane Juice that tasted like some syrup.

As usual, with the number of flavors available on the menu, I was always in a hopeless tangle. I have always wanted to try some new flavors, yet I could hardly let go of my strong craving for my favorite Cheese Creamy Soup although oftentimes, my stomach would be pretty plump after meal. It's too heavenly delicious!

According to their website, the high content of calcium in cheese helps to strengthen bones and teeth, and prevent osteoporosis. It is also rich in Vitamin B, which is good for maintaining healthy and supple skin. High fat and proteins in cheese can help to gain weight.

Don had their Sweet Corn Creamy Soup, which was one of their new flavors introduced quite a while ago, other than Yam with Beet Root Soup, Tomato Soup, and Spicy Hot and Sour Soup. My first experience with Sweet Corn Creamy Soup was not really pleasant. It was almost tasteless. I'm not sure if it has something to do with the chef, or they have improved, Don's was really yummy with strong corn fragrance.

Other than the wide variety of soup flavors offered, another best thing about iKar Restaurant is that you can pick some of the main ingredients from the lists given. Don and I opted for thick noodles, and we would never love to get our dories fried for its original juiciness. Undeniably, iKar Restaurant serves all of my favorite in a huge bowl whenever I crave them all!
