Matcha Snow Ice OK May 27, 2012
Categories : Taiwanese | Restaurant | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt | Ice Cream / Froyo / Gelato

It was a hot day and we were craving for some cold and icy drinks. ABC? Cendol? No no, everybody goes to the Taiwanese desserts nowadays.

Finally I chose this café as they had the Matcha ice which sounds cooling and refreshing. We ordered Matcha ice with 3 toppings (MYR 6.00): Grass jelly, peanut glutinous dumpling and aloe vera; and Lemon Ai Yu with yoghurt pearls (MYR 4.50).

The Matcha ice was smooth and flavorful. But it was sweetened by the condensed milk that drizzled on top. I should request them to serve the condensed milk separately. The toppings were nothing special as they were from the packaged food.
Bad!

Bad!

The ice for the Lemon Ai Yu was not as smooth as the Matcha ice. The lemon jelly and lemon syrup were not lemonade enough for me as I only tasted sweet rather than sour. Yeah, desserts are always sweet. I didn’t like the yoghurt peals at all simply because the creaminess burst out from the pearls was disgusting.

Lei Cha Smile May 27, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

After having too much animal protein during the weekdays, I decided to have a light lunch on weekend. Organic meal sounds refreshing and wholesome, right?

Organic Lei Cha (Pounded tea) Rice is their most famous dish (MYR 13.90 for small portion). Since they were promoting healthy diet, they only served brown rice. The condiments were celery, carrot, soy beancurd, cekur manis, black fungus, Choy Sum, dried radish and long bean. All vegetables were slightly blanched to remain their crunchiness and natural sweetness. Instead of peanuts, they served sunflower seeds which were surprisingly more flavorful.

The Lei Cha soup here was added with some kinds of Chinese herbals which contributed to a little bitterness. I still prefer the version from my mom.

Spending per head: Approximately RM15(午餐)

Keema Thosai Smile May 19, 2012   (Related Review)

This was my third visit to this restaurant. I ordered Thosai set with Keema (MYR 3.50).

The set come with 2 pieces of Thosai, dhal, Keema (vegetarian minced meat), coconut chutney and mint chutney.

The keema was not my cup of tea though cooked with curry as I don’t enjoy eating meat analog. I finished my 2 pieces of thosai with dhal and mint chutney. I like the mint chutney very much! It was not only minty but with pungent spiciness and a little taste like Hakka Lui Cha.

Noodles Smile May 19, 2012

There are a lot of good reviews about this restaurant especially its Claypot pearl noodles (a.k.a. Claypot Loh See Fun). So it was a lovely off day for me to try it out!

We ordered 1 Claypot pearl noodles (MYR 8.00 for small portion) and 1 Sam See noodles (MYR 9.00 per portion).

The Claypot pearl noodles were loaded with lots of fragrant minced pork and topped with a raw egg which would be cooked by the hot noodles from the claypot. The moistness was just nice after stirring altogether. It didn’t turn out too dry or too much gravy which I don’t like. It would be a balanced dish if there are some greens.

The Sam See noodles are 3 types of shredded vegetables (carrots, Chinese cabbage and Chinese mushroom) with egg noodles. Other than shredded vegetables, there were pork slices too. The vegetables and the pork slices were cooked with full-flavoured stock, slightly thickened with egg and poured onto the blanched egg noodles. The gravy was well seasoned. I even finished the gravy like having it as soup.

Pancha Chapatti Set OK May 09, 2012

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Mixed rice | Vegetarian

Gopala is an Indian vegetarian restaurant which serves food without garlic and onion. I wondered how’s their curry and dishes taste without using these 2 basic ingredients.
It was lunch time and the staff gave me a lunch menu which comprises of several lunch sets. I picked a Pancha Chapati set (RM5.50).

The Pancha Chapati set comprises of 2 pieces of chapatti, 1 curry, 1 sambar, 1 vege, 1 kottuu and 1 special rice.

The special rice -- vegetarian briyani rice was fluffy cooked. I loved it and hoped to have more. The chapattis were made in advance, so they were cool when served to me. They were dry and tough. I should get a freshly made next time.

Though there were no onion and garlic, the curry and sambar enhanced by lots of spices which gave them a good aroma and taste.

The vege of the day was a braised fennel. Hmm… it was the first time I ate the cooked fennel. It tasted sweet naturally.

They serve delicious vegetarian satay too (Dinner menu) which could inspire you to love vegetarian food! I will go back to try it.
