Pontian Wanton Noodle Cry Dec 17, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Coffee

I heard from friends that Pontian Wanton noodle is served with special tomato sauce. It is a different version from the usual Wanton noodle.

There is an outlet of Pontian Wanton Noodle near my working place. We went there for lunch in an afternoon. The interior was designed to a kintergarden-like canteen, with colourful furnitures.

There were set menus and a la carte items. I opted a set with Wanton Noodles in Tomato sauce + Hot tea while my colleague took the Wanton Noodle in Chilli Soy sauce + Hot coffee set (MYR6.50 per set for small portion).

It was a disappointed lunch for us. I found that they used the commercial tomato sauce instead of homemade one to serve their signature dish.

For the chilli soy sauce version, it was too oily to be eaten. Somemore the deep-fried Wantons were smelly due to the repeated used oil.

A Let Down ThaiUp Cry Sep 07, 2012

I love hot and sour food. Since the Korean restaurant/cafe was full, I opted for Thai food. We chose to sit at the table facing the famous Siew Long Bao Chinese restaurant – Ding Tai Fung. Huh, how a nice reality show!

I ordered Pad Thai (MYR14.90), a popular fried rice noodle from Thailand; while my brother ordered their chef’s recommended dish – Mixed rice + Grilled chicken with Green curry sauce (MYR14.90).

My Pad Thai: Stir-fried rice noodle with LITTLE bean sprout, served with 1 blanched prawn and 2 slices of blanched squid, 1 teaspoon of chili flakes and 1 tsp of pounded peanuts. The rice noodle was stir-fried until sticky, not tasty and quite greasy. It was plain with little bean sprout only. The seafood was overcooked especially the squid was too rubbery!

For the rice set, the rice was fragrant with ginger and nice to eat with the coconut-based green curry gravy. The only complaint was the cooled and overcooked chicken (They did not reheat it properly or we waited too long for the cutleries to be brought?).

We were totally not satisfied to pay the 10% sluggish service charge. Firstly, the staffs ignored us but went to take order at the table next to us even we reached first. Secondly, they did not bring cutleries to us when serving food and we have to wait about 5 min for the cutleries. We definitely will not visit here again.

Vegetarian Food OK Jan 11, 2013

Is the food from food court not delicious and costly? I won’t say it’s 100% true as I found Food Junction – a classy food court with lots of choices.

I opted for vegetarian food since I had fast food in the afternoon. I ordered Tom Yam Vermicelli (MYR 7.90).

The Tom Yam loaded with lots of tomatoes, oyster mushrooms and kangkung. The soup was flavoured with tomatoes and lemongrass but too much canned Tom Yam paste which I found a little salty.

With such a long queue ordering a la carte items, I totally satisfied their service as it only took around 12 minutes to get my food done.

There were many choices of soy beancurd here, either hot or cold with different toppings and flavours as well.

I tried their signature dessert before -- Ginger soy beancurd, it was a warm dessert!

I chose spirulina oat soy beancurd this time. A simple dessert with 3 in 1 spirulina cereal and evaporated milk added into soy beancurd, a slightly too sweet for me.

The staffs were not attentive as I had to wait about 5 minutes to get the menu. However, I would visit again for the smooth soy beancurd dessert.

Craving for high-carb or protein food? SS2 Murni would be the best choice since their serving size was almost doubled than normal portion.

I have tried some of their signature dishes like Mee Raja, Pizza Dinosaur, Nasi Lemak Ayam Pandan and Spaghetti Bolognese. I took another Chef’s recommendation this time – Naan Garlic Cheese (MYR4.50) and Claypot Loh See Fun (MYR5.00).

Their services impressed me much. There were so many tables with different orders. I wondered how they remember every order without writing down and they managed to serve very fast without mistake.

I was sitting at the table near to the kitchen. So I could see all the dishes came out from the kitchen. Mee Raja and Chicken chop were the best sellers during that night!

My food came within 5 minutes after taking order. The half-cooked egg became well scrambled egg after stirring the Loh See Fun in the hot claypot. The gravy was just nice coating on every strand of noodle. It’s really one of the best Halal Claypot Loh See Fun in town.

The Naan was soft and fluffy with garlic aroma. It was the best when eaten hot without any dipping.

Though the price was costly than other Mamak restaurant, the food was value for money since the serving portion was big enough to satisfy your hunger!
