set lunch that worth your money Smile Aug 21, 2014

Winter Warmers Coffee and Tea House is well-known for their Afternoon Tea. Other than that, they also serve a wide range of tea (iced fruit tea, hot milk tea and herbal tea), Italian coffee and flavoured coffee (rose coffee, green tea coffee, chocolate mint coffee, lavender coffee, etc), western delight, pasta, Belgian waffles, sandwiches and desserts. They are also selling a range of tea and tea sets in their restaurants.

They have now a total of seven branches: six in Penang and one in Selangor (The Curve). So far we only been to their outlet in Gurney Plaza and Queensbay Mall. Both outlet with relaxing and tranquil atmosphere, making it a favourite place for breakfast, lunch, high tea or dinner. Their table setting is another thing that worth a mention, classisc and unique. Flora table cloth is used and they have many distinctive design of tea cups.

Their brand new design of menu.

And we just realized they also offer set lunch. Hence, we decided to give a try. Each set comes with a salad, a main course and a beverage. You may also add on RM 4.50 for any of their cake of the day or cheese cake.

For the beverage of first set lunch, we opted for their original Green tea. They have a total of five different green tea for you to choose from: moonlight roses, gunpowder, sweet osmanthus, orchid garden and jasmine paradise. We decided to go for the first one.
Moonlight roses greentea (RM 6.90).
An excellent home blends tea creates its sweet and aromatic flavour. A pot of tea with hint of floral flavor and great source of anti-oxidants. The rose fragrance is subtle and the taste is mild. An edible flower floats on top makes a darling decorative touch.

For second set of lunch, we added RM 1 to change the black tea or green tea to other hot beverage.
Kenya tea latte (RM 7.00).
An elegant and lifely taste of tea with fresh milk makes it a perfect tea. I never heard of Kenya tea or coffee until I read a book by 九把刀 Giddens Ko, 等一个人咖啡 (cafe..waiting..love). This then peaked my curiousity and interest to give a try on Kenya tea latte. And for your information, most tea produced in Kenya is black tea. This Kenya tea latte can be considered as one of the best tea latte I ever had. Smooth and aromatic. Thumbs up. Kenya tea makes good latte.

The appetizer - Salads.
Fresh vegetables served with in house dressing. Very good.

One of the main course, seafood spaghetti with white sauce (RM 22.90).
Normal spaghetti with generous amout of seafood such as mussels, prawn, squid and scallops. The white sauce is prepared with mushroom slices, topped with herbs sprinkles. Thick and creamy. Be sure to eat this as soon as possible after served when it is still hot.

Another main course, baked seafood marina waffle (RM 22.90).
It is Belgian waffle, soft inside and crisp at the outside. It is topped with seafood (such as mussels, prawn, crabstick and scallop) and cheese, then, baked. This waffle is quite special because it has seafood topping instead of ice-cream, banana, cookies, honey or jam. Although the baked cheese is a bit too dry, but with seafood it makes an interesting texture teasing your taste buds with every bite. Not bad.

We added on RM 4.50 for a piece of cheese cake, Lavender cheesecake.

One of the unique cheesecake we have ever tasted although we were quite freak out about it in the beginning. This cheesecake is quite dense, with Lavender fragrant but not overpowering. It leaves a lingering taste on our tongue that we won't soon forget. We love the scent of Lavender. It looks attractive too, with Lavender flowerettes on top and in between the cheese cake.

We will definitely pay more visit to this restaurant. Thumbs up.

Winter Warmers at Gurney Plaza....Our first visit to Winter Warmers.

Iced mixed fruit tea (RM11.90).
Served chilled in a small jug and it is one of the house specialty. Slices of fruit such as orange, apple and lemon are added into the tea. Fruit can definitely jazz up any iced tea and this is doubtedlessly one great cold, refreshing drink. Not too sweet. However, the amount of ice cubes is a bit too much and the tea get diluted over time.

Jasmine freeze tea (RM 7.90).
Refreshing.

Fettuccine carbonara (RM 14.90).
Fettuccine is not over-cooked and we like this al dente pasta texture. The carbonara sauce is creamy but not cheesy. Overall, it tastes average to us.

Grilled dory fish (RM 16.90).
Better than the fettuccine carbonara. The dory fish is grilled to light brown, then topped with creamy sauce. Fine texture and light flavour. Cold twisty curvy pasta salad and potato cubes are served as side. Overall, it tastes good.

Good place for dining.

Winter Lover Bakery House is located at Jalan PJU 5/21, Kota Damansara. It took me quite awhile to search for it because I hardly go to that area as opposed to Sunway Giza and it is located at upstairs of double storey shop lots. Please note that no shoes are allowed inside the bakery house, hence you need to take off and leave your shoes at the shoes rack.

The interior design of Winter Lover Bakery House is much similar to Full House or Garden Cafe but much simpler. It exhales tranquillity and relaxation, makes me feel so comfortable and blissful sitting in there. In addition, I like the wallpaper they used to decorate the plain wall. Here I included a few photos to share with you the interior design of this bakery, as below:

According to their Facebook page, they are a featured bakery house serving their specialty of Mille Crepe and macaroons. In addition, they are also making their effort to cultivate the flower tea culture in Petaling Jaya. For flower tea lovers, maybe you can give a try.

They are offering a variety of Mille Crepe (really a lots). For instance, oreo madness, French chestnut, banana & chocolate, original/vanilla, caramel macchiato, raspberry yogurt, hokkaido milk, citrus cheese, mango, 3 in 1 (vanilla, chocolate & strawberry), trio chocolate (white, milk, dark chocolate), tiramisu, strawberry, rum & raisins, baileys, matcha azuki, peanut blueberry, etc. We had a tough time to decide which two flavours to pick and then in the end.......... the gluttonousness chosen matcha azuki and musang durian king.

Musang Durian King Mille Crepe. It contains musang durian blended in fresh whipped cream. This Mille Crepe is their weekend special Mille Crepe, so not sure if they are selling this during weekdays. So blissfully happy that I came on Saturday and I had the chance to try this. The taste of durian is so appetizing. Both of us love every bites of this and the delicate texture of crepe. I'm sure I will come back again for this.

Matcha Azuki Mille Crepe (Matcha = green tea, Azuki = red bean). This Mille Crepe uses high quality of green tea powder imported from Japan and then blend together with red bean. I like green tea but not red bean (It was my friend who chosen this flavour). But surprisingly the combination of green tea and red bean in this way turns out to be so great. The taste is not so strong, not too sweet and very refreshing. You will definitely marvel at it in harmony of the combination.

As for the drink, not too much options. But I think they are offering good coffee such as toasted hazelnut coffee, arabica gold coffee, white coffee, dark coffee, and last but not least, the DURIAN COFFEE! I never heard about durian coffee. It is interesting to try it out and it tastes excellent (at least to me) with durian taste. But my body feels like it's heating up after a cup of this durian coffee. So I grabbed cooling water to relieve the body heatiness.

Other than coffee, they serves honey lime with jelly and passion fruit. We ordered passion fruit because my friend not really a big fans of coffee. Pleasant drink for a hot day.

I'm really in love with their Mille Crepe and I will definitely come back for more.

坐落于 Gurney Paragon Mall 六楼的 Brown Pocket, 专卖咖啡和甜点(crepe, pancake, pizza),尤其是巧克力甜点。咖啡屋的外观很美,都是一大片一大片的落地玻璃。

Brown Pocket

Good place for a brunch retreat Smile Jan 12, 2014

Categories : Western variety | Café | Burgers / Sandwiches

The Good Batch, one of the cafe which being featured as the top 10 brunch cafe in The Star newspaper, is definitely a place that worth checking out. We were there on a Saturday night for dinner.

This cafe is quite spacious. With cemented floor, wooden tables and dim lighting, it provides a calm and relaxing environment for you to dine in.

After a glance at their menu, then only we discover they are offering all-day breakfast/brunch dishes as well as a few after 6pm mains, desserts, coffee, juices and alcohol beverages (Not to forget to mention, this cafe has an all-day bar). Although with quite limited options, all the food items in the menu sound delectable (especially those egg-laden breakfast platters).

Caffe Latte (RM 8.50).
Not too sweet, not too bitter, and to my brother liking.
Between, complimentary water is given to all the dine-in customers.

The "Ang Moh" (RM 25.90)
Consists of two softly scrambled organic eggs, streaky beef bacon, grilled chicken sausage, ripened cherry tomatoes, baked "Portobello" mushroom, pan fried potatoes, dad's baked beans and lightly toasted bread. We like the scrambled eggs as they are softly set, slightly runny in places and moist in texture. The streaky beef bacon was irresistible, it wasn't the crispy type, not too hard in texture and most importantly not salty. The cherry tomatoes were juicy and the pan fried potatoes were tasted really good, slight crispy on the outside yet perfectly done on the inside.

The baked "Portobello" mushroom which served together with The "Angmoh". One of the best baked mushroom we ever tasted, great tasting, juicy and we like its dense flavour.

Hang Over Mess (RM 20.90)
Corned beef mixed with pan-fried potatoes and capsicums, topped with two sunny side-up and drizzled with herb-infused Hollandaise. Portion was considered small although with quite generous amount of potatoes and corned beef. The sunny side-up was good, especially when you eat it with the Hollandaise sauce. However, the corned beef hash texture wasn't really pleasant to us in term of the tenderness (too soft), but it goes very well with the pan-fried potatoes.

The Italian Job (RM 24.90)
A creamy Portobello mushroom risotto topped with poached egg. The poached egg was perfect and good. The same goes to the Portobello mushroom, so good in taste and juicy. The risotto was made with cheese and it was smooth, creamy and oozy. A thumbs up for this dish, although the portion was quite small.

New Yorker (RM 23.90)
Version of hotdog with a twist, topped with corned beef, completed with a mix of their homemade sauces, served with a side of chips. Hotdog was just normal, corned beef was the same as those served in Hangover Mess, the chips were good and in overall, this dish wasn't a bad try.

The Good Stuff (RM24.90)
A mouth-watering dessert which looks appetizing. This freshly baked toast with mangoes was lightly dusted with powdered sugar and paired with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream. One of the best sweet dessert we ever tried.

Awesome place for a brunch retreat, although price is on a higher side.
