Shabu Shabu!  OK Oct 24, 2013
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Buffet | Steamboat/Hotpot

Jiro Shabu has been around for quite some time, but I have never tried it out before until last Sunday night.

Jiro Shabu is a kaiten style shabu shabu restaurant (revolving belt steamboat restaurant). The interior was quite stylish and sleek, with the contemporary lighting and wallpaper.

It was quite clear that it was our first time here, with the blur look we gave to the waiter LOL. The waiter immediately understood that "look" and explained to us how the restaurant "works"

You can either go for their "All-you-can-eat" Shabu Shabu at RM35 per pax, where you have access to ANYTHING the restaurant offers (sushi, tenoura, fried rice, drinks, ice-cream...) or go for their ala-carte/set which costs much cheaper.

We opted for the ala-carte and the waiter presented us their menu. There were various sets for us to choose from, from chicken set to mushroom set for the vegans, pork, beef, Seafood or even combo set for the indecisive ones lol and the price was really affordable too! Each set is served with a hugeeee bowl of veggies (white cabbage, bok choy, mushroom, crab stick, tofu, cheese sausage, sweet corn, fish cake and much more!) and a carbo side (choice of Rice, Udon, Instant Noodle, Ramen, Pan Mee, Vemicelle and Bamboo noodle!) so many choices @@

Various condiments for customer to dip their food! I really liked the garlic chili sauce! I took one full bowl of it and finished it LOL

Besides steamboat, Jiro Shabu also serves a variety of other food such as Tenpura, Fried Rice, Garlic Mussels and French Fries & Nugget drenched in mayo & cheese!

SUSHI!! One piece of sushi cost RM2, except for the California Sushi (2 pieces for RM1)
This plate cost us RM4 smile The sushi tasted OK. Like the ones you could get from supermarket. The coloured ebiko doesn't taste as bad as it seems.

The various raw food on the conveyor belt! Each plate cost RM2, any colour lol

One of the thing I love most about Jiro Shabu is their individual pots! I don't need to worry about my meat getting stolen by anyone hahaha lol

There's three type of soup to choose from: Clear Soup, Kim Chi Soup and Tomyam Soup. I opted for the Tom Yam Soup.
If you think that the soup looks really "clear" you're right. The taste of the soup was really minimal. I guess you could say it's healthier as the soup wasn't oily at all.

Our vegetables bowl! The bowl was really deep! I couldn't finish the whole thing and dumped some into my brother's pot. The soup tasted a lot better and flavourful after dumping the food in =)

Slices of Pork! Pork Set RM11.90
The pork was sliced thinly to perfection. The pinkish colour of the pork was a good indication that the pork was fresh.
My dad loved it a lot. He said the pork was tender

My seafood order! Seafood set RM16.90 I'd rate a 5 star for their presentation.
Taste wise, the squid, prawns and fish were quite fresh. However, the scallops, I don't think it was scallops :X it tasted like fish paste rather than scallops and their texture says otherwise too.

Overall, Price was decent, service was prompt, food was average but fresh, but my dad loved it a lot. However, I'd drop by again if I have any steamboat cravings.

Ebi Tenpura Don  Smile Oct 21, 2013

Tucked in one of the corner of Jaya Grocer, along with Hanks and Fresco, Hikari is a Japanese restaurant, with the el fresco dining concept.

The simple dining area of Hikari is awkwardly placed in the middle of one of the isle of Jaya Grocer. The management was kind enough to set up some divider in order for their customers to dine in with peace smile
[

Unlike most Japanese restaurants, Hikari practices self service where customers has to order and make their payment at the counter.
Upon ordering and making my payment, the waiter handed me a number plate so that he could deliver my order efficiently

Green Tea is FOC smile and refillable too! You can just grab a cup and fill it up yourself at the counter where they place their cutleries and condiments.

Green Tea- available in hot or cold

Ebi Tenpura Don RM13.90
Hot and fluffy japanese rice topped with egg, caramelized onions, deep fried battered shrimps and a huge dollop of ebiko
I took a bite off the ebi tenpura. And I instantly fell in love with it. The shrimp was so flavourful, tender and succulent! The exterior was really crispy, despite being soak in some soup to give it extra flavours

Miso Soup (Comes with meal)
The miso soup is served with a few slices of raddish, carrots and some wakame (seaweed). The soup was not hot, and quite bland in taste.

Overall, it was a great dining experience, despite some misses. However, the service was really pleasant, the waiters were attentive and friendly- Definitely a plus point.

Fresh Sushi are available at the counter for those on the go too =)

Pizzaa! Smile Oct 17, 2013

The cosy interior. The restaurant is decorated with cottage style furniture which gives us a homey feel. If you look closely you'll spot bananas and grapes hanging on the ceiling lol.

RM17.90 - Beef Bacon, Onion, Eggs and Cheese!
The Pizza is baked in a hot stone oven. Thus, the crust is crispier and chewy, and the pizza has an aromatic wood fire taste. The bacon and egg compliments each other under a generous bed of cheese We really enjoyed this pizze. It'd be better if the onion is cooked beforehand as it tasted a little raw.

Waffles + Chocolate Ice-cream + Chocolate Sauce + Whipped Cream, RM10.90

Banana and chocolate have always been my favorite combination in desserts. The chocolate sauce and whipped cream compliments the waffles perfectly. The warmth of the soft waffles melts the ice-cream, giving it an extra chocolate-y bite.

Waffle cravings sastified and we will be back for more =)

HERB FRIES Smile Oct 17, 2013   (Related Review)

Fries + Dipping Sauce
You can never leave burger lab without ordering their fries. NEVER. These thick yet fluffy fries are seasoned with a dash of salt & pepper and rosemary. WARNING: IT IS REALLY ADDICTIVE! Extra credit is given to their special in-house dipping sauce. We asked for extra as it was too addictive and we can't stop dipping our fries in it! =p It tasted a little spicy with some tanginess- lovely
