Pandan Banana Fritters Smile Sep 08, 2013   (Related Review)

There were quite a bit of desserts that Serai offers. We wanted to try them all, but the stomach wouldn’t allow it. We finally settled on the pandan banana fritters. The banana fritters’ batter was very light, and hardly had any leftover oil. Four pieces of bananas fried to golden perfection, and the banana itself was ripe and sweet, however, not much pandan taste. There was a small jug of palm sugar served. When eaten with the banana, it was very delicious. A scoop of vanilla ice-cream was part of the set, and it was served on a bed of crushed peanuts. Priced at RM13, it was well worth the amount paid.

Minted Calamansi Soda Smile Sep 08, 2013   (Related Review)

Wifey ordered the minted calamansi soda. I thought the drink tasted pretty good. Slightly on the sweet side due to the ice-cream soda, but still quite acceptable. There were lots of mint leaves in wifey’s drink, which gave it a good minty flavour. The calamansi flavour was also quite apparent. The drink was not diluted at all, as the ice given was just enough. Very well worth the RM10.50 paid.

Serai Iced Tea Smile Sep 08, 2013   (Related Review)

I ordered the Serai Iced Tea for my drink. It came quite fast, and it was very chilled. It had a ball of lemon sorbet floating in it, with a tinge of lemongrass extract and a hint of mint due to the mint leaves floating in the drink. My first taste of the drink tasted slightly bitter. However, after mixing the lemon sorbet, the drink turned out pretty good. Very refreshing and cleansing. However, the price tag of RM12 seemed to be a bit steep.

Wifey was not feeling very adventurous hence she went with an order of nasi lemak. The food came in a jiffy, and the portion was quite big as well. The rice was fluffy and full of santan flavour. The usual condiments consisted of half a hard-boiled egg, some fried peanuts, crunchy anchovies and a couple slices of cucumbers. There was also a small bowl of sambal prawns given. The fried chicken was humongous, well fried till brown with the meat super juicy and tender. Priced at RM16 per plate, it was well worth the amount paid.

Serai Platter Smile Sep 06, 2013

Categories : Malay | Western variety | Restaurant | Nasi Lemak

I have heard many a good things about Serai, and it is high time to pay them a visit. So wifey and I braved the Friday evening jam at LDP to get to Paradigm Mall. The restaurant is located above The Loaf, and it was kind of hard to find actually, especially when there were some constructions going on. Anyhow, we managed to locate it and the friendly waiters showed us our seats. We took quite a long time to order, as we didn't know what to eat. There were choices of local cuisine as well as western fare.

Cutleries were put on the table, with specialised Serai serviettes.

Pretty flowers adorning the tables, with Serai chair covers.

I ordered the Serai platter, and it was their signature dish. When the dish came, it was a huge portion! There was fluffy rice, very well done. A portion of oxtail assam pedas, spicy and delicious. The meat was tender and juicy. Some honey squid was also part of the set. I thought the squid was a bit too chewy. The sweetness of honey was very apparent, quite a unique flavour. The acar was fresh, quite eye-squintingly sour, but it gives a good tangy flavour to the entire dish. The highlight of my Serai Platter is most definitely the huge piece of ayam goreng berempah. The chicken was fried till golden brown, skin crispy while the meat is tender and juicy. Priced at RM25, it was definitely well worth the amount paid.
