Tomyam Kung Pia (Seafood Tomyam) Smile Jul 23, 2012

Tomyam Kung Pia (Seafood Tomyam)

The waitress serving us were very polite and pleasant. Even though the place was packed, we were still given our due attention to order and served. I guess they're already used to big crowds, hence are effective in handling the crowd.

The tomyam tasted good with a generous amount of prawns thrown in. The soup wasn't too sour with the exact amount of spiciness we would expect from an authentic Thai Tomyam

Claypot Tofu Smile Jul 20, 2012

Chinese Recreation Club Restaurant or better known as CRC Restaurant in Padang Victoria, Penang is nothing new to the folks in Penang. Numerous wedding dinners, company functions, and family "makan-makan" have been held here throughout the years

The claypot tofu dish that came here, had a variety of vegetables and mushrooms all served in savoury sauce inside a big claypot. The mushrooms were cooked to perfection, as was the tofu, which went really well with the rice. One of my favourite vegetable dishes, the claypot tofu was a staple dish whenever we dined at CRC

Fragrant rice and "Eu Cha Kueh"

I would like to review on their rice and eu char kueh as well. On top of Soon Peng's delicious pork delights and bak kut teh, I am glad to say that their rice was perfectly done up to with a strong hint of oil and fragrant butter garlic. Notice I added in the black thick soy sauce on the rice, this is to enhance further the taste.

Soon Peng Restaurant fried the eu cha kueh themselves which we just have to order. The eu cha kueh will complement the herbal bak kut teh soup.

Bak Kut Teh Smile Jul 20, 2012

Bah Kut Teh

My better half, Janice's hometown is in Sungai Bakap, and everytime I'm there, we never fail to drop by this Soon Peng Bah Kut Teh

The meat was really tender, when eaten with the vegetables, meatballs and soup, I actually smacked my lips in satisfaction. I don't like it when the soup tastes watered down or too salty, and this bowl of Bah Kut Teh soup was just perfect with some really nice fragrant. All these for a price of only RM29, inclusive of the rice and kueh.

Sweet and Sour "Heh Kor Bak" - Mantis Prawn

I really liked the "heh kor bak", it was really fragrant with the right amount of crispiness. It's actually deep fried mantis shrimp cooked with sweet and sour sauce, with ample onions to bring out the flavour. Served on a bed of lettuce, this had to be one of my favourite chinese cuisine dishes. The serving size was enough for at least 3 diners, coupled with the other good dishes here, it does satisfy.
