Pho Hua was my first try at Vietnamese food.

The walls are painted with vietnamese culture in mind. Looked lovely smile

The vietnamese noodle is the BEST there is, aside from the beef noodle. The beef noodle is heavenly, and the soup is just nice , tasty with no beefy smell. The beef slices are fresh! I love it! The spring roll and noodles are tossed together for a good mix, then you pour the small bowl of sauce (at the side) into it. I love it too! healthy tasting, crispy (raw vege like tauge) and "syiok". The meat pieces are tender to bite and don't cause me any toothache.

truly a Gem Smile Jun 17, 2012

Gem restaurant is a place that was there 10 years ago when I was still a school kid... smile I passed it on my way to school every single day.

The interior is well decorated, Indian flavours with 3D pictures.

The table was set, with 4 heavy cups on the table.

Crab soup, definitely a must try. Tasty soup with 1/4 a crab.

Appetizer, chicken ball/ drummet. Was awesome. Non spicy as well.

Chicken and lamb. The fried mushroom is lovely(I don't know the name), and even non mushroom lovers might find it delightful!

Abundance of food. The naan there, when taken while hot/ warm, is heavenly. Reasonably priced as well.

This, I remember. Its called Kulfi, its a type of Indian ice cream made of coconut shavings (not just milk). Seriously yummy, a MUST TRY eventhough that portion cost RM9.90. smile

Indian food is never cheap. So if you want to eat, eat at a good place like this lol But be warned...Things that they say are "not spicy" might just cause you to tear like crazy!!

Korean BBQ steamboat Smile Jun 09, 2012

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | BBQ

I've never been a big fan of steamboat myself, because it's a lot of work (boiling soup), and sometimes food seems bland!

Korean BBQ Steamboat @IOI however was to my liking. The special thing is that the meat is not marinated, and hence the original taste is preserved. You can choose whether to "fry" it or to "boil" it steamboat style in soup.

Try it with the special sauce, add lime and garlic to it. Its awesome. I left out the chilis as I'm not a spicy food lover. The mountain of cabbage you see is to be dunked in the soup, it really makes the soup sweeter smile

If you come before 5pm on weekdays and if you're a student, inquire about student sets. A family set (like this, there are many choices) comes with 20% discount with your student card lol.

Many people might not know this, but I'm actually a Japanese food enthusiast. Yes, including the raw sushi, minus the wasabi tongue

Today, let me introduce you to a Japanese buffet which you can get for <RM50, which is a steal, in my humble opinion. Maiu is a branch from the original Damansara outlet.
place is packed!!

place is packed!!

My friend and I came at 6pm on the dot, and was the first. We reached early because we did not make a reservation. As you can see, by 6.30pm 7pm -ish, the place was fully packed! Therefore, do make a reservation if you wanna go, especially in a group...
Wall deco

Wall deco

The interior design, with bottles of sake displayed on the wall. The menu has a variety of stuff, but if I'm not mistaken sake has to be ordered separately.
sashimi!!

sashimi!!

We got down to ordering stuff, and apart from the green tea, sashimi was definitely on the list. Unlike some places I've been to, sashimi is unlimited, and they have a selection of salmon (my fav!), tuna, octopus etc. The sashimi was fresh and delicious, and I kept ordering more tongue
fried tempura

fried tempura

Kakiage(if I'm not mistaken, thats what fried stuff is called). Or is it tempura Nontheless, a variety of fried vegetable with the accompanying sauce. Crispy, tasty.
sushi!

sushi!

Assorted sushi! California roll etc. The sushi roll was just nice, each constituting a bite that triggers the happiness sensors. Ah sushi heaven~
handrolls and fried tofu

handrolls and fried tofu

Temaki (handrolls), and fried tofu. The fried tofu is super delicious. They even have fillings in the middle of the tofu, which was soft inside and crispy outside. You should also try ordering their fried soft shell crab, which was also awesome!
wasabi and green tea ice cream

wasabi and green tea ice cream

Green tea and wasabi ice cream. I warn you, the wasabi ice-cream tastes just like wasabi!! minus the stingy sensation that saturates your nose. But it has the wasabi aftertaste. So if you like wasabi (and even if you don't), you should try it at least once...
double chocolate happiness

double chocolate happiness

As for the traditional ones, chocolate ice cream is also available to please your ice-cream cravings. Again, ice- cream is unlimited. You just have to keep on ordering lol

overall bill was around RM44/pax or so after tax, which is pretty reasonable given the quality. If you're a fan of jap buffets, its worth a try. It may not have as many choices as jogoya etc, but the quality of the food is equal, if not better.

Recommended Dish(es):  fried soft shell crab maki, fried tofu

Spending per head: Approximately RM44(晚餐)

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Dim sum

Been to New Shanghai twice for breakfast now, and both times, the place was so packed that I had to sit at the bar counter like tall chairs and the second at a small table.

Nonetheless, this place is definitely worth a mention in my humble opinion.
Nostalgic

Nostalgic

Starting of with the interior of the place, they invoke an old-school like style nostalgia feeling.
Busy bees

Busy bees

Multiple hardworking chef were working like busy bees behind the cashiers counter, refilling the fried dimsum and making more as the minutes passed and customers continued to come in droves

.

The lighting.
We took the breakfast set, which was RM10(before tax) including tea or coffee, a fried dimsum and a steamed dimsum.
Tea. Satisfactory

Tea. Satisfactory

The jasmine green tea was out of stock sad, so my brother and I decided to try the chinese green tea and another variant of tea. both came in tea bags, but the taste was satisfactory.smile
Fried dimsum

Fried dimsum

The fried dimsum. Took some fried mango piece and a yam piece with fillings. Pricing around RM3.80/piece if bought separately. Was pretty surprised by the quality. It was good, delicious even! Just wish serving size was a little bigger though. (Ah , the common grouse for KL priced food).
Steamed siew mai

Steamed siew mai

Steamed dimsum, freshly made.Yummy. RM8.80 if ordered separately.
Har Gao

Har Gao

Prawns were succulent and juicy. Worth the trip here I reckon.

Display of rows of tea.
One thing that is worth a mention is that this place is pork free. I believe they are trying to apply for a halal certificate, and with their standards, they probably should have no problems.

Verdict: RM10 for a breakfast deal in the heart of KL can be considered reasonable, with good quality food and a nice ambiance.
