Spotting snails on the menu, I had to have some especially when these are Grilled "Bacon" Wrapped Snails! The menu didn't say how many snails there were in one serving, but we counted about 11 snails in the plate.

At a price of RM 17, we realized these were cheaper than usual. Taste-wise, I found these quite delightful. The escargots were cooked just nice, springy instead of rubbery, and the bacon bits were nicely crispy around the edges. The accompanying garlic parsley sauce was also really flavourful and rich. However, the rest of them did think that this dish was a bit too salty for their liking. I suspect it was because of the bacon, but I had no problems with it at all. =D

One tapas seemed too little for 4 hungry mouths, so we also ordered a serving of their Burnt Cauliflower (RM 13) off their sides menu to share.

The name sounds weird (after all since when does any food sound good burnt?), but trust me when I say this burnt taste actually turns normal cauliflower into something more special! The cauliflower was cooked till tender yet still juicy, but contained a slight smoky flavour due to the charred bits. When eaten together with the light-tasting yogurt, it turned out to be a great combination. This snack ended up tasting just perfect. For once, I had no trouble with my vegetables. =P

Steak Cry Aug 15, 2012   (Related Review)

Having been told the steaks were very good at Ayer's Rock, it was one of our must-haves for the night. Their menu does have pricier cuts like Wagyu beef, but we settled on the Grain-fed Ribeye (RM 60, 280g).

I suppose we went in with rather high expectations seeing as it was recommended by my friend and the crowd that night. However, we weren't blown away by the ribeye. The quality of the cut used was adequate, but not phenomenal especially for the slightly higher price we were paying. We also found it was slightly lacking in flavour and richness.

Although it was advertised as 280grams, I didn't feel it was justified. The potato salad it was served with had too much mayonnaise for it to be enjoyed, and the accompanying cream sauce, thin and runny, did not enhance the natural taste of the beef at all.

Great Lamb Burger! Smile Aug 15, 2012   (Related Review)

On one of our most recent visits, we decided to give the Lamb Burger a try, mostly because we'd heard from a friend that it was one of the most awesome lamb burgers in town - and we have to say we wholeheartedly agree! The lamb patty was lightly charred on the outside, with a mildly smoky grilled flavour and the patty had the right texture, moist and well-seasoned. The buns were buttery enough, and side salad and fries, crispy and satisfying, were also done to perfection. The only complain that I would have was that the patty didn't hold together so well, and would come apart quite easily.

Being greedy, we had to spend another RM7 on Spicy Wedges! We regretted it later though, because we felt these were quite normal and forgettable, and not spicy at all like what its name suggests. The potato was also cut too thickly, making it difficult to eat. Something that is readily available at any other Western joint or even in your own kitchen.

French Toast? Smile Aug 15, 2012   (Related Review)

That day, we weren't in the mood for such a heavy late lunch, but we were very happy to give their French Toast with Bacon & Maple Syrup (RM 18) a go! The first time I heard of this, I couldn't believe my eyes (or ears). I've never associated bacon and french toast together, and the thought of it was just strange to me. Though, now it seems to be quite a norm in a lot of popular breakfast places.
Just Okay

Just Okay

The French toast was lightly dusted with icing sugar and was quite fluffy. The bacon could have been crispier, but was salty enough to give an interesting balance of flavours to the sharp sweetness of the maple syrup. Not recommended if you're not so adventurous with your food. tongue This also unfortunately came out a little less hotter than we would have liked though, not piping hot.

Yum yum dim sum! Smile Aug 15, 2012   (Related Review)

Zuan Yuan is a halal restaurant, which means traditionally pork-filled dim sum like siew mai are pork-free, but we felt the ones here at Zuan Yuan were good enough, so much so that we barely missed the pork at all. The dim sum dumpling is full of well-flavoured meat and prawn, and the sprinkling of roe atop gave a nice unique taste. The prawn used was also really fresh; we could tell by the fresh sweetness of the dumpling.

Siew mai might be the normal crowd favourite, but here at Zuan Yuan it's definitely worth giving the Steamed Teo Chew Siew Mai (潮式蒸燒賣) a try too! I thought this was a unique twist to dim sum as we could taste strong spices in it, probably five spice powder. It certainly brings out the flavour of the meat more! A must try.
