slurpalicious ramen... Smile Aug 07, 2014
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Japanese | Restaurant | Ramen/Udon/Soba

Bari-Uma serves some great authentic slurpalicious ramen. Richly flavoured tonkotsu shoyu soup which is thick & creamy. Followed by the home-made noodles which was consistent throughout with a nice bite to it. Pair that with some lovely flame grilled charred pork slices. Tender with a smoky flavour. A real treat.
They also have dumplings (gyoza) either boiled or fried. Crispy with adequate filling. We had the spicy version which was a good snack. Simple offerings but done right.
Service was quick & attentive. Layout clean & inviting. Will definitely return to try out the spicy ramen.

lost its luster... Cry Aug 07, 2014

This place is a used to be a great restaurant. Has been around for close to 18 years now. Sadly though they have lost their luster. Service is simply appalling. Dishes come out sporadically so it is awkward in the table as to eat or wait. Example last night 1 dish came while 4 others showed up 20 minutes later and the last came 30 minutes after the 1st. This was after multiple complaints to the staff on where the last meal is. Then came desserts which came 30 minutes after ordering. Best part the place isn't even packed. It just doesn't make sense for an establishment that has been around for so long. The service staff could not be bothered and we had to wave them down multiple times to request where are the meals. No explanation or apologies. When we questioned during payment they even said that the kitchen is fully staffed and they are not busy. Dumbfounded.
Highly disappointing as this is a great hangout spot. Food is still good although portions have reduced over the years. However whenever service is below par the whole experience just drops. Will not be returning.

yummy Thai food... Smile Aug 07, 2014

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Seafood

Been here a couple of times & they never disappoint. Good variety of Thai dishes made with fresh ingredients. Slightly on the pricey side but you get what you pay for. Make sure you start off with their tom yam. Spicy with chock-full of seafood goodies. Other notable mentions would be the chilli lime or salted egg squid, glass noodle salad, thai style siakap & steamed lala. Heard their other seafood dishes are just as good. Don't forget to wash it all down with their umbra juice. Very fresh & tasty. Great cure for the spice.
The overall atmosphere is average. Mostly outdoor wooden seating with plants all around. Cosy but a bit dark & mosquitoes might be a problem at times. Service is average. Food does come out pretty quick. Do note it can get busy during prime hours. Overall a decent place for some good Thai food.

awesome desserts... Smile Aug 07, 2014

Miam Miam is a French Japanese Artisanal Cafe that has a branch in Penang & now 1 Utama in Petaling Jaya. Their claim to fame is their french toast which takes up to 20 minutes to prepare or when busy as long as 2 hours! The decor is a mix of hipster & industrial with metal chairs, leather sofas & cutesy cutlery holder with table numbers. Rather cramped though.
We shared a couple of desserts here which is the famous french toast & vanilla soufflé. Both took at least 30 minutes to arrive but it was well worth the wait. The french toast was fluffy & buttery served with plenty of maple syrup & house-made whipped cream. Am drooling just thinking about it. The soufflé's was good as well. Warm, creamy & not too sweet. For drinks their coffee wasn't all that bad & the peanut butter milkshake was rich with lovely bites of peanut.
Service is attentive & friendly. Will definitely return to try out more desserts and perhaps have a full meal. The menu is pretty interesting. Will wait for the hype to end though so there isn't any wait time.

good hangout cafe... OK Aug 07, 2014

For hanging out this place is spot on. Relaxed ambiance with a vintage chic sorta layout. Mismatched tables & chairs, stucco walls, dim lighting, artsy chalky menu board & odd mix of decorative items all around. Very inviting. Service is so so. Could be faster & more attentive.
Drinks are good with an interesting twists. Try the Iced Café Latte with Gula Melaka, root beer float, mango coke, Iced Mint Chocolate & Shahi (mint tea). Food wise very homely. Menu isn't that extensive but a good variety. Pastas to sandwiches to breakfast goodies. Good choices would be the beef bamia, baked eggs, spaghetti carbonara & eggs Benedict.
The top draw would be the desserts served up by Souka Bake Shop located just next door. They have a great variety of desserts ranging from cheesecakes to pies to pastries. Some notable ones being the Nutella cheesecake, peanut butter pie, bannofee pie, carrot cake & red velvet. Not to be missed!
Overall a decent place & will return to try out a few more dishes especially the desserts.
