Dim Sum OK May 27, 2013   (Related Review)

Categories : Western variety | Café | Restaurant | Noodles | Dim sum | Nasi Lemak

I and another friend of mine were looking for breakfast to eat around Setapak area around 11am. Finally we chose to eat dim-sum at here as the price is not very expensive. They only serve dim-sum from 10pm to 12pm. The same experience we face again at here. The staffs here are very inefficient even that there are not many customers.

We two people ordered 2 baskets of Shrimp Dumplings (RM4.50+). It's a must order food for dim-sum. This is not bad as the shrimps is fresh enough.

We also ordered another must-order dim-sum, Siew Mai (RM 3.80+). The taste is normal but the crab roe above the it is too less. And the we also tried a new dim-sum, Black Pepper Siew Mai (RM 3.80+). The taste is still acceptable, the taste of black pepper is not too strong and cover the taste of Siew Mai.

The cabbage rolls (RM 3.80+) is quite nice too. The cabbage is steamed until soft enough. I quite like this dish. The soup is all soaked into the cabbages. We also order a ShangHai Pan Fried Dumplings (RM 4.80+). The taste is ok, but the skin of the dumplings is too thick, and they do not provide us the ginger vinegar, instead they put the vinegar directly inside the dumplings which I think is a factor that affect the texture of the skins of dumplings.

We also ordered some fried dim-sum. We ordered a Fried Shrimps Salad Dumplings(RM 5.00+). The skin and batter is too thick. Not really nice. The Fried Taro Dumplings (RM 4.00+) is very very bad. I think they pre-fried it and re-fry and customers order it. So the yam is totally over fried until too dry. Same for the Fried Spring Rolls (RM 3.50+).

As a conclusion, if you are going for dim-sum at here, DO NOT order fried dim-sum.

Chicken Maryland OK May 27, 2013

Categories : Western variety | Café | Restaurant | Noodles | Dim sum | Nasi Lemak

I went there for brunch around 12pm. The staff handed us the menu and went away. After I decided what to order and I pressed the button to call the staff for a few times yet nobody comes to serve us. I can't understand what they are busying with since there is only a few customers there that time.

I ordered a Chicken Maryland (RM15.80+). They took quite a long time to serve the food too. The portion of the food is quite big, one plate is enough for me this big-eater to feel full. The portion of the wedges is very big. The chicken is fried until nice enough that the chicken is crispy outside and very tender inside. However the other 2 side dishes really disappointed me. For the coleslaw, I only eat very little because the vegetable is not fresh at all and has stink smell. The corn is just normal but the cauliflower and broccoli is overcooked.

8 Flavors Xiao Long Bao Smile May 27, 2013

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

It's an open kitchen concept Chinese restaurant. We have to take number and wait to be called. I waited for around half an hour for my turn. I wonder why there are so many people are so patient to wait.

The signature dish of this restaurant is the 8 Flavors Xiao Long Bao (Original, Ginseng, Foie Gras, Black Truffle, Cheesy, Crab Roe, Garlic, Sze Chuan). I did search online about it before I tried it. It has quite a high rating. So I decided to give it a try. I and another 3 of my family members ordered 4 baskets of 8 Flavors Xiao Long Bao (each RM25.80++) and another 2 main course to be shared among.

They serve food very fast. I did search online that we should eat the Xiao Long Bao according to specific order to achieve the optimal experience, but I couldn't remember the order, so I eat what I like first.

Cheesy - It's the first one that I ate as I am a cheese lover. The taste of the soup is quite similar to the original one until you bite the middle part of the Xiao Long Bao, the you can taste the MELTED CHEESE!

Original - Have not much to comment about the taste, just one word "NICE"

Crab Roe - This is my another favorite flavors. The taste is very nice too, but I can't describe the taste with words.

Foie Gras - The taste is just as nice as the crab roe, but I can't really taste the Foir Gras inside.

Ginseng - Ginseng flavor Xiao Long Bao is quite nice. The taste is not very strong. It's quite suitable for those who don't like strong taste persons.

Black Truffle - The taste of the truffle is quite strong that I can immediately recognize it in one bite.

Garlic - The taste of garlic has overwhelmed the taste of the Xiao Long Bao, but this is quite subjective as I don't like garlic.

Sze Chuan - I tried this lastly, the smell is really strong which is not really acceptable by me. It's quite spicy and it tastes like some kind of perfume ( Sorry it's just my own opinion).

The Yang Zhou Fried Rice (RM16.80++) is very nice. I can't really explain why it is nice. Maybe the chef controls the fire very well.

La Mian with Braise Pork Belly (RM19.80++) is nice too. I think the soup is cooked with pork bone for very long as it is quite rich. The texture of the noodle is not bad too. It's freshly made by chef on the spot.

Tea for each person is RM2++.

We can watch the chef cooking and making the noodles through the glass. It's kind of enjoyment.

My friends brought me to this restaurant and strongly recommended me to try out their pasta because this is a eat-all-you-can concept restaurant(Applicable to pasta and salad bar)(Monday - Saturday 11.30am - 3pm only). It's not buffet concept though, because we can only order another plate if we finish the one that we ordered. So all the food served are still hot.

When we reached there, there were a lot of people dining there, and the staffs have no time to serve us immediately. We have options to eat either indoor or outdoor, yet we chose to eat indoor because of the hot weather outside. The environment here is very nice with dim light.

There are 8 choices of pasta to choose from. Besides that, they also serve other food like fried rice, chicken chop, fish and chips and etc.

Menu

I first ordered a Pasta Vongolle. This set comes with refillable iced lemon tea, unlimited soup, garlic bread and caesar salad. While waiting for the food to be served, I get some soup and garlic bread from the salad bar first. The soup of the day is mushroom soup, the taste of the soup is just normal. The garlic bread is baked till crispy, the texture is more like eating biscuit instead of bread. There are only a few clams and some mushroom inside the pasta, yet the taste is quite nice.

When I was eating halfway, the staff serves me a plate of Creamy Pesto with Fish which I didn't order. I think it's a wrong order from other customer. I accept it anyway since I almost finish mine. The taste is not bad but the sauce is too creamy and thick which might make me feel full easily. The fish is very nice that they grilled until the outer layer to be crispy.

After I finished it, I order a Cajun Garlic Shrimp. I think this is the best among all the pasta that I ordered, but it only comes with 3 shrimps. However I can understand that it's very reasonable for the price. After I finished this, I am almost 70% full already.

Then I decided to order a last plate, I ordered a Chicken Carbonara. The taste of this pasta is very nice too. Inside got some grilled chicken cubes and mushroom.

After eating, they also serve us a scoop of ice-cream. This ice-cream isn't very nice though. Overall, the taste of the pasta is very nice even though the ingredients isn't very much but it's totally understood that the price for the food is more than enough. It's strongly recommended for big eater to eat there."

Categories : Taiwanese | Stall / Warung | Group/Family dining

This stall is located at the 3rd floor of Berjaya Times Square. The whole small street is selling mostly Taiwan food. It can be found easily as the street is not too big. The boss is very generous and friendly. He let us to taste the sample of quite many flavour. He recommended us a few types of waffle. I ordered a Tuna Cheese Waffle, Marshmallow Chocolate Waffle and a Frozen Strawberry Yoghurt Waffle. The waffle are all freshly made on the spot but not those manufactured waffle. The waffle is quite different with what I eat normally. Its outer layer is more crispy.
Tuna Cheese

Tuna Cheese

The tuna cheese one is very nice, after putting on all the ingredients, they put half slice of cheese and bake in oven for awhile to let the cheese to melt. Then they squeeze some mayo sauce on it to enhance the taste of tuna.
Marshmallow Chocolate

Marshmallow Chocolate

The marshmallow chocolate one is quite nice too, it's quite suitable for people who like sweet food. The chocolate won't be too sweet and the marshmallows are semi-melted, very nice combination. The boss told us that the chocolate are cooked by themselves one.
Frozen Strawberry Yoghurt

Frozen Strawberry Yoghurt

The frozen strawberry yoghurt waffle has a little bit sour taste, it's quite suitable for sour food lover. The waffle of this flavour is also different from the other 2. The waffle each only costs RM5.50, won't be very expensive. Worth to try it.
