We decide to have a quick bite in the shopping mall before leaving town. The restaurant is quite open and have comfy sofa seats.
Menu

Menu

The menu is quite wide. There is even a vegetarian section.

3 Cheeses Spinach Lasagne (RM 17.80++)
Vegetarian classic lasagne. Enjoy hearty layers of fresh spinach, chopped mushrooms with fresh tomato blend, enveloped in white cream sauce, topped with mozzarella and parmesan cheese.
This is served quite fast and hot too. Looks not bad.

Mushroom Soup (RM7.50++)
A favourite Classic
A bit too watery.

Prawn Macaroni with Cheese (RM 17.50++)
Macaroni pasta with prawns and mushrooms topped with loads of mozzarella cheese and grilled till melted.
Quite tasty and not too creamy too.

Mozzarella Baked Fish (RM 19.50++)
Wholesome baked dory fish fillet enveloped in luxurious mozzarella cheese, garnished with cherry tomatoes. Served with roasted vegetable and side serve of golden browned potato cutlets.

Turkey Shank (RM 38.00++)
lip-smackingly tender turkey shank stewed and oven-crisped to perfection. Served with a side of mash potato, roasted vegetable and lavished with smoky BBQ sauce.
The meat is a bit too dry but flavourful. The vegetables are a bit overcooked.

We also received a cup of Flat White as one of us has the tourist card given at the information counter.
The staffs are quite friendly and even asked if we have a certain credit card so that we could enjoy a free slice of cheese cake. Great service.

Creme Burlee Cheesecake (RM7.50++)
I select the Creme Burlee Cheesecake which is thick and creamy, as well as, not too sweet in taste.

Recommended Dish(es):  Prawn Macaroni with Cheese

We are attracted by its promotion of Kid eat for free on Sunday and decide to have a bite.
Menu

Menu

Interestingly there is a vegetarian section for its menu. The service is different from what I used to. The staff only takes order on its drink. Water is chargeable at RM1++. For iced water, a glass of ice cubes is provided where one help yourself to the hotwater tap. Food is ordered through the ipad at the edge of the table.

Sakae Chawanmushi 荣茶碗蒸 (RM3.90++)
steamed egg with vegetarian shark's fin, chicken, ginkgo, crabstick & mushroom.
Tastes quite smooth.

Lobster Salad 龙虾沙拉 (RM 12.90++)
lobster salad with vegetables
It looks simple but tastes great with the sesame dressing, giving a crunchy and creamy texture.

Seafood Pizza 海鲜比萨 (RM18.90++)
mini tempura prawn, crabstick, shitake mushroom, green pepper, onion, mozzarella cheese & spicy mayonnaise.
It tastes like toppings on supermarket type of frozen pizza base with sweet chilli sauce and mayonnaise. Interesting combination.

The free kid's meal consists of Ebiko (Prawn Roe) sushi, Tamago (Egg Roll) sushi, Inari (Sweet Bean Curd Skin) sushi, Futomaki and Fish cakes. Quite cute looking.
From the vegetarian menu,

Yasai Kakiage 野菜丝夭妇罗 (RM 3.90++)
Assorted shredded vegetables
We like it so much that we order 2 of this.

Kinoko Cha Soba 抹荼荞麦面 (RM 11.90++)
green tea noodles with assorted Japanese mushroom
It comes in a choice of udon or soba. Tastes quite light.

Chuka Mekabu 风味海藻 (RM 5.99++)
Seasoned mekabu seaweed
Feel that the serving is a bit too little.

Overall the food is not bad. Staff is friendly and informs us of current promotion.

Packed and crowded place OK Jun 17, 2014

Categories : Western variety | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

The place is located in one end of the shopping mall. There is both indoor and outdoor dine in area. There is 2 queues at the door, one for dine in and another for takeaway.

Although there is quite of mille crepes available, but about half of the mille crepes listed in the menu are not available. Besides its well known mille crepes, it also offers drinks and main courses.

The place is quite beautifully decorated in whites and blues.

White Peony Lemon Tea (RM9.50/ Pot)
The tea is served in a pot with serving for 2. The tea is quite light and hot water is refillable.

Lychee Ice Green Tea (RM6.80)
A refreshing drink with lychee and red wolf berries in it.

Malacca Shake (RM8.50)
Although it is made of gula melaka (brown sugar), it tastes thick and not very sweet.

Green Tea Mille Crepe (RM9.90/ Slice)
I do not quite like its green tea taste as I feel that the green taste is a bit off in taste. It feel a bit powdery to me.

Banana Chocolate Mille Crepe (RM9.90/ Slice)
This one tastes slightly better as it has the soft banana which blends better. But tastes quite jelat without the banana.

Chocolate Rum Mille Crepe (RM9.90/ Slice)
The cake comes highly recommedation by the staff as it is the cake of the month. It is alcoholic as the raisins are soaked in rum. It gives the cake an exciting feel and less jelat in taste too.

Total Bill is RM54.50.
As the cafe is packed, it is quite difficult to get the attention of the staffs. Overall I feel that the standard of the mille crepe cakes have dropped over the years. The cakes do not taste as good as they used to be.

Wide variety Smile Jun 19, 2014

The restaurant is located at one end of a row of shophouses, away from the main street. The restaurant is considered one of the best vegetarian restaurants in town. It is so popular that reservation is recommended especially during the weekend. One may need to queue even after 9pm during weekend.

The restaurant is simple in decoration. The table near the counter has packets of dried food for sale.

Lily Flower Tea 百合 (RM 10.00/ pot for 1 - 6 paxs)
The tea is served in a pot and is refillable. Very full bodied and fruity taste. Tastes naturally sweet too.

Kelp Bud Soup (Spirulina) 活力养生海带芽汤 (RM12.00/ Small)
The soup has a light and flavourful taste.

Seafood Salad 海鲜沙拉 (RM15.00)
Served with salad cream, it tastes crunchy and crispy.

Vege-KFC 炸鸡块 (RM 5.80)
It is quite a surprise hit for everyone. Very crispy.

Spicy Szechuen Hedgehog Mushroom 宫保猴头菇 (RM15.00)
It does not taste like mushroom in the first bite.

Steam Lady's Finger Top with Ginger & Oyster Sauce 姜丝蚝油扒 (RM 10.00)
My favourite dish of the meal. The lady's finger is well cooked and does not taste jelat.

Man Yuen Oyster Omelette 满缘蚝煎 (RM 10.00)
It really tastes like the real thing. Even the chilli paste is nice and tangy.

Curry 3-in-1 咖喱3合1 (RM15.00/ Small)
Fish, Chicken & Mutton
Great thick and spicy curry.

Overall the dishes are very nice for a vegetarian restaurant.

The restaurant is located in the popular Jonker street area. The restaurant looks old and rundown, with a small open kitchen in front. One needs to pass through the kitchen to reach the dine in area.

The dine in area is quite small and decorated in a way that has been stopped in the past. Pictures of VIP decorated the walls.
Menu

Menu

The menu of the day is handwritten in Chinese on the whiteboard. Most will order through the staff's recommendation with no menu shown.
Vegetables of the day

Vegetables of the day

Vegetables and seafoods are displayed on the counter to show what is freshly available.

On the table, there is some condiments such as vinegar, soya sauce, pepper, chilli paste and fermented bean sauce. There is also a serving of peanuts which is chargeable at RM2.50. In traditional teochew style, most will use fermented bean sauce in place of soya sauce.

The choices of drink is limited here from hot tea, to soft drinks (lemon tea, cola), to local beers. Father selects a bottle of Royal Stout which costs RM16.

Oyster Noodles 蚝面 (RM 19)
Just add a bit of vinegar, which enhances the taste greatly. The dish comes highly recommended and can be found in every table.

Vegetables 时菜(各类青菜) (RM 16)
Based on the display of vegetables, Mom has selected this vegetable as it looks quite interesting and we have never had this before. It has a crunchy texture.

Roasted Suckling Piglet 金牌烧乳猪 (RM 230)
The skin is very crispy and goes quite well with the sweet brown sauce. However the size of the dish looks a bit small for a complete piglet. There is no crispy ears. sad

Steamed Fish 清蒸斗昌 (RM 46)
Through the recommedations of fish, father decides on this type of Patin Fish. It is steamed in Teochew style with pickled vegetables, sliced mushroom, shredded ginger, and garnished with sliced chilli and cilantro.

Yam Paste 潮洲芋泥 (RM 22)
We end the meal the well known Teochew style dessert Yam Paste (Orh-Nee), which is also a dish that can be found in every table. The yam paste is very smooth in texture and does not taste too sweet. Topping the paste with cooked fresh gingko nuts (Mom said that she could taste that it is not canned version) and pumpkin pieces.

Overall the food is not bad. However I prefer the prices to be listed when ordering. I dislike having hidden costs such as peanut (RM2.50) and wet tissue (RM1.60 for 4 pieces) which is traditionally found in Chinese restaurant. Overall the staffs are friendly and cutlery are changed from time to time.
