The restaurant is very well known at Batu Caves area. This restaurant has a policy where one can only place 1 order at per table (which means no reordering of food if one find that the ordered food is not enough).

The restaurant only operates from 8.30am to 3.30pm daily and is closed for 2 days per month. The restaurant is located at the end of a row of shophouses. It is open-air with simple looking chairs and tables around.

The restaurant is packed when we arrived. There is a long list of people waiting for tables. As most of the tables available are for small groups and we are in a big group of 7, we end up waiting about an hour for a table.

We are given a number tag (which will be given to the staff when our order is taken), when a table is available for us. There is no menu given and we could only order based on the staff's recommendation, which is basically what most tables are having.

Although the weather is extremely hot, we have Hot Tea (RM11.50+) with ice cubes to keep cool as that is what most tables are having.

Stir Fried Sweet Leaves (RM18+)
A simple vegetable dish. We feel the vegetable used here is a bit old, based on the color of the vegetable. Quite disappointing.

滑蛋河 Cantonese Style Hor Fun (RM18+)
Single serving in vegetarian style with no garlic, onion and spring onion. Quite smooth and rich in texture.

Porridge (RM15.40+)
It is served with sliced fish and century egg in it. The porridge is very smooth and creamy in texture, while the fish is very fresh and smooth too.

Pork Meat Bee Hoon (RM21.20+)
It is a very simple and traditional dish of stir fried stewed pork belly with bee hoon. The pork belly is quite tender and does not taste jelat.

Fried Pork Meat (RM29+)
It is deep fried pork belly marinated in red fermented beancurd. I feel the version here is not very good as it lack of crispiness outside. Another point is that I would prefer it to be served with the porridge, instead of after finishing al the other dishes. The porridge would be a good balance to the strong taste of the fermented beancurd taste in the pork.

River Prawn Hor Fun (RM120.85+)
It is served with 3 pieces of the famed giant sized River Prawns, which each of us get half piece each.

The prawn is quite huge in size, filled with lots of roe in the shell. The gravy is rich and luscious, while the noodle flows smoothly down the throat.

Besides these dishes, the restaurant also offers a variety of swiss rolls and pastries over its counter.

Overall the food is not bad, but I feel that it is quite expensive to dine in here. One would think twice of making a trip all the way to this ula ula place, suffers a long waiting time and follows by a delicious in a hot and humid place.

Last Dinner of the year OK Jan 29, 2015

As we spend the night in the area for countdown, we decide to have dinner in this chinese restaurant. It looks quite grand from outside. The first level is for walk-in customers, while the upper level is for private kitchen. The restaurant looks quite grand with personal lifts within the restaurant.

The 7 of us start the meal with Chrysanthuem Pu Er 菊普 ($3++/pax) tea for all. I order a number of dishes to accompany the plain rice 丝苗白饭 ($2++/ bowl).

Barbeque Triple Combo 烧味三宝拼 (RM30.80++/Small)
Roasted Crispy Pork (Siu Yok), Barbeque Pork (Char Siu) and Roasted Duck.
The meat is served with plum sauce, mustard sauce and chilli sauce. The meats are well charred and tastes juicy and yummy.

Jelly Fish Thai Style 泰式海蜇 (RM11.80++)
It tastes crunchy but a bit bland in taste.

Spicy Pickled Black & White Fungus 凉拌双耳 (RM6.80++)
It does not taste spicy but rather strong in a vinegar taste.

Double Steamed "Tian Ma" Fish Head Soup 天麻鱼头汤 (RM14.80++/ bowl)
This soup is full of flavours. The fish is so tender that one can feel the bones melt in the mouth.

Double Boiled Soup of the Day 时日炖汤 (RM14.80++/bowl)
The soup of the day is Lotus root with pork rib soup. It tastes full bodied and flavourful.

Pan-fried Sliced Fish with Ginger & Spring Onion 姜葱鱼片 (RM30.80++/small)
The sliced fish looks more like deep fried than pan-fried.

Hakka Steamed Chicken 客家蒸鹽鸡 (RM30.80++/ half serving)
I am surprised at its huge serving. The chicken is quite tender and flavourful.

Stir-fried Mixed Vegetables with Macadamia Nuts 雯果彩碟 (RM18.80++/small)
This is the only dish in the restaurant which can be considered vegetarian according to the staff. It gives a nutty and crunchy texture.

Stir-fried Vegetables with Salted Eggs & Century Eggs 金银蛋浸时菜 (RM16.80++/small)
I am a bit disappointed with this dish as I could find the salted egg yolk in it. The taste is also a bit too bland.

We end the meal with desserts such as Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo 杨䃽甘露 (RM8.80++/glass), Glutinous Dumplings with Red Bean Paste 红豆沙汤丸 (RM7.80++/bowl), Teochew Sweet Yam Paste 潮州芋泥羮 (RM6.80++/bowl) and Almond Tea 手磨杏仁蛋白茶 (RM8.80++/bowl). But the desserts fail badly. The Chilled Mango Sago with Pomelo 杨䃽甘露 is served in glass, looking rather white, instead of the usual bright yellow in color. Although there is mango taste, but it is rather faint and I could not taste any pomelo in it.

The Glutinous Dumplings with Red Bean Paste 红豆沙汤丸 fairs slighlty better. The dumplings seems to be the supermarket pack type, based on the texture and the red paste is not quite smooth.

The Teochew Sweet Yam Paste 潮州芋泥羮 is worst that I have ever had before. It is too watery to be considered paste. It looks more like drinkable type than the oily smooth paste that one usually found in restaurants. It kinds of reminds one of the instant powder type with its taste. The Almond Tea 手磨杏仁蛋白茶 also tastes similar to the instant powder type, but it is not as watery as the yam paste. It is more the type that one usually found in Hong Kong style cha chaan teng cafes.

Overall there is hits and misses in this restaurant. Best just have the main dishes and go other place for desserts. The desserts are simply a waste of money and stomach space. The service here is not bad, with tea refilled regularly. There is also free wifi been offered here. The place is quite crowded during peak dinner time, so best visit it early.

Brunch OK Jan 26, 2015

This year the family decides the year with new year shopping at the Isetan in KLCC as it has special promotion going on. As we are early, we decide to stop for breakfast at the cafe before shopping. The cafe is a self-service style with dining in area. The cafe offers a number of breakfast set meals.

I decide on the breakfast set C which costs RM10.80nett. It consists of a chicken pie which comes with a choice of coffee, tea or a small cup of cappuccino.

The chicken pie is served warm with some greens in lemony dressing on the side. The crust is flaky with peppery and chucky filling.

The cappuccino looks nice but tastes abit bland.

Overall the food is not bad and quite filling. The place is not crowded and is quite relaxing.

Nice place but poor Service OK Jun 11, 2014

The first thing that caught our eyes when we reach the place is the red coloured train in front of the restaurant. So cute great for photo taking which we spend quite sometimes doing it.

Inside the restaurant, we are met with a telephone booth at the door with a real working phone in it. Another photo taking session.

The restaurant has huge dine in area. There is even a train where people can dine in.
Menu

Menu

Menu is quite interesting with picture of train.

Bread is served to only those having main courses.

Fresh Chicken & Vegetables Soup (RM8.90)
It tastes a bit too salty for me. I am expecting cream soup and it turns out clear soup.

Grilled Rainbow Trout (RM27.90)
It has been quite awhile since I have a trout as it is quite difficult to find it on menu. The fish is quite boney here but the meat is quite juicy.

Fish & Chips (RM 21.90)

Cajun Salmon & Grilled Chicken Fillet (RM 33.90)
The sauce is too strong in flavour and covers the natural flavours of the meats.

V.S. Escargots (1/2 Dozen) (RM15.90)
Very flavourful with lots of garlic in it. Love it.

Chocolate Cake (RM7.90)
A bit disappointed as there is no filling inside. Quite plain actually although it looks great.

Tea is served in a pot with teabag.

Overall place looks great, food is not bad, but service sucks high here. We have waited quite awhile to be served even when it is not crowded. We are showed to a small table in the middle of all tables. We have difficulties in getting to that table. Billing is also slow. Long wait to get attention of staffs to refill water.

Categories : Western variety | Sweets/Snack | Bakery / Cake / Kuih

Recently I have ordered 2 orders of birthday cakes from the shop for JJ's birthday. The shop located in a shop in middle of a row of shophouses. Collection is quite fast. The cakes are boxed up with blue ribbons in white boxes. Each cake consists of 25 cupcakes and costs RM90. The cakes are quite cute in looking and tastes not bad.
