Gelatomio Hazelnut Ice cream OK Oct 08, 2012

Hazelnut ice cream

Hazelnut ice cream

While waiting for my friend, I decided to indulge in this new brand of ice cream called Gelatomio. The wonderful colors opposite the glass was quite alluring. To be safe, I went with hazelnut ice cream, hoping for some creaming, rich hazelnut goodness. To my despair, it wasn't as I imagined it to be. It has that 'fake' flavour taste instead of real nuts. Weather or not they use the real nuts, I do not know but it does LOOK authentic. I was also surprised to find tiny bits 'ice' instead of smooth ice cream @_@. I think I would try something else the next time as this is not really what I expected it to be....

Nasi lemak rendang

Hailam chicken chop with black pepper sauce

Since it's the signature dish, I wanted to try the chicken chop with black pepper sauce. It was decent but nothing special about it. I don't see how is it a signature dish. The fries were buttery but the coleslaw was too creamy. The chicken was tasteless if not for the black pepper sauce.

The nasi lemak rendang is also nothing to boast about, one thing I like is they gave a whole egg instead and gave quite alot of ikan bilis. The sambal is not too spicy and the rendang was ok.

Bar.B.Q Plaza @ Setia City Mall OK Oct 03, 2012

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot | BBQ

I was at Setia City Mall the other day to look for my friends for dinner. We decided to visit Bar.B.Q Plaza as I had a hankering for grilled pork.

We had to wait a couples of minutes for a table to be cleaned after the previous customer. The waiter did a good job cleaning the bits of meat sticking to the stove. Once that is done, we happily sat down and proceeded to make our orders.

Since there were 3 of us, we decided to order the family mixed set which consisted of a mixture of pork slices, bacon slices and sirloin slices. We opted to change the chicken slices to pork as previous experience we had the chicken was too thickly sliced and may not cook well.

The meat slices were grilled to perfection by my friend who is an expert in this. The meat were succulent and juicy even though there were no marination done on the meat. Paired with their special sweet brown sauce, which was mixed together with chopped garlic and chilli, the taste was really mouthwatering.
Garlic Rice

Garlic Rice

The highlight of my meal was the bacon slices as they were bacon-ey saltiness. The garlic rice was so-so as I have tasted better. The side of the hot plate also allowed us to boil the finely sliced cabbage as part of our meal.

The entire meal costs us RM86 for the 3 of us including green tea. I have always been a fan of this restaurant since it first opened in 1 Utama, and I will definitely patronize this chain again.

Ayam penyet lunch OK Oct 03, 2012

ikan lele with rice

Looking for something new to eat, we ventured quite far into a deeper side of Kota Damansara. We were brought there by our Malay colleagues because we were challenged to eat something spicy. I was thinking, is ayam penyet spicy? That's when my Malay colleague said, "Wait till you try the sambal here", with a snicker on her face.

I had the ayam penyet with rice (RM7.90 for ayam penyet, add RM1.50 for rice), my friend had the ikan lele (pomfret fish). We were given 2 pieces of fried taufu because they ran out of tempe (soya bean thingie). It was quite dry but it's usual for ayam penyet dishes. So I use the sambal to mix into my rice. It was unexpectedly SPICY. It's one of the spiciest sambal I've ever tried!! But it doesn't numb the tongue and was additive! It goes very well with everything else in the dish as everything else was quite bland. The ayam penyet was so small and not much meat. It'd be tastier if it has more meat... The taufu was quite tasteless as well but goes well with the sambal. I would say the sambal is the hero of the meal. For RM7.90 just for the ayam penyet, I find it on the pricy side, not to mention its SMALL...

Pork noodle @ Ming Tien OK Sep 28, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Food court | Noodles

Came by at Ming Tien for lunch one fine afternoon, as I have a meeting with a client here. After the meeting, I decided to eat around the area as car parks are hard to find in PJ area during lunch hour.

Ming tien was a good choice as it offers many varieties of food even during the day.

I ordered the pork ball noodle, which is known in Cantonese as Sam Kan Chong noodles. Unlike usual pork noodles, it does not have any internal pork organs.

In fact, it it served with some pork sausage and fish paste. I ordered a regular dry mee-bihun which costs RM4.50.

Surprisingly the soup was not exactly MSG laden, as it is cooked with the fish paste and vegetables. The fish paste was quite bouncy and the pork sausage was quite aromatic too.

The noodles have a good balance of soy sauce and dark caramel sauce. As with most yellow noodles in KL today, it has some lye water taste in it, although it is acceptable.
