Looking for something new to eat, we ventured quite far into a deeper side of Kota Damansara. We were brought there by our Malay colleagues because we were challenged to eat something spicy. I was thinking, is ayam penyet spicy? That's when my Malay colleague said, "Wait till you try the sambal here", with a snicker on her face.

I had the ayam penyet with rice (RM7.90 for ayam penyet, add RM1.50 for rice), my friend had the ikan lele (pomfret fish). We were given 2 pieces of fried taufu because they ran out of tempe (soya bean thingie). It was quite dry but it's usual for ayam penyet dishes. So I use the sambal to mix into my rice. It was unexpectedly SPICY. It's one of the spiciest sambal I've ever tried!! But it doesn't numb the tongue and was additive! It goes very well with everything else in the dish as everything else was quite bland. The ayam penyet was so small and not much meat. It'd be tastier if it has more meat... The taufu was quite tasteless as well but goes well with the sambal. I would say the sambal is the hero of the meal. For RM7.90 just for the ayam penyet, I find it on the pricy side, not to mention its SMALL...

Spice rice with beef rendang Smile Oct 01, 2012

Spice rice with beef rendang

Spice rice with beef rendang

Surrounded with so many eateries at The Curve, one is really having a headache which to choose. Since I was going for a massage, yes, to relax my body muscles and such, I went to Ma'cik Biryani. Actually it was my 2nd time there. The food was very memorable but my partner wasn't a fan of biryani so we always opted for something else. Nearly full house during lunch hour, I was lucky to be directed to an empty table. I wanted to order their famous biryani but thought it was gonna be a bit too much. So I went with the spice rice with beef combo.

It took them a while to serve. But it was alright. The food was still warm when served. I really love the aromatic rice and the not-so-oily rendang! The acar was a great appetizer as it was just a little sour. The papadom wasn't so crunchy but it was ok. They were very generous with the amount of beef. And I love it because it wasn't tough and not too lemak which also goes very well with the rice. Contrary to the name suggested, it wasn't spicy at all but fragrant a bit sweet in fact because there were raisins in there. Plus a glass of ice lemon tea, the bill summed up to RM18.80.

I'll have to drag my partner here to try this place and next time, it will be their biryani dishes.

Pork noodle @ Ming Tien OK Sep 28, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Food court | Noodles

Came by at Ming Tien for lunch one fine afternoon, as I have a meeting with a client here. After the meeting, I decided to eat around the area as car parks are hard to find in PJ area during lunch hour.

Ming tien was a good choice as it offers many varieties of food even during the day.

I ordered the pork ball noodle, which is known in Cantonese as Sam Kan Chong noodles. Unlike usual pork noodles, it does not have any internal pork organs.

In fact, it it served with some pork sausage and fish paste. I ordered a regular dry mee-bihun which costs RM4.50.

Surprisingly the soup was not exactly MSG laden, as it is cooked with the fish paste and vegetables. The fish paste was quite bouncy and the pork sausage was quite aromatic too.

The noodles have a good balance of soy sauce and dark caramel sauce. As with most yellow noodles in KL today, it has some lye water taste in it, although it is acceptable.

Mushroom soup @ Ani Sup Utara OK Sep 28, 2012
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Malay | Stall / Warung | Seafood

Ani Sup Utara is a franchise selling Malay cuisines, which primarily their menu focuses on soup, of course. A muslim colleague brought me here one day for dinner, after we went to a client's place.

I ordered the sup cendawan set (Mushroom soup set), which comes with the rice and soup. Unlike the western type of soup, this is actually not as thick and can be considered as broth.

The food did not take long to be served, as there was not many people. The soup was served boiling hot, so I had to wait for quite some time for it to cool down before I can actually sip some.

It also comes with half of a salted egg, and with the soup it is served with the white rice.
The sambal was actually very spicy. Even mixing a little with the rice was enough to to tingle my tongue.
For RM5.80 it is of decent price for such a meal.

Mediocre fried rice @ Nine 10 OK Sep 28, 2012

We had some Muslim colleagues joining us for lunch the other day. As we usually go for non-halal food, this cafe offers some decent Halal food.

Situated near the famous Lan Jie at USJ 1, Nine 10 has been around for quite some time, and it has served many of my colleagues for lunch and dinner for many years.
They serve beers at night and hosts football matches. It also has a nice pool table for those who would want to play pool.

Lunch time is much more toned down compared to dinner time of course.
Kampung Fried rice with Curry Chicken

They have set lunch, which comes with a main course and drinks. I ordered the Nasi Goreng Kampung (Kampung Fried Rice) with curry chicken. Ice lemon tea was ordered as beverage of choice.

The fried rice was mediocre only, as it lacks the spiciness and fried anchovies in the rice as expected from most Nasi Goreng Kampung. The curry chicken was quite nice, which is served well with the fried rice.

The ice lemon tea was not bad as well. It has a strong aroma, but it has too little ice that by the time I have finished my meal, the ice lemon tea was not cold anymore.
