Healthy Subway OK Sep 03, 2012

After consuming a few days of sinful oily hawker food in Penang, I've decided to have a healthy meal.

One of the most convenient and healthy option is Subway.

I ordered the steak and cheese, which is among my favourite in their menu.

As with all subway restaurants, you need to choose the size and type of bread, which I opted for a Parmesan Oregano 6 inch sub.

I then proceed to request for a lot of lettuce, onions, pepper, olive and cucumber. Finally, with the BBQ sauce and thousand island sauce, I was good to go!

I brought it back to the hotel to consume it. As you can see in the picture, it is slightly crushed as I overfilled the bread with vegetables.

It tastes very nice, a little on the bland side, but definitely healthy! The steak was a little too chewy, up to the point where they chained together. I had to bite the entire steak out as they were all connected. The cheese was too little for me to taste it. Perhaps it was overpowered by all the other flavours in the sub.

The vegetables are cold and fresh, which gives the sub a cool temperature. Great to eat when you want to eat healthy and fresh!

After a quick dinner, I was still a little itching for some sweet drinks, so I've decided to order a cup of Chatime.

To my surprise, Chatime's signature Pearl Milk Tea has ran out of stock! This is akin to Macdonald's running out of Big Mac!

But since I have already queued up for around 10 minutes already, I might as well order something else.
The cashier recommended the Mango Green Tea, and I chose Aloe Vera as the sides. Turns out it was a good combination indeed.

The drink itself was flavorful, being able to taste the mango infused with the aroma of green tea. It was slightly a little too sweet for me, but still bearable. The aloe compliments the drink very well, as it is chewy but not too sweet so it does not add on to the sweetness of the drink.

Ice was slightly too much for me as well, perhaps next time I should have ordered lesser ice. A good and light alternative to the signature pearl milk tea.

Decent Penang Curry Mee OK Sep 03, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Food court | Seafood | Noodles

Having to stay in Bayan Lepas to work on-site, Super Tanker would be the place to go as it offers variety and quality local food for cheap.

I intend to try many different stalls every time I come, and today is no exception.

I ordered the curry mee and it was decent. Being a spare part lover, I was delighted to have some coagulated pork's blood in my curry mee.
Before

Before

The curry mee came with the chilli on a spoon, unmixed. Before it was mixed, the broth was white, most likely being the coconut milk.
After

After

After mixing the chilli paste in, it then looks more like a curry mee. Certain parts of the noodles were slightly undercooked, making it a little chewy at some point. The noodles of course have some lye water taste to it, but barely noticeable.
The broth was not very rich, just passable. It was just spicy enough for my liking. The dish comes with some long beans, tofu, cockles, coagulated blood among others. It only costs RM2.70, and as expected the portion is of Penang size.

Conclusion is, it is alright but doesn't wow me.

Queen's Asam Laksa  OK Aug 29, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Food court | Stall / Warung | Noodles

I was working at the client's site in Penang recently, and it was my first visit to Super Tanker. The food court is huge, with many stalls offering many varieties of Penang food.

I ordered my favourite Penang dish, the Asam Laksa from the nearest stall where I sat.
Asam Laksa

Asam Laksa

It turned out OK, much better than most Asam Laksa that you can find in KL/PJ. The noodles were well cooked, they were springy and definitely not overcooked. It comes with some minced fish, peppermint, chopped chillis, pineapple and a generous serving of onions.
The most important part of the asam laksa is the broth and it did not disappoint nor did it exceed my expectations. It was spicy, with a nice aroma but it still lacks richness. I would be much happier if the soup has more fish, but for RM3 it was expected.

One of the few things which I love about the Leng Chee Kang in Penang is that it is cheap, delicious and full of ingredients! The leng chee kang at Chai Leng Park is no exception as well!

I randomly picked this stall, as there were many leng chee kang stalls along this row of food court stalls. The bowl of leng chee kang arrived not too long later, and it did not disappoint one bit.

It was filled to the brim, ranging from longan to white fungus, sweet potato, agar agar and a whole other ingredients which I do not even know its name!

For RM3, this is very worth the money! Surely something I cannot get from KL with these kind of prices. The ingredients are so much, I actually felt that there was not enough liquid to go around with.
