Half-cooked inchi kabin chicken Cry Sep 03, 2012

Nasi lemak Inchi Kabin

Nasi lemak Inchi Kabin

It was my 2nd time visiting Heritage Village. The first time I had the signature rendang beef nasi lemak and was quite happy with it. So this time I thought of trying something new. So I ordered the inchi kabin nasi lemak. It came after a short while. At first I thought it was ok until I taste the chicken. First, it was quite tasteless even with the 'special' sauce. Second, it was DRY. I had to ask the waitress to supply me some rendang to go with the rice. But what is worst is the half-cooked chicken. Halfway eating the chicken, I find that the meat is still sticking to its bones and it's still pink in color and taste raw. I didn't manage to finish the chicken and complained to the waitress about it. The first waitress just came and examine it but didn't do or said anything. The 2nd waitress simply said 'it happens'. I was dumb-founded. Nevertheless, I did not want to waste my time arguing as I was short of time. But I will not order this dish anymore...

Burger galore at Uptown Cry Aug 27, 2012
Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Sweets/Snack

After our usual badminton session, we were looking for lunch and a friend recommended Jin Yi at Uptown. He said the coffee was good, but never tried meals there before.

Turns out the menu was full of burgers, which gives us an impression that their burgers were good.
Mushroom soup

Mushroom soup

The mushroom soup arrived first, as the appetizer. It was normal, nothing special but at least not the Campbell's type.
Latte

Latte

The drinks came next. As they were famous with their coffee, we ordered latte. It was sugarless! Everybody had to request for extra syrup for their latte to have some taste in it. There was a strong coffee smell, but it was quite a letdown that no sugar was added at all.
Cappuccino

Cappuccino

Cappuccino was decent, at least. Nice touch to the presentation.
Cheeseburger (Beef)

Cheeseburger (Beef)

Beef burgers were first to arrive, starting with the cheese burgers. As you can see, it comes with chips, pickles, and some vegetables. The burger was juicy and you could tell it was fresh patties. However, it was not worth the price of RM25 per set (inclusive of a drink).
Mushroom Cheeseburger (Beef)

Mushroom Cheeseburger (Beef)

The mushroom cheeseburgers were next. It taste exactly like the cheeseburgers, but added with mushrooms. There wasn't much smell or taste from the mushroom, but it wasn't bad either.
Mutton burger

Mutton burger

Mutton burger was OK, but too as juicy as the beef burgers.
Chicken Burger

Chicken Burger

Chicken burger was a little dry, but not too bad as well.
Fish & Chips

Fish & Chips

Fish and chips came last. Nothing much to shout about actually.

The waiter made a mistake when serving the burgers, when he accidentally told us that the burger was mutton instead of beef. My friend was happily eating the burger when another mutton burger arrived, and the waiter told us that the burger my friend was eating was a beef burger. My friend does not consume beef due to his religion, so you could imagine the shock on his face. In the end he settled for the chicken burger, given to him from another friend.

Apart from the mistake, service was generally slow and their coffee wasn't top notch. For a price of RM25+, this will not be a place we will visit in the future.

One of the few things which I bought and took away from the pasar malam was from the bachang stall.
Dumplings for sale!

Dumplings for sale!

Bachang generally means glutinous rice dumpling. Bachangs are generally wrapped in bamboo leaves, which gives the dumpling a much fragrant aroma from the leaves. Bamboo leaves were also used mainly because the glutinous rice do not stick to the leaves when unpacking the bachang.

The stall sells a variety of bachang, from the regular meat bachang to the 'kan sui' alkaline dumpling. I bought the latter as part of dinner.
Kan Sui dumpling

Kan Sui dumpling

The 'kan sui' alkaline dumpling is quite nice, as it is fresh and very chewy. Dipping the dumpling with kaya is a good combination to eat to dumpling as it gives the dumpling a sweet but chewy texture.

For RM1 each dumpling, it is a fair price, althought I felt that the dumpling was a little small.

Fried salted fish rice @ Mr Kaya OK Oct 15, 2012

Categories : Malaysian variety | Western variety | Café | Steaks / Chops | Noodles

Came by Klang one day with a friend for lunch and he brought me to this interesting Kopitiam, called Mr Kaya Kopitiam. We've both never tried it before, so he suggested it out of convenience sake.

After giving us the menu, we were required to fill in the our orders ourselves on the order chit provided. This is a very common practice nowadays from many of the restaurants, as it increases staffs efficiency without having to wait for us to slowly decide.
I ordered the salted fish fried rice, which was my staple dish during my university days. It took quite some time to arrive, maybe because of the lunch crowd.
Salted Fish Fried Rice

When it arrived, it was piping hot which is a good sign that it has been freshly made. Upon the first bite, I knew it was nothing brilliant. The star of the dish, which is the salted fish was not fragrant enough, which does not give much taste to the rice. Luckily the rice itself had some taste and flavour to it, so it does not actually taste bland.

The fried rice also comes with mixed vegetables and shrimps. The portion is quite small for me, as I it couldn't last me till dinner. All in all, a decent meal. I don't understand why there's a crowd here but I guess its because of convenience sake like us too.

Claypot noodles OK Oct 11, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

A decent pot of claypot yeemee. But be aware that the soup is scorching hot when served. So it's advisable to let it cool down before consuming. The egg was still runny when eaten, thus, giving the soup an added flavour when mix together. The fishballs are also quite fresh and tangy. The fuchuk is the soft type but still taste quite good. But I get a bit thirsty after a while, probably due to the amount of pepper and salt in it...
