Satay Lok Lok Smile Mar 25, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot

Located at the T-junction of an old Melaka town is Capitol Satay. It has been run by 3 generations and is extremely famous within the region. International food celebrities have visited this place and you will notice all their photos up on the wall!

There are tons of signs saying that Capitol Satay doesn't have any brother or sister stalls elsewhere to remind you that this is the one and only Capitol Satay!

The queue grows pretty quickly here in a shop that only has about 15 tables.

You basically get assigned a table after waiting in line and getting bitten by mosquitos and the will bring you a pot of satay sauce with a concoction of spices.

After which you can go ahead to grab your sticks! It is 1.10rm per stick for all sticks except the prawns kept in another fridge in the back. There pork, quail eggs, fried dough fritters, vegetables and more.

We grabbed quite a huge array of everything and we had 4 pax total.

My favourite were these meat balls that you toss into the magic satay pot and you have to fish them out with the provided scoop. It absorbed all the flavour of the satay sauce completely!

At the end of the meal, someone will count all your sticks and give you the final bill. In our case it was 60+ rm for 4 pax!

Chicken rice Smile Mar 25, 2016

located on a newer stretch of shops is suukee. Most of the shops around it are still vacant and there's a papa rich at the end of the shops. The menu seems to consists of mainly just hainanese chicken and one side dishes but typical breakfast sets like half boiled egg, with toasts and bee hoon are available. But as I had visited on a weekday afternoon at 230pm, almost every table had ordered a chicken.

We ordered half a chicken for 4 pax and it was amazing. The chicken was drizzled with a soya sauce which was both sweet and savoury. The chicken skin was thin with a slight crisp on the edges. There wasn't any fats underneath the skin at all.

The shop is pretty big and airy with a large seating capacity. All the tables are round and great for parties for 6-8 pax. Even though the kopitiam isn't air conditioned, it was pretty airy as there was a cross follow of wind

The rice was fragrant and tasted really good with the sauce underneath the chicken! Here is my portion of rice and chicken.

I ordered a iced tea but it tasted really bland despite all the foam on top of it!

overall: really good chicken rice and we paid 58rm for everything !

Nonya Food in air con Smile Apr 24, 2016

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant

Located in front of the main stage where all the old folks gather to sing karaoke is this nonya restaurant. It has about 6 tables on the ground floor and some more tables on the second floor but the second floor is warmer.

It was a rather not day and so we choose to get cosy on the first floor. The owner was really friendly and recommended us lots of dishes to try. I don't take spicy foods so it was a bit difficult choosing nonya foods for me.

One thing I learnt about nonya food is that they have a lot of colours on the table.

The food came pretty quickly and everyone was happy with the food.

Fried mushrooms was my favorite. It was very crispy and tasty. Definitely my choice again if I was there.
