A day in TGIF Smile Jul 29, 2013

It is a place where I can't afford, just pass by. It is a name which I am so familiar with but have never tried. TGIFriday's, a place where I label it a very luxurious place, associated with expensive food, high class people and so forth. While, thanks and congratulation to Chaswood Brand for the 50th store opening on 22 November 2012. Chaswood Brand has expressed the pleasure and successful of them by providing 50% discount on food to all the franchises. It was so nice and this has created a golden chance for us, students, to savor a meal in T.G.I.F.

We went there in a gang of 11. It was so fortunate that we have made the booking earlier. We actually booked 10 seats, but there was another friend who wanted to join. When we called again yesterday to reserve for 1 more seat, we were told that it was fully reserved. Thus, it is recommended for making reservation whenever there is any kind of promotion like this. The most amazing part I would say was the service provided by the waitress. It was a promotion day, we were honored being treated politely as normal day. The waitress let us choose whether we want a smoking or non smoking area, any people birthday and any special requirements. So, it was so great, I would rate 100 marks for the services.

Well, it's time to talk about the food. I ordered Southwest Mac and Cheese Pasta. It was too bad that I had sore throat, so pasta was the most suitable dish for me.

Southwest Mac and Cheese
A juice fire-grilled chicken breast served with our creamy Monterey Jack, jalapenos, penne and cheese, then finished with shredded Parmesan cheese and diced red peppers.
RM26.90

I still remembered that the first taste on the pasta was so nice, I could sniff the smell of the cheesy pasta, and it was warm. The pasta was smooth and chewy. I almost scream for the delicious taste. Then, I still haven't managed to my second savor, I was asked to take photo together. Then, I went round table to taste others' dishes. Know what? When i get back to sit, my pasta turned cold. The cheese became sticky and hard, all the pasta stuck together. The grilled-chicken turned so dry until i felt so hard to chew and finish it. I was so regretful, and I stole the sauce from my friends to dip my chicken in. Well, I believed that it would be great if I could finish it earlier, I didn't rate a good grade for this dish for my experience.

My friend ordered another pasta, she preferred those steaks ordered by others.

Cajun Shrimp $ Chicken Pasta
Shrimp, chicken and fettuccine with a Cajun-Alfredo kick! Juicy shrimp and chicken are perfectly seasoned and sauteed with green and red bell peppers, then tossed with fettuccine, diced tomatoes and our creamy Cajun Alfredo sauce. Topped with freshly shaved Parmesan cheese and green onions.
RM30.90

Beefs time. Well, if you are beef lover, I would highly recommend you to try either one of this. It is so nice, and actually I don't like beef. While, I liked this so much, the meat is so soft and I think their sauce contribute a lot to the yummy taste.

Tennessee Steak
A thick 10-oz. Australian chilled air flown grain-fed strip steak, seared ad char-grilled to ideal tenderness. Served with seasonal vegetables, Cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and our Tennessee sauce.
RM59.90

Tennessee New York Strip & Shrimp

A generous 10-oz. Australian chilled air flown grain-fed strip steak and crispy Cajun-spiced shrimp served with Cheddar cheese mashed potatoes and our Tennessee sauce.
RM62.90

That's all the photos I managed to snap. There are friends who tried salmon and different type of chicken. Well, there is one ChopHouse Chicken is among the overall I like the most. It was some how liked a grilled in a hot plate. I didn't get the photo, but believe me it is was awesome, which is a dish shouldn't miss off. The chicken is deeply rinsed with the sauce and grilled in hot plate. ( I guessed it is the process of cooking it).

A friend called Michelle who like T.G.I.F so much recommended me to try the Fried Mac and Cheese. i didn't as i have mentioned I do have sore throat. So, I hope to pay a visit again, and try it and those burger who are really tempting me.

The last thing I want to share is this. You can entitled a free Chicken & Shrimp Cajun Pasta or Sizzling Chicken if you give T.G.I.F a feedback on your dining experience. You must fill in the feedback within 48hours. There is a check no in the receipt, fill this in the feedback form and after that you can get a valid code. As simple as this few steps and you are entitled another meal in T.G.I.F. It is damn worth.

This is our bill after 50%... hooray.. so happy with it.

This is a really joyful dining experience in T.G.I.F. For me, the food worth the price it costs. tongue

There are a whole lot of merchandises're selling Ipoh local biscuit and other packaged crackers surrounding the popular Bean Sprout Chicken restaurant like "Lou Wong" and "Aun Kei". I will recommend you to visit a bakery shop that is famous for it's "fresh" baked Kaya Puff. where you can see long queue almost everyday in the afternoon.

Besides kaya puff there are also other of local baked biscuits (I don't know their names cause I love only the kaya puff lol) but one can identify which is the most popular in the bakery shop, the big baking tray which can be placed dozens of Kaya Puffs will almost run out just after a few customers and you can see how constantly the boss (I guess) changes the baking tray.

This is the Kaya Puff that I am writing about, you are advised to savor one immediately when it is still hot, make sure don't eat them in your cars because it's soft texture confirm you that with every bite crumbs will fall from the biscuit.

Their biscuits is running fast during weekends and public holidays, thus please give them a call before going, to avoid disappointment. Their biscuits should satisfy your cravings for some light refreshment.

Nasi Beratur Smile Nov 06, 2013

Categories : Indian | Restaurant | Mixed rice

It's well known that Penang has very good Nasi Kandar
Nasi Kandar is just another masterpiece of Mamak of this cultural town
The best of the best Nasi Kandar in Penang is definitely "Nasi Beratur"
It is not hard to find it is just located beside the famous Kapitan Keling Mosque
lets check some photo of it

"Beratur" means queue up, and this is what really happens every night here from 9 something

You don't judge it by this messy look, their "Kuah Campur" is the best I have ever tasted, fragrance, aromatic, not too spicy

To me the "centerpiece" of a plate of awesome Nasi Kandar is the "Kuah Campur" or translated as "mixed sauces". This Beratur is simply just good at cooking delicious curry and sauce.

Just tell the guy "Kuah Campur", and with any dishes regardless, it will be a memorable taste of Penang

Beside fried chicken, there are also a range of other Mamak dishes like Mutton, Beef, Squid, Prawn etc etc. It's recommended to try fried chicken it is crispy and aromatic. And squid is not recommended, as it is too hard and the taste of the cooking isn't that nice, it cost RM6- RM10 per piece.

Jia Sai mee goreng Smile Nov 06, 2013

Categories : Indian | Restaurant

I was told by my roommate that there is a restaurant name Jiao Sai ( Bird Shit in Hokkien) in George town. Omg! I was so shocked as I have never heard this funny name along the years I have been studying in Penang Island.

I told my pal about it and she was as excited as me. So we went there last week to experience "Jiao Sai". Thanks to foursquare, it showed the exact location and also what must be tried there. The dish that is highly recommended is Tomyam Fried Mee (Mee Goreng Tomyam).

The picture below shows the signboard of the shop. You can see the wording 鸟粪, Jiao Sai, and also there are the bird shits stick on the signboard. I believe that it may be disgusting to some, but to me, it's so funny.

Well, we reached about 9pm, and there were just a couple of customers. I believe crowd starts after 10pm, as we could see more people coming when we were about to finish our dinner at around 10 pm. Usually there are few waiters standing outside. They are so friendly and keep asking us to take the photo. We do ask why is the shop named so, but too bad non of them can answer.

We ordered the famous Tomyam Fried Noodle. Since, it was not crowded, our dish was served within 10minutes.

Well, the noodle is a little different, because they use the Tomyam Instant Noodle from Thailand where the noodle is thinner and more chewy. Yeah. it is delicious for sure, as the noodle itself has a fragrant aroma of Tomyam, the specialty of Thailand instant noodle. The Tomyam Fried Mee is quite spicy. So for people who do not like spicy food can probably ask for less spicy when you place the order. It is served with sliced chicken meat and a half boiled fried egg. The chicken meat was too hard to chew and I felt that it was overcooked.

The shop also serve other different types of fried noodle, and roti canai. So, there are quite variety of food to choose for. Overall I give the noodle 6/10. As I felt that it was just a simple food, and I think it is prepared by the MSG of the Tomyam Instant Noodle too. Just pay a visit for the specialty of the shop name.

Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung | Nasi Lemak

I have been there for few times, I felt it was just a normal coffee shop. While, I visited again yesterday with my boyfriend. And that was the very first time I felt that their toast and coffee were so nice. Seriously delicious. It is absolutely worthwhile to try. And this is a favorite cafe to many of my friends too.

1.The Toast, it is baked in a traditional way - with charcoal. The taste of charcoal baked toast is totally
different from the one from oven, it is crunchier and smell greater. In addition, the combination of aromatic Kaya and Butter is always the best match to "Roti Bakar".

ii) Cup of Coffee - It was too sweet for me. While it was just fine when I dunked in the toast and the " "sweetness" was just perfectly diluted.

Another dish.

Normally they put few packs of Nasi Lemak on the table. You can take it yourself when you would like one.
The Nasi Lemak looks spicy where you can see all the Chili when first unwrap it. But, it is not too spicy. The Ikan Bilis are too salty for me, but the chili is quite nice. And I like the strong Pandan aroma on the rice.

The first time I was here the service of the staffs were very rude. They were not friendly at all. I told myself I would not pay a visit again, who knew I came again.

However, after trying for a few times (well, was forced to, as my friends urged me to bring them there), I felt the attitude of the staffs becoming better. Maybe because of the service change and I felt the dishes are getting nicer as well.

The cafe is always crowded and most of the time we need to stand beside and wait for a vacant table.

quite hard to find parking here, if you’re driving, try to turn into Lorong Kampung Malabar (next to Campbell Street). It is easier to find parking over here and you just need to walk for less than 100m.
