Good lunch at Fresca OK Aug 14, 2012   (Related Review)

Categories : Mexican | Restaurant | Bar & Pub

Since there were only two of us, we ordered only two main dishes as the following at Fresca for our lunch.

Enchiladas Verdes (RM15)
Enchiladas Verdes is actually corn tortillas stuffed with shredded chicken covered in salsa verde and gratin-cheese finish.

Lots of shredded chicken were given but I didn't really fancy the shredded chicken because I find them a bit dry. Not enough gravy. But when eaten together with the cheese, the chicken taste better as the cheese give the chicken a creamy and rich flavor.

Tacos Ensenada (RM 19.00)
Tacos Ensenada is a dish originated from Ensenada, Baja California. Tacos Ensenada is actually beer battered fish topped with coleslaw wrapped with flour tortillas. The addition of the coleslaw gives a crunchy texture to this dish. Supposedly the fish's batter contains beer but I can't taste the beer. To me, the fish tasted like the normal deep fried fish used in fish and chips and is slightly oily. The price for this dish is quite pricey as only 3 tacos ensenada being given.

Guacamole with chips  Smile Aug 14, 2012   (Related Review)

Categories : Mexican | Restaurant | Bar & Pub

Before my friend and I start off our main dishes at Fresca, we had the following Guacamole with chips as our starter. Guacamole name comes from the Aztec translation of 'Guac' meaning avocado, and 'Mole' meaning sauce.

Guacamole with chips (RM20.00)

This starter came with a basket of Tortilla chips which is made of corn and avocado sauce as the dipping. The avocado is mashed and have similar texture with mashed potato. The difference it that the avocado is more creamy, thick and rich. The combination of the crispy chips and the dipping gives an interesting flavor to my palate. After finishing all the chips, we have plenty of the dippings left, but we still finished the dippings cause it was good.

Drinks @ Fresca Smile Aug 13, 2012

My first Mexican dining experience is given to Fresca Mexican Restaurant & Bar at The Gardens Mall. It is located just opposite Han's Room. This Mexican restaurant has a cosy and nice ambience. Service was good too as when we arrived, the workers there warmly greeted us and quickly arrange our seating place for us and handling us the menu. We ordered the following as our drinks:

Mango juice (RM 9.50)
A very good pure mango juice. This mango juice is very thick with very little water in it, unlike those diluted mango juice in some places where it is diluted with water. Another good thing is I don't think they added sugar into the juice, even if they added in, it must be very little because all I can taste is mango's natural sweetness and not from sugar. Very refreshing.

Avocado juice (RM 12.00)
The avocado juice is not bad either because it is very think and rich in avocado but the taste is on the bland side as they did not add in sugar as well.

Duck Meal  Smile Aug 13, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles | Porridge

Time passes really fast as it is 6 months already since my last visit to Kam Heong. Today, mum and I finally tried Kam Heong's famous Lou Ngap aka braised duck for dinner. Besides the duck, we also had their braised duck intestines and gizzards. We returned home happy because the meal was good.

The chilli sauce to eat with the dishes are spicy and exciting.

Fragrant rice
The rice is good to eat even on its own and even nicer when eaten together with the gravy of the braised duck.

Braised duck
The above portion is for 2 people. The duck meat is tender & juicy and I don't really need to use much force to get the meat out from its bone. Although not healthy, it is best to eat the meat and skin together because it taste so good. Thumbs up..

Duck Gizzards
The gizzards were soft enough to chew unlike some places where the gizzards are so tough.

Duck Intestines
The intestines has a slight crunchy texture.

Both the gizzards & intestines were soaked in the delicious duck broth.

P/S: Do come early to avoid the crowd...

Total damage including 3 rice + 1 Chinese tea = RM 19.00

Fried Chicken Wings OK Aug 13, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Stall / Warung

This fried chicken stall in the OUG night market sells three types of fried chicken wings. The chicken wings are Nam Yue fried chicken wing, Fried chicken wing wrapped with pandan leaf and honey chicken wing. Both the following fried chicken wings are RM 1.50 each.

"Nam Yue" aka red beancurd fried chicken wing
This is my first time eating Nam Yue fried chicken wing as usually, I only eat Nam Yue fried pork belly. The fermented bean curd gives a savory-sweet taste to the chicken wing. The taste of the chicken wing is just nice. Luckily, it is not too salty as some Nam Yue dishes are on the salty side.

Fried chicken wing wrapped with pandan leaf
This chicken wing is quite crispy and rich in pandan flavor. not bad...
