Teochew Chendul along Penang Road in Penang is the most famous cendul stall in Penang. The stall is located in a humble back lane, small and shabby, with containers consisting red bean, cendul, coconut milk ,ice and gula melaka sauce occupying almost the whole stall. The stall is crowded with people all the time, and everyone standing near to stall is holding a bowl of cendul and eating it happily.

Teochew Cendul
The cendul comes in a small bowl, and it is sweet, chilling and refreshing with nice aroma from gula melaka and coconut milk. Having the soup together with cendul and red bean is indeed a perfect combination, and eating this under the hot sun is no doubt something enjoyable.

Wong Chau Jun Smile Jul 16, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

Wong Chau Jun is a restaurant in Penang George Town serving Chinese dish such as fish head noodles, steamed fish with hor fun, pork rib noodles and Wong Chau Jun signature tafu. Most customers come here for breakfast, and brunch for some. The shop is simple, brightly lit with chairs and tables as in most Chinese restaurant.

Steamed fish with Hor Fun
The whole dish is pretty simple, but the freshness of the ingredient makes the dish excellent. It is actually thickly sliced hor fun and fresh fish meat drenched in soy sauce and steamed to perfection. The juiciness of the fish is locked inside the fish, making it so juicy and soft. The hor fun is very smooth, and taste even smoother with the soy sauce.

Kedai Biskut & Kek Ming Xiang Tai Smile Jul 16, 2012

Kedai Biskut & Kek Ming Xiang Tai is a shop located along Burmah Road and it is originated from Teluk Intan. The shop is famous for their Trishaw Egg Tart. It is a rather small shop but very clean and tidy, with Chinese ancient wooden concept. One side of the shop has a counter and a cabinet with arrays of pastries and biscuit arranged beautifully for customers' to choose from. The other side of the shop has few tables with tall chairs where customers can enjoy the delicacies from Ming Xiang Tai such as egg tart, tau fu fa, chicken pai, and kaya puff.

Egg Tart
Handmade using a family recipes which has been passed down for more than 30 years, the egg tart is seriously delicious. The crust is fresh, puffy and flaky while the fillings is eggy, smooth, soft and not overly sweet. Biting into only one is never enough.

Salted Egg Pastry
Another must try in the shop will be the salted egg pastry. It is actually a flaky crust with salted egg and lotus paste brimming inside. The salted egg and lotus paste give a salty and sweet concoction, pairing so well with the aromatic crust.

New World Park is a food court located in the town of Penang. Comparing to some other food court, New World Park is cleaner and newer. The entire food court is fully occupied with stalls selling signature food from Penang such as rojak, laksa, curry mee, o chien, ice kacang and many more. The food court is spacious with lots of seating to occupy large crowd. The place is especially busy during dining hours.

Chicken & Duck Rice is one of the stalls available in the food court. The roasted chicken is nothing special, and the meat is rather tough. However, thanks to the sweet and salty gravy that makes a good complement to the roasted chicken. The roasted pork is beautifully roasted, taste so flavourful with the crispy skin.

Song River Cafe Smile Jul 16, 2012

Categories : Chinese | Food court | Stall / Warung | Bak Kut Teh

Song River Cafe is a coffee shop nearby to Gurney Plaza in Penang, and it is facing the sea. Getting a parking place there is rather difficult during night time, for most of the parking spaces are fully occupied by tourists or locals who are looking for food or strolling along the beach to get some sea breeze. Song River Cafe is a corner shoplot, and the shop is brightly lit with about 10 stalls operating during the night.

Fried Oyster (O Chien)

Among the famous dishes there is BBQ string ray, but the stall is closed on the night we go. So we get a plate of Fried Oyster (O Chien). The O chien is served pipping hot, with an generous amount of oyster sitting among the scramble egg and tapioca floor. The O Chien is very flavorful, and the oyster is fresh without smelly taste. It also has a spicy flavour, because chilli sauce is added together too, triggering your taste bud and you will chopstick one oyster after another. Delicious.
