Next to Gurney Plaza Penang is the Gurney Drive Hawker Center which is very famous among tourists. Food prices at the hawker centre is rather expensive but it is still busy with diners at night. At the stall 61 in the hawker centre, very nice pasembur is available. There is a wide variety of base ingredients to choose from such as prawn fritters, fried bean curd, fish balls, fish cake, fried octopus, fried crab, etc. etc.

Pasembur
The end product of the pasembur consisting of prawn fritter, bean curd, fish cake and shredded cucumber drenched in some orange-ish sauce looked a little unpleasant but tasted very nice. The thick orange-ish sauce had a combination of sweet, spicy and nutty taste, indeed its taste combines the shadow of chilli sauce and tomato sauce.

Hai Oan OK Jul 12, 2012
Categories : Chinese | Kopitiam | Noodles

Hai Oan, a very old shop located in the town of Penang, has been serving customers with their delicious Hainanese cuisines such as pork chop, pork buns and coffee. The interior is very simple, with ceramic tiles on walls, wooden chairs and marble tables, and old fashion fans swirling on the ceiling.

The Hainanese Pork Chop came with ample of gravy, accompanying by cubed potatoes, tomato, and onions. This dish didn’t win my heart in the serving portion, as the meat was not make-you-eat-until-full portion, but just enough for tea-time snack. However, the meat which was so tender and burst with juiciness, taste perfectly when dipped with the thick brown gravy sauce definitely make me want to order another plate.

Les Deux Garçons  OK Jul 12, 2012

I never get bored with macarons. Even though now the macaron fever is not as hot as when it first swept Malaysia, I still go crazy with them whenever I saw them in any bakery shops. I came across Les Deux Garcons macarons one day, and bought a few back home. The shop sells not only macarons, but always petite and delicious cakes.

colourful macarons

Among the flavours I bought are sesame, lemon, wasabi and chocolate. The macaron's shell has a crispy outer layer and soft fillings, and the ganache sandwiched within the shells are creamy but not too sweet. I like them all, and found that the wasabi flavour is very special.

Flying Chillies OK Jul 12, 2012
Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Seafood

Flying Chillies, the name indirectly makes me feel that having dishes with chillies in their restaurant will make you flying around with happiness. It is actually a Thai restaurant located at The Gardens, serving authentic Thai food in a cozy dining ambience.

Gaeng Keaw Wan

One of the must have dish in a Thai restaurant will be Gaeng Keaw Wan, or green curry chicken in English. The green curry chicken tasted so delightful, with chunks of tender chicken simmered in rich, thick and creamy green curry gravy. Having only the tender chicken without scooping the gravy into your rice is such a waste, as the flavourful curry goes really well with the rice.

The Loaf Smile Jul 12, 2012

The Loaf never fails to satisfy me with their premium quality buns, cakes, biscuits and other pastries. They first opened in Langkawi, and few years ago they started to have branches in KL and Selangor areas, which is a good news for me because I do not have to travel so far to savour their breads and cakes. When I know that they opened in Puchong, I am so happy because it is just 20 minutes drive from the place I am staying. The branch in Puchong is rather small, but it is not short of variety.

Loaf Potato
I try out the loaf potato, which is a hard bun with potato fillings. The bun is hard and chewy with a light saltiness, pairing well with the creamy potato fillings. The herbs sprinkled on top does make a good touch in adding up flavours to the bun.
