Balinese cuisine in MY Smile Jun 05, 2012

I've always wanted to try Balinese cuisine WITHOUT going to bali. So you can imagine how excited I was when I found out about this restaurant called The Uma nearby my house.

These are some of the food / drinks you should order if you ever pay this restaurant a visit in the future aight? tongue

Assam Pork Satay @ RM14. Pork satay! Dip the satay in the sauce and you're good to go! Sauce is sweet, with a little of spiciness in it, which makes the satay even tastier lol

Es Timun Segar @ RM7. It's a combination of fresh cucumber, lime and mint. Tasted refreshing at first sip and it just gets better as you sip on.

Pesan Be Tuna (Grilled Tuna in Banana Leaf Set) @ RM24. I think this could be shared among 2 persons if you have a very small appetite. With the side dishes served together in the meal, one could be easily satisfied; grilled tuna, fried potato, mixed vegetables, fried onions in oil, chili chicken strips etc.

Jus Apokat @ RM9. I've never thought that I would be drinking avocado juice one day. But this managed to surprise me. Bonus points awarded for the chocolate syrup!

Spending per head: Approximately RM35(晚餐)

I was very fortunate to have won a contest organized by Openrice and thus got myself an invitation to dine in at Hanare for 2 lol

Dried salmon. Very crunchy and I think it tasted very much like "bakkwa", but I couldn't bring myself to have a few more pieces as it was too salty to me.

Snail! This was part of the Zenzai that was served to us along with homemade Goma Tofu (sesame tofu), egg tofu & Seasonal Baby Squid (April - June only). I never thought I would have the chance to eat a snail but I did! In fact, it took me a lot of courage to eat this big snail on my first try. Surprisingly, it was better than I expected. Texture was somewhat similar to that of a squid.

Seasonal beef claypot rice in which the rice was served together with beef was absolutely delicious!

Ankake (donburi served with shrimp & chicken). Sweet in taste, rich in ingredients.

Snapper sperm sac. I ate this without knowing what it was. To me it looked like and tasted like mangosteen except that it wasn't sweet :|

Handmade mochi served with Japanese pear cooked in wine, strawberry & vanilla ice cream. Loved how I could eat ice cream with mochi together! Double sweetness at one go.

Dreams at Dreamz Smile Jun 05, 2012

I heard of this sweet little cozy cafe from a friend. A quick search online led me to their cafe in Kota Damansara on one evening. True enough, I was greeted by warm smiles by the staffs and the lady boss herself.

Ordered the Choco Mint layer cake and heart shaped macaron that was specially made for Valentine's Day.

Tasted chocolate-y and yet the mint flavour is just perfect as it is not too overwhelming.

Macaron isn't overly sweet; in fact it tasted like any orange flavoured cookies sold in market. The vanilla ice cream sandwiched in between definitely gave a little "oomph" to its overall taste.

Spending per head: Approximately RM20(下午茶)

Despite passing by this restaurant for so many times after its grand opening, my bf and I never set foot in it Watami until yesterday.

We were seated immediately as soon as we made our intentions clear that we would be dining in. Cutlery were already placed on the table together with the menu. Menu is quite extensive and looks classy (and heavy).

Bf ordered the Chicken Katsu Tomago Toji. Unlike any other chicken katsu served in other Japanese restaurants, this one didn't come with rice. Rice had to be ordered separately.

The egg was given separately and it's only poured into the broth when it was boiled using the portable stove.

Broth tasted salty to me but it was delicious to the bf. I probably won't order this in the next visit as I do not like any fried items to be soaked in broth and become soggy.

My Wafu pizza! It's a pizza topped with teriyaki chicken and sauce. Very crispy and thin slice of pizza which I could finish it on my own lol

Oh did I mention that the service here is superb? I think each waiter/waitress bowed to us before they spoke to us or brought us our orders.

Bill came up to ~RM77 for 2 persons.

Hainanese Chicken Chop Smile Jun 07, 2012

Categories : Western variety | Restaurant | Bar & Pub

Let's admit it, my office building has really limited food for us to choose from. Every day during lunch time my colleagues and I would face the biggest question of the day - where to eat?

One fine day, all of us agreed to drive around Mutiara Damansara area and hunt for food. Craft Brews was our choice. Free wifi, unique decorations on the wall, foosball table; I felt like I was at home smile

My pick that day was Hainanese chicken chop. It was part of the set meals offered. As the name implies, the chicken chop was prepared in Hainanese style; chicken was covered in brown onion gravy, served with potato wedges and green peas. This dish could have been better if the gravy was thicker. Set meal also included a bowl of soup and soft drink.
