Kai Zen Japenese Restaurant (Closed)

The food was just average, but not as good as Sushi Zanmai (where I usually go for Japanese food). They do have variety of foods though. They even serve rice, porridge, noodles, salads, and many more ala carte foods. But I guess normally people would choose from the set menus, since they are much more "cost-efficient".

When we eat Japanese food, we must eat sashimi. Although sashimi is normal for Japanese restaurant but we still can't run away from it. The sashimi in this restaurant is fresh! They also use the sashimi to make some sushi rolls. It is different feeling that you eat only sashimi and sashimi in sushi roll. I like to eat sashimi itself only but the sashimi sushi taste not bad too, they use thousand island sauce as their sauce. there are some fresh vegetables as their side dishes.

Tempura :Crispy and crunchy. They use some shrimp and vegetables to fried it. It is normal that you can see it from other japanese stall. Unfortunately, it is quite oily for me.Rice :Sadly speaking, it is not fluffy enough. The put some black sesame seeds on the rice as their decoration. Overall average.Unagi :Soft and sweet for the unagi. The taste is almost same as some restaurant. The unagi is soft. The put some fried egg under the unagi too. The fried egg is sweet too. Overall is quite sweet

Beef :Nice and soft and not hard to chew it. They mixed with bean sprouts and fried it just like teppanyaki in some japanese restaurant.Gyoza :Quite thick skin, but the filling is soft and nice. So is average. They fried the gyoza until the surface become golden brown in colour. Salmon :Fresh fried salmon in this dish that taste great! they also add a slide of lemon beside so you can mix it. After mixing it, it will become sour and salty. taste good

Unagi :Soft unagi with sweet sauce taste great! I enjoy it. They put some fried egg under the unagi. The fried egg is sweet too..Salmon Sashimi:The salmon sashimi is normal, just like other restaurant that can be ordered in other restaurant. It consider a average standard? They put a slice of lemon for the sashimi so it taste a little sour and fresh sashimi.Vegetables :Taste average. Doesn't taste before the taste.Overall is great

They use warm and dim light for their environment. Their environment is quite cozy and romantic. It is very warm and comfortable This dish contain some spring onion, vegetables, meat and so on. The soup is spicy. Really extremely too spicy for me. It also taste a little sour too (a little bit taste like tomyam but not fully taste exactly like tomyam) There are some kimchi in this dish too.

They put some spring onion on the udon ( a big fat white noodle that mainly for Japanese food) The dish have some seaweed, spring onion, meat, onion, vegetables and so on. The meat is really soft and smooth it really have the juice from the soup when you eat it. The soup taste is great. The aroma of the dish is good too. It is worth to have second time.Overall the taste is great!

Soft unagi with some sweet sauce but it taste okay for me. There are some sesame seeds on the unagi, i think that is for the decoration? The rice is soft and sticky you can taste a little sweetness from the sauce and some vinegar taste that had been mixed inside the sushi rice. They have fried egg (which is sweet) and some fresh cucumber in the sushi roll. They also but some seaweed too

It have some fresh lettuces vegetable, fried crab, and some sushi roll. The sushi roll are coated up with bridge orange little fish egg. The fish egg is a little salty for me. Inside the sushi roll they have some cucumber and crab stick. The cucumber is fresh and so the crab stick is cold. For the fried crab, it is quite crunchy. They put some thousand island sauce on the sushi. Overall is average.

This is the sirloin steak in a sizzling hot plate. When the waiter served us, we can hear the oil sizzling sound from far. Followed closely is the aroma of the steak that infused the whole restaurant. The steak was marinated and cooked in the teriyaki sauce. The sweet teriyaki sauce goes well with the juices from the steak. The portion was also quite big. The steak remained tender, moist and juicy.

My all time favorite noodle is the green tea flavored cold noodle. It is uncommon for Malaysian to eat cold noodle, we always have it hot. However, only in Japanese Restaurant that this dish will be ordered. I love the springy, thin noodle. It has a moderate taste of the green tea. The noodle is cold and not seasoned. For flavors, i will dip the noodle in a separate serving of the sauce. The sauce is not a thick sauce, similar to a soy sauce, but taste slightly sweet. Also love the shredded seaw

We love the sashimi so much we ordered another sashimi set dinner. The sashimi set comprised of salmon, squid, tuna, and prawns. They were all raw, and fresh. Overall, the salmon sashimi and the squid were the most enjoyable sashimi. Tuna was not really our likeing. The set comes witht the rice, miso soup and a small spring roll. The miso beancurd soup was tasty and the miso bean taste was fragrant.

Another must order from the Japanese Restaurant is the soft shell crab handroll. The presentation of the handroll was nice. I like that the handroll was quite a big piece and they give extra preserved vinegar. The preserved vinegar was sweet and spicy. In the handroll there are raw fish roe, lettuce, cucumber, soft shell crab and the wasabi mayonnaise. I love the wasabi mayonnaise which tasted great. The soft shell crab was deep fried and non oily. The rice was firm and nicely wrapped by the cru

We also jumped into the chance of ordering half a dozen of fresh oyster. we were very excited looking at the big pieces of oyster on top of the iced cold bed. The oysters were fresh and meaty. For fresh oysters, do expect the taste of sea water. My usual eating oyster habit would be a dash of tabasco sauce and a squeeze of the lemon juice. The spicy and sourish juice will eliminate the unpleasant sea water smell if the smell is too overpowering.

We always love to order salmon sashimi whenever we dine in Japanese Restaurant. The salmon sashimi served by Kai Zen was above average standard. As long as the salmon sashimi were fresh, we have no complaints. The salmon sashimi also have thick cuts. The salmon was cold, and does not have "funny smell". Love the wasabi and soy sauce together with the salmon sashimi. The wasabi could eliminate the excess salmon fats.
