when me and the bf were itching to find a cafe to chill and study, we randomly walked into this cafe which was actually quite packed but still roomy and peaceful for us to enter and chill. little did i know, the cafe is actually a Malay-based cafe opened by the famous Chef Riz. from the menu i can see that he mostly caters from local delicacies to a mixture of fusion food. for our meal me and the bf shared a plate of lasagna, served with a side salad. i don't know why but i love the salad so much! i think its the vigar and sesame dressing that made me like it, haha. the lasagna on the other hand was cooked well, with a thick yet crisp layer of cheese. although i hoped that their fillings would be more because sometimes i felt like i was chewing through plain cheese only. continue reading

Fourth time's the charm? Chef Riz Redz has opened Flavours Restaurant at the Telawi address where Nasi Lemak Antarabangsa, Nasi Lemak Tanglin and Heritage Food consecutively lived and died since 2009. One thing remains constant: there's always nasi lemak here. Flavours' nicely presented rendition (about RM6) tastes fair, thanks to a satisfyingly savory sambal, though the rice could be much more moist and fragrant. Flavours offers traditional side dishes to accompany the rice: have some rendang ayam nagori (RM6), or choose from the selection of ayam kampung goreng bumbu, dendeng daging balado, sambal tumis sotong kering and paru goreng. Western fare sits alongside Asian recipes on Flavours' menu. For a pasta that partners the best of both sides of the culinary world, this spaghetti flooded with buttermilk garlic sauce, cili padi, curry leaves and crispy calamari is absolutely addictive. Our visit to Flavours last week was during its trial run, so only rice and pasta were available. But in the weeks ahead, expect to see familiar favorites from Chef Riz's original outlet, On The Table _ such as his signature beef burgers and beef goulash pie _ surface at Flavours. continue reading

I questioned the waiter "What was their specialty pasta?" and he answered me "The Buttermilk Pasta", so I gave it a try . The pasta is consists of angel hair noodles coated with buttermilk garlic sauce with some chili, curry leaves and fried calamaris. This noodle is actually very good. It tasted a little creamy and also a little spicy. Both taste blend with each other so well. But they could improve on their calamaris. It was a little soft when I ate it. continue reading
