8 Still Recommended Food at PJ Old Town!

Considered as the oldest area in PJ, do you know they actually had patrons going back to the same eatery to enjoy food that are still recommended here? Operating for decades, these are the food that still gets the attention of many where they’ll be there for some good old tastes whenever they have the time! Why not we try the same recommended food too? Let’s go!

1. Veng Soon Claypot Chicken Rice



Famous for clay pot chicken rice, the chicken here is nicely marinated and tastes smooth and soft. Everything in this clay pot is nicely added where it has the right amount of saltiness and sweetness, mix everything up for piping hot and fragrant clay pot chicken rice!

2. Gerai Makanan Kie Kee  

Famous for the chicken rice, they have been operating here for more than 5 decades. Roasted chicken was one of the best sellers here and apart from that, they do have a home recipe for stewed chicken that is cooked with herbs and soy sauce. Smooth and flavorful, it usually sold off fast too. Not just that, the Char Siu here were nicely caramelized and that slightly charred edges were so good eaten just like that!

3. Soon Lee Coffee Shop  

This coffee shop that is famous for most of the food there, many were here for the Kuey Teow soup. What makes it special is that the Kuey Teow soup is served with shredded chicken slices and fish balls plus you’ll notice pork lard is used in it. Besides Kuey Teow soup, there are other food like pork noodles, curry mee, Hakka Lei Cha and more to enjoy from Soon Lee Coffee Shop.

4. Sri Ganapathi Mess  

A home-based banana leaf rice is now no longer a secret! Come here to enjoy the best of banana leaf rice where rice and 3 vegetables of the day are served, many would recommend trying the Crab Rasam! On a side note, you might want to try some sauce-laden dishes like the chicken or mutton varuval; are you game for some spicy food right now?



5. Fish Paste Noodles  

Another home-based eatery that serves delicious fish paste noodles, they are usually crowded even it is secluded. Fish paste was handmade daily to ensure its freshness, it comes with a homemade dumpling as well that is stuffed with fresh minced meat and minced prawn meat too. Value for money, no wonder patrons are still willing to wait for a table!

6. Thoo Yuen Pork Satay

There are so many versions of satay around Klang Valley but when you are here, be sure to come over to Thoo Yuen for some mouth watering pork satay! The meat here was soft and nicely grilled with some charred on the side, upon chewing on it, you’ll enjoy how it tastes due to the long hours of margination done. Dip them up on the homemade peanut sauce to enhance the taste!

7. Heng Kee Bak Kut Teh  

Asked anyone about this stall, they will sure to tell you how good it still tastes. Bak Kut Teh here is served in bowls instead of clay pots, and you get to choose your favorite meat ranging from pork belly, ribs, innards, or the fat and lean meat. Strong and thick in taste, enjoy them with fried fritters too!

8. Yi Poh Restaurant  

If you’ve been to Seremban, then you’ll know that this one of the famous places for some ‘rat noodle’ Lou Shu Fen. Unlike the usual Lou Shu Fen, theirs are slightly looking like ‘Lai Fun’ but the texture and taste are not like it. Smoother and eaten dry with minced pork meat, Char Siu slices, and that specially made sauce – mixed everything up for a perfect bowl of Yi Poh’s recipe!
