ChongQing Hot Pot OK Sep 11, 2013
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

Served in a hot pot, with continuous burning fire below it, the dish itself came looking really colourful with the carrot and vegetables on top of the chicken pieces. Personally I liked the soup, when boiling hot it does tantalize your tastebuds with its spiciness. The chicken pieces were a tad too small though.

on top of the mains, there was a fridge filled with side dishes comprising of baskets/bowls of vegetables, bowls of pork /fish balls, noodles, mushrooms and beancurd. Each side dish had a price ranging from RM1 to RM4, which goes well with our main hot pot.

One of the famous yong tau fu restaurants in Ampang, this is a must-try spot for locals and visitors alike. The vegetables and meat pieces that were provided tasted good, albeit slightly too salty. They come in soup version and the fried pieces. For the soup version, I felt it was too salty for my taste.

As for the fried yong tau fu pieces, it was really crispy, good for fried food lovers. Unfortunately, it was oily, so prepare lots of tissue to soak up those excess oil. Overall, an okay spot to have the "famous" yong tau fu, but personally I feel it is overrated.

Xiao Fei Yang OK Sep 11, 2013

what differentiates Xiao Fei Yang from the rest was the fact that they have these different types of sauce and condiments as our dippings. Mix it all together, and it really does give that additional kick to the overall taste.

The soup was really spicy with the Ma La Peppercorn Seed inside, definately not for the spicy intolerant people nor the faint hearted. The soup created a numbing sensation on our lips the moment we took it in. It was good that we took the herbal chicken soup as well, because it helps a lot in neutralizing the spiciness of our ingredients.

So I got to know a fellow blogger friend from Sibu was in town, and upon a request to meet up, landed myself at Little Penang Kafe @ Midvalley Megamall for a short dinner.

The two side dishes which we ordered were the Penang styled Otak Otak, and the Lor Bak. Very similar to what we would find on the streets of Penang, the Otak Otak was the wet version. The Lor Bak had ample chicken meat inside, crispy on the outside. Tasty stuff there, which complement our main dishes really well. The rather high prices didn't sit too well with me though.

On the menu, this Char Kuey Teow dish was tagged as one of the chef's recommendation. There was a choice of the normal one as well as the "seafood type" which went for a slightly higher price of RM18. Shown above is the normal one, which came in a rather huge portion, with 3-4 pieces of prawns and "crab meat" on top. The taste is almost similar to the good ones I've had in Penang, except for the slightly wetter texture. Pretty good I would say.

Categories : Taiwanese | Juices / Bubble Tea / Tea / Yogurt | Desserts

It has been a while since my last dessert review. Taiwanese desserts have been really popular lately, not exactly my favourite, but I will never turn down a nice bowl of sweet iced dessert. Last weekend, I had the opportunity to catch a high tea session over at Meet Fresh Taiwanese Dessert Pavilion KL with some of their VIPs and founders.

The Taro Balls Desserts 4 came looking real pretty with four different flavours. We had these taro balls which were soft, and chewy, just the way I like. It was a tad bit unfortunate that the sweetness level was too low, which may be healthy, but I love my desserts sweet!

To quench our thirst while we were sitting through the press conference where Malaysia Meet Fresh director, Mr Danny Lim gave his speech, we were treated to their Winter Melon Tea with Mini Taro Balls. I like this drink, as it was refreshing, with enough sweetness to keep me drinking until I got to those small taro balls. I do recommend this drink for those looking for a refreshing drink.

Served next was Meet Fresh's signature Herbal Jelly or better known as "guai lin gao". To fully enjoy this dessert, we were given a small cup of fresh cold milk, which I poured happily all over the herbal jelly. Again, it would have been much better had there been more sugar in this dessert. I would think most Malaysians love their desserts sweet, and serving a "healthy" less sugar dessert just doesn't quite hit the taste buds.
