The Quiet Little Corner OK Dec 27, 2015

Categories : Western variety | Café | Pizza/Pasta | Burgers / Sandwiches

We actually stumbled across this café by chance. We were looking for a café to hangout after lunch at Sunway Pyramid. There was also a Starbucks few doors away. In comparison, Starbucks was full house and really packed with café goers. The morning after was rather quiet with only a few tables occupied.

Since we preferred a less crowded place to unwind our already stressful day, it was the perfect spot for us to chill. With a dark interior and wooden tables, coupled with black and white posters and pictures hanged on the wall, it was rather classy and elegant. The temperature of their air conditioned was just nice, cooling enough for the hot weather in Malaysia. Just a point to note though, there were some after smells on our clothing after we left the café. Perhaps it was the ventilation issue, but it didn’t smell that bad in the café itself.

We had their wedges and I ordered the caramel macchiato. The wedges were deep fried, with a subtle hint of pepper taste. It comes along with a small sauce, mayonnaise and cheese which is very similar to the KFC wedges’ sauce. It was crispy and good for a light bite after meal. We had no complaints with our drink either. Perhaps they should advertise more about their whereabouts to attract for patrons in the future.

It's I'm Spicy again! OK Dec 27, 2015   (Related Review)

Categories : Thai | Restaurant | Steaks / Chops | Seafood | Noodles

This time around we went for lunch instead. As usual, it is already packed and full house by the time we reached about 1.30 in the afternoon. But still, luckily enough we manage to grab a table for ourselves.

Instead of thai dishes and rice, one can actually opt for their ala carte which is only served during lunch time. On average, the ala carte costs about less than RM 20 per servings. But mostly it consists of a variety of noodles, from seafood noodles, thai spicy noodles with pork and a few more other choices. As for rice, they have only two options which is the stewed pork leg with rice and the green curry chicken with rice.

This time around I had the green curry chicken with rice. The portion is just nice, not too small nor too big either. Taste wise, it was a bit bland though, compared to the green curry chicken we had in Absolute Thai. The curry is not spicy at all, and the gravy was rather watery. The chicken meats were tender but nothing great to shout about.

And of course we had their signature house drinks in a jug (RM 18). As usual, it is refreshing with the crushed mint leaves and pandan water. Nevertheless, we still enjoy our meal here as always.

French Brunch Smile Dec 27, 2015

Categories : French | Café | Sweets/Snack

It’s Yeast again! But this time instead of their first outlet in Telawi Bangsar, they opened another one in Mid Valley. It has been awhile since I last walked along the outer street of Mid Valley so many new restaurants have popped up. For your information, Yeast Mid Valley is located two doors away from Chilis and Antipodean Café. Yes, Antipodean is in Mid Valley as well. Perhaps we will try that another day.

Yeast offers traditional French Artisan Breads with a variety of pastries and bread to choose from. For those who prefers the big American breakfast with sausages eggs and bacon, this may not be an ideal choice but if you are after French breads like, this smells like heavens!
The interior and decoration of the restaurant offers a warm and cosy environment to dine in. The perfect spot to chill and have a good brunch with your loved ones.

I had the Brioche French Toast with Caramelized Apples which cost RM 18. The bread was oh so fluffy and thick, filling enough to last me throughout the whole morning and afternoon. There was some maple syrup on top of it, paired with the caramelized apples. It was definitely a perfect combination. Not too sweet, just nice for my liking.

Will definitely come back again to try their croissant!

Dai Chow in Cheras OK Dec 27, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

Restaurant 9888. Reminds us of our local Chinese radio station. A catchy name and I guess perhaps a lucky number for the restaurant owner?

This restaurant offers the typical Chinese stir fried “dai chow” kind of dishes. It is located in Cheras, a stone throw away from the Mid Point Pandan Indah shopping complex. The area is quite secluded though, but fret not. We manage to waze our way there.

As recommended by the boss, we had the buttermilk “dancing fish” (the dry version), the double chicken and duck pot, the double spinach combo, deep fried salted egg pumpkin and chilli and lime steam seafood.

The buttermilk fish is rather dry though, taste wise it was fine. The chicken and duck combination faintly resembles the taste of the Taiwan “3 cup” chicken with herbs and dried chillies. The double spinach is their famous dish but we find the combination a bit off. The spinach is deep fried “ala deep fried thai kangkung style” with egg gravy similar to those of “wan tan hor” noodles. The gravy makes the vege less crunchy and chewy. As for the pumpkin, it was really good. The chilli and lime seafood wasn’t too bad either. It consists of squid, prawns and scallops.

The bill came up to about RM 200. Not too pricey but wouldn’t return anytime soon.

Roasted Meat Chinese Cuisine OK Dec 17, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant

I remember bringing the parents for a typical Chinese dinner at this place when they were newly opened approximately two years back. They serve a decent selection of roasted meats, char siew, siu yuk and of course duck (that’s why the name).

As a starter, they normally serve a complimentary soup of the day for each of the diner in a small bowl, similar to those miso soup sizes where you can find in Japanese Restaurant. As usual, we ordered half a roast duck, Chinese spinach in superior broth, taufoo and what they claimed as their new chef recommendation, braised pork.

The roast duck was okay, but the skin wasn’t as crispy as before. Both the spinach and taufoo was all right as well, but nothing too great to shout about. As for the braised pork, we think that it does not fit to be in the “recommended menu”. It was nothing special, the meat were not juicy it was rather dry. Tasted mediocre, we wouldn’t recommend this to any other diners.
At the end of the meal, they served another complimentary dessert, herbal jelly or better known as “guilingao”. To their defense though, the waiters were quite attentive. Nevertheless, still an ideal place for a typical Chinese meal.
