Yummy in our tummy Smile Jan 11, 2016

It's the beginning of festive season again. We had our very first lou sang of the year, with jelly fish and pear. It was so juicy and crunchy at the same time.

For those of you who are local from Kuala Lumpur, I bet you have definitely heard of this old but gold restaurant, Pik Wah which is located next to the old Methodist Boys KL school near Jalan Davidson.

Despite its aging building, the interior of the restaurant still looks good. Never judge the book by its cover as we all went home with an extremely happy tummy.

We had the course meal which cost about RM 600 per table. Comes with a three dish combination, taufoo soup, pomfret fish, toasted garlic prawn, salad chicken, dual kai lan, fried rice, small pao as dessert as well as water chest nut tong sui.

The three dishes combo was unique. Comes with a crab filled paste and stuffed bean curd. The chicken salad was special too. Fried chicken with salad dressings and fruits, it was so good that we cleared the plate within minutes. Fried rice was a bit salty though but the pomfret fish makes up for it. With only RM 600, we are still able to have pomfret fish. Definitely worth the price. There was no fishy smell and the flesh was just nice, not too over cooked either.

Despite the old restaurant condition, it was full house last night. Definitely needs reservation before hand.

Tea time! Smile Jan 11, 2016

It's weekend again! Best moment to spend time with your loved ones. Since Chinese New Year is drawing near, I brought my parents and siblings to Lot 10 for new year shopping.

We didn't know Isetan is currently undergoing renovation hence the only options left are either H&M and Zara with some other smaller designer boutiques. After shopping we were pretty exhausted so we settled at The Coffee Bean tea leaf for tea time as well as to rest our legs.

For Citibank card holders, we are entitled to 15% discount of all items. Their cranberry scones looks inviting from the shelf, hence we ordered that and a cup of hot latte.

It was unexpectedly good. They reheat the scones for us. The amount of cranberry was abundant, with every bite there were a mouthful of cranberry. Perfect for berries lover like myself. Buttery and soft, it melt in our mouth literally. The scones came with two choice of jams too depending on your liking, but I always mixed them both. Butter and strawberry jam.

Of course the latte was really good too. The caffeine smells really good with the right portion of milk. Perfect for tea time totally. Perhaps we were too tired as well, paired with the right scones and coffee, the experience was totally amazing.

Wok Fried Goodies OK Jan 10, 2016

If you have been staying around Jalan Ipoh or Sentul area, I bet you will never missed the highly rated and talked about Chinese Stir Fry (Dai Chow) place in Sentul, Lau Heong Restaurant.

For your information, there are actually two of the same restaurant. One is located in Sentul Raya where KFC is located at while another is located somewhere behind the UTC Sentul. Both serves really good Chinese cuisine. We always end up there with a happy tummy!

This time we went to Sentul Raya's branch. There are two floors, the one at the bottom without air conditioner and it can get quite hot after an hour or so of seating.

We ordered their usual famous dishes, the deep fried nam yu chicken, fish head curry hot pot, hot plate seafood as well as a stir fry vege with garlic. The bill came up to about RM89 for 5 pax.

The deep fried chicken taste good as usual. It was chewy on the inside with the deeply marinated wings, it was mouth watering. The hot plate seafood was good as well, despite the small portion. Fish head curry hot pot was flavourful, without the fishy smell. The flesh was fresh and we finish all of it.

Do come early to avoid disappointment and long waiting time.

Halal Korean OK Jan 10, 2016
Categories : Korean | Restaurant | Seafood | Noodles

Dubu dubu. The only halal Korean restaurant to date which I've known of. Not too sure if there's any other pork free Korean place as pork serves as one of the major ingredient in Korean cuisine.

It was a Friday lunch and the queue was exceptionally long for all the restaurants. We finally decided to settle for this place as the table turnover was pretty fast. It took us 15 mins to get a seat which isn't too bad compared to the rest.

Of course we had their lunch set. About RM 16.9 which comes with a meal and ban chan. Sadly if you want a refillable side dish (ban chan) you will have to top up RM 2.30. Not a viable option considering the ban chan doesn't taste as good either. A very normal side dish with not much varieties.

I had the seafood ramyeon and it was burning hot and spicy. With every bite, my tongue was dipped in volcanic lava literally. The noodles wasn't cooked properly perhaps due to rush hour lunch, it was still hard but acceptable for me as I do not fancy soft and overlooked soggy noodles anyway. It comes with two prawns with some lalas as well. The broth was okay but the spiciness covers almost every other taste.

All in all, it wasn't too bad of an experience. Just a note though, never visit the Mid Valley branch as the quality of food was really horrible. The one in Nu Sentral definitely serve better food.

Dim Sum galore OK Jan 08, 2016
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood | Group/Family dining

It's dim sum time again! Always looking forward to it as it has been a family ritual for years on public holiday.

We are usually regular patrons of Grand Imperial Restaurant but this time, we decided to try the highly spoken of dim sum restaurant, the Ming Room which is located in the very same building Bangsar Shopping Complex on the very same floor. One at the newer building and Ming is tucked in the other corner of the older block. Both easily accessible via escalator.

It was 9.30 AM but they are not opened yet. Some patrons are seen standing outside the restaurant waiting for them to open. At 10 AM sharp, we walked in and we were informed that it is difficult for us to get a table unless there were reservation made. We were furious as we were there half an hour before it actually opens.

Thankfully they manage to find a table for us. Compared to Grand Imperial, they are rather small and too many partitions. Perhaps for wedding dinners, this might not be an ideal place after all.

So after hearing tons of good reviews about this place, we came with really high hopes and expectations but we were dissapointed. The minced meat in the dumplings were fresh, it was rather soggy and damp. The other dim sums like the fried Chee Cheong fun wasn't great either. Egg tarts was average but nothing great to shout about.

Compared to their branches under the same group, we think that Maju Palace fare better in terms of good quality and taste wise even though it's a halal restaurant. Spacious as well.
