Tea flavoured cuisine Smile Jan 13, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Seafood

This is always our regular place to dine in if we ever visit The Gardens Mall on weekends.

It has been a favorite of my parents as it offers authentic and tasty Chinese cuisine with a flare of tea infused food, making it even more special and fragrant.

However it is best to come early, the tables are usually taken up during dinner time hence be there as early as 6PM. As the saying goes, early bird gets the worm!

This time around, instead of ordering dishes we had the ala carte individual rice. We had the Hakka Lei Cha with rice as well as the XO sauce fried rice.

Some may afraid that the food will taste bland here as it is geared towards the healthy diet but do not worry. It taste really really good, especially the XO sauce fried rice. It has minced chicken with it, with a slight spiciness from the XO sauce making it the perfect combination ever. We actually ordered two plates of the same fried rice.

For dessert, we wanted to try their glutinous ball with soya soup. The presentation was so pretty with flower buds, melt the heart of us ladies. The glutinous ball was chewy and tangy and the soya wasn't too sweet either. The perfect desert to end the meal that night.

Coconut Craze Smile Jan 13, 2016
Categories : Thai | Stall / Warung | Ice Cream / Froyo / Gelato

The coconut craze has begun in town. It has always been a major ingredient in our local cuisine, but this time around it's the ice cream. Yes you read that right, ice cream.

We have always hear and read about their desert when they first started out. As they branch out to even more branches in town, we finally manage to grab one in Nu Sentral. For your information, Sangkaya is a local developed creamery brand. We first thought it was from Thailand.

Anyway, thankfully there wasn't a long queue but there were only a handful of tables, best option is to take away after meal. What else can beat a cup of ridiculously good and refreshing coconut ice cream in Malaysia's weather?

But in our opinion, the ice cream doesn't come cheap. For three scoops you can opt for the one in the coconut shell with toppings of your choice. Very much to our liking, probably because it is less sweet compared to the regular ice cream flavours (chocolate, caramel) etc.

It's best to add peanuts and sweet corn as toppings as it complements the ice cream perfectly. The coconut taste is really strong, perfect for coconut lovers like myself. It still leaves an after taste in our mouth after each and every scoop.

Ignorance isn't bliss at times. Smile Jan 12, 2016

Now for those who have been to publika, I'm sure you have heard of the highly spoken of cafe, The Red Bean Bag. We are regular patrons of the said restaurant but got bored after a while. We stumbled across this hidden cafe in the corner, one floor below The Red Bean Cafe. If I'm not wrong, it should be directly below the famous Nathalie Gourmet Cuisine.

We were skeptical at first as there was empty tables with unnecessarily amount of workers waiting to serve the diners. But they prove us wrong.

We had the Aunty Joana's baked egg and it was really good. Faintly resembles the one we had in Perth, we were amazed that we could find similarly good and tasty baked eggs here in Malaysia.

There were chicken sausages, baked beans, caramelized onions and mushrooms in the baked eggs. It comes with slices of bread as well. It was so satisfying with the cheesy toppings and filling oven baked eggs, truly made my day.

On the other hand, my friend had one of their carbonara spaghetti. Topped with an egg Benedict with sautéed mushrooms, the sauce was just right without the overwhelming taste that some spaghetti might bring about after a few bites. The portion was huge for girl eaters.

This cafe do offer their special menu of the day as well from time to time. For those who wants something different, you may enquire about it with their staffs or usually they will go around asking the diners if they would like to try as well.

Innovative Smile Jan 12, 2016

Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

I think we are all pretty innovative these days, to the extent of bringing our innovative self into the food and beverage industry. Stir Fry Dry Asam Laksa, I bet some of you may not have heard or even try any of it.

For those of you who have never been, this restaurant is located in Subang Jaya, Seksyen 14 not too far away from the famous Taylors College and Metropolitan College. The dry asam laksa comes with the normal laksa ingredients one can find in a soup asam laksa, i.e. onions, pineapples, cucumbers, peppermint leaves and of course the laksa noodles (lai fun).

In our opinion, it was quite special. The stir fry method makes the noodles more fragrant with the taste of prawn paste. We all love the fry laksa despite the lacking of one of the main ingredient, the fish chunks. We tried their other options on the menu as well, stir fry mee jawa and popiah. The mee jawa was quite good as well, but the popiah was a let-down. The popiah skin was so soggy, and the filling wasn’t fragrant enough. We can find better popiahs at our regular night market.

Just a hint though, the portion was pretty small. Not a viable option to share among friends unless you aren’t a stir fry food lover like myself!

Yummy in our tummy Smile Jan 11, 2016

It's the beginning of festive season again. We had our very first lou sang of the year, with jelly fish and pear. It was so juicy and crunchy at the same time.

For those of you who are local from Kuala Lumpur, I bet you have definitely heard of this old but gold restaurant, Pik Wah which is located next to the old Methodist Boys KL school near Jalan Davidson.

Despite its aging building, the interior of the restaurant still looks good. Never judge the book by its cover as we all went home with an extremely happy tummy.

We had the course meal which cost about RM 600 per table. Comes with a three dish combination, taufoo soup, pomfret fish, toasted garlic prawn, salad chicken, dual kai lan, fried rice, small pao as dessert as well as water chest nut tong sui.

The three dishes combo was unique. Comes with a crab filled paste and stuffed bean curd. The chicken salad was special too. Fried chicken with salad dressings and fruits, it was so good that we cleared the plate within minutes. Fried rice was a bit salty though but the pomfret fish makes up for it. With only RM 600, we are still able to have pomfret fish. Definitely worth the price. There was no fishy smell and the flesh was just nice, not too over cooked either.

Despite the old restaurant condition, it was full house last night. Definitely needs reservation before hand.
