Where Tradition Meets Modern  OK Dec 09, 2015
Share on TwitterShare on Facebook
Categories : Taiwanese | Stall / Warung | Porridge

Loving the tagline of the restaurant.
On days when I crave for a simpler and traditional meal, I’ll definitely head to I Love Yoo!
As they are newly opened in Sunway Putra Mall, we went there for lunch with my bunch of colleagues. There were few sets available depending on your choice. Set A comes with You Tiao and Porridge while Set B comes with You Tiao and Soya Bean instead. I had Set C which includes You Tiao, Porridge and Soya Bean. It cost me about RM 7.00.
Overall, the meal was considerably good as a healthier and lighter option. The you tiao was crispy making it the perfect combination for the porridge. Perhaps I was lucky, they gave me the dried oyster and peanut porridge without extra surcharge. I remember they did charge me back in their The Gardens Mall’s outlet. The soya bean was good too. Hot and filling for our tummy.
We also note that they do offer other choices on their menu now which includes Yong Tau Foo and Noodles. Perhaps we will revisit and try that some other day. Interior wise was simple, traditional with a modern twist. Service was fast, where we managed to buy and secure seats within minutes during lunch hour.

Penang Delights OK Dec 09, 2015

Categories : Malaysian variety | Restaurant | Noodles | Nasi Lemak

Craving food Penang food, we head straight to the Lorong Seratus Tahun located at the highest floor of the newly refurbished Sunway Putra Mall. Easily accessible via train, there is also a pedestrian street which connects the mall to the train station as well as the hotel located right opposite the mall.

The restaurant itself is part of the Selera Street vendors where you can find local Malaysian food such as the famous SS2 banana fritters, siput noodles, popiah and many more which I’ve yet to try. Perhaps another time.I ordered the Penang Prawn Mee Hoon this time around which cost me RM 11.60. But to my disappointment, they didn’t manage to get my order right. First they brought a curry noodle. The second time they brought a prawn mee instead of mee hoon. They managed to get my order right only on the third attempt. Luckily taste wise, they managed to cover up.

The soup is nice, flavourful enough but lacking in terms of the amount of prawns and fish cake slices. The prawn was really small and it was extremely thinly sliced. My friends had their char kuey teow. It was fragrant and the portion was just right. No complaints on that. Our bill came up to RM 40.00 for three pax.

Old but Gold OK Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Noodles

As the title goes, old but gold.

Esquire Kitchen has always been our favourite to-go restaurant for home style dinner especially during old times where they were lesser options for Chinese restaurants in the mall. We had their pork chop noodles as well as the signature Shanghainese Fried Dumplings.

Upholding the good name and the reputation of the restaurant, the noodles are still as good. The pork chop was moist, tender and juicy while the noodle comes with the perfect texture making it a comfortable meal especially on a rainy cold day.

The Shanghainese Fried Dumplings weren’t too bad either. Typically served with sliced ginger and vinegar, the layer was crispy on the outside with its juicy meat on the inside. We also ordered take away orders for their own made pastries.

We had the Santa Cake, a glutinous rice cake filled with creamy red bean paste as well as the wife biscuit. The glutinous rice was really chewy and the biscuit is still crunchy. It was really fresh as they baked their pastries freshly on a daily basis.

The restaurant interior may be a bit old, but the good food makes up for it. Service was relatively good.

Japanese Fusion Lunch  OK Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Japanese | Western variety | Restaurant | Pizza/Pasta | Seafood

Having tried their very first restaurant in Damansara Uptown, we were quite sceptical of the food here. Even though Fat Spoon is famous and can be quite crowded even on weekdays, we don’t find the food very fascinating for us to return for the second time. I guess it’s pretty much like the saying “one man’s meat is another man’s poison”.

And today we finally decided to give it a try. Their second branch in Desa Sri Hartamas. Tuck in the already crowded corner of Desa Sri Hartamas where parking might be a slight issue, it was a corner shop with no signage or billboard. Only when you alight right in front of the shop where one will notice the name “MEI” on their window.

The interior of the restaurant is quite different compared to Fat Spoon’s vintage theme. Simple, white and no frills kind of concept, it can be a nice place to chill on a weekend afternoon. We had the Ox Tongue Rice and Torched Salmon as well as the Hot Lemon Grass and Pandan for two. This time around, we enjoyed the food. The sliced ox tongue was just nice, thinly sliced with a bowl of piping hot rice. The top of the salmon was perfectly torched while the center was still a little raw, very much to our liking.

The only disappointment that we had this time around was the chocolate cake desert that we took away for a friend. For a price of RM15 per piece, we expected more than a tasteless cocoa-less cake.

Other than that, it was considerably a good experience. The staff was also being nice enough to lend us an umbrella since it rained heavily when we left. We will definitely come back for the other food on the menu.

Steamy Hot Pot OK Dec 07, 2015
Categories : Chinese | Restaurant | Steamboat/Hotpot

It was the perfect combination for a rainy Saturday. Steamy and piping hot soup to comfort the tummy.

Their signature broth is the coconut based broth where the name of the restaurant comes from, ‘Ye Zi’. According to the manager, 80% of the coconut based broth consist of coconut water making the soup too sweet which may not be acceptable to most Malaysians. Hence we ordered the imperial canton broth instead. At RM88, it includes half a chicken with cabbage and bacon.

And of course the food to not be missed, the pork slices, squid balls, noodles and eggs. We also ordered both their signature fish paste and coconut dumpling. We were quite impressed as they served the fish paste in a huge shell, considering the price tag RM18 it was quite worth the value. The coconut dumpling was quite interesting too. Coconut flesh and minced meat. Another surprise as it tastes pretty good.

They do serve their in-house Ye Zi dipping sauce as well. A combo of soy sauce, toasted ginger, lime and chilli padi. But some may give it a miss as not everyone is used to the taste of the toasted ginger.

Another plus point to note is the attentive staff at Ye Zi. They were doing quite a good job ensuring all our needs are met plus the awesome view of Bandar Utama, it was quite a pretty sight.

Some may find their price a little on the high side, but I guess once in a while is definitely worth it.
