Asam fish. Once I stepped into the shop, I saw some people already eating the asam fish, and it tempted me to order the same. Although it came in a boiling hot pot, but the aroma was not there, I did not smell the fragrance of asam much. The fish was quite fishy taste, not so fresh it seemed. The asam gravy was slightly sour and spicy but not heavy enough for my liking. The vegetables were fine though.
Stir fried potato leaves. Well, vegetables are always a must-order dish during a meal to balance up the nutrition of the whole meal. We ordered this stir fried potato leaves. This was just a simple dish that was cooked with garlic. With this, it gave the vegetables a bit garlicky taste but not too overpowering. The potato leaves were a bit tough though. Whole dish was not salty.
The waiter highly recommenede us to try their ambra juice and we ahead with his recommendation. The ambra juice is a fresh juice squeezed from a ambra fruit. The juice will taste sourish but a little bit of sugar will balanced the sourness. The juice has this lovely fresh green color. It is particularly nice to drink after a heavy meal. The juice is popular because it has lots of nutrients and help to ease digestion.
The stir fried egg plant was a lovely dish that we enjoyed very much. The dish looks a bit oily but that is due to the oil released from the egg plant. Therefore, the oiliness is considered healthy. The egg plants were soft and stir fried in a spicy bean paste. The spicy bean paste was very fragrant and there were dried shrimps in it. The dried shrimps were sweet. The egg plants absorbed all the spicy bean paste flavors.
Restaurant Paramount Seng Fatt is a local restaurant that we always visit. The food quality is good and priced reasonably. They are also famous for claypot fish head. There are a few types of cooking it and we ordered the Asam Fish Head. The asam taste was sourish and spicy. The asam gravy was so appetizing and goes well with the rice. The portion of the fish head was big and meaty. I love all the other vegetables in the claypot. The vegetables absorbed all the nice flavors from the asam.
The corner shop here is just opposite the Giant, serves pretty decent food at reasonable price. The salted egg fried squid was delicious. The squid was fresh and i like the springy texture. Nice to chew. The aroma of the salted egg yolk was unbeatable. The salted egg yolk in the batter has this slightly "sandy feeling". The batter was light, and well seasoned. The dish doesn't taste dry.
