When I went to order at the pan mee stall, I was surprised to see that it wasn't the same lady that was manning the stall. Nevertheless, I ordered. The pan mee wasn't as good as I remembered, although it was still pretty decent. The soup was nice, but lacked the anchovies and pork bone flavour, not as pungent as before. There were the usual fried anchovies, sweet potato leaves, minced meat and pork slices. There were also some additional pork and fish balls, which was a nice touch. The noodles were cooked well, full of mouth bounce. A decent meal for RM5.

We wanted to order something crunchy, so we settled with the deep-fried sotong. I thought that the sotong was slightly overfried, which makes it almost too hard to chew as it was too crunchy. One scraped against the roof of my mouth and left a slight bruise. It was also quite salty, especially when dipped with the Thai chilli sauce that was served together. Overall, not very recommended.

We wanted to have some steamed fish, and the waiter recommended us to try the chiu pai steamed tilapia, as he mentioned that the tilapia is very fresh. We decided to heed his advice, and order that. There were no fishy smell, as far as I can taste, which was good. There were lots of chopped garlic and bits of chillies on top, which complements the fish well. Medium-sized, the price tag came to RM26, which we think was quite reasonable.

Since it was late in the evening, there were some breeze and inside the restaurant wasn't very warm, which suited us just fine. We decided to order the shrimp paste fern, which is basically paku belacan. The belacan plus chillies that were added in made the vegetable extremely spicy, especially if you accidentally bit into one of the pieces of chilli. However, it was quite enjoyable as the paku is very fresh and crunchy. Priced at RM15, it was definitely well worth the amount paid.

According to brother-in-law, their tom yam soup is really spicy. Since the weather is so hot, we decided against tom yam soup, opting for lala in superior stock instead. It was a wise choice, as it tasted very delicious. The lala itself is of medium size, but the meat is reasonably sized. However, most of the lala meat came out from the shell, probably during cooking, so the meat are all hidden inside the soup. The soup is very ginger-y in flavour, and quite sweet from the lala stock. Brother-in-law suggested that we visit Restoran New Yew Sang for dinner. I was surprised to hear from him that this restaurant opens in the evening as I thought the stalls selling noodles and rice only opens during the day. However, it seems that there is a Thai-based dai chao stall that caters for dinner. The restaurant seating is ample, enough to fit about 60-70 people, however, the parking there is horrendous. There is literally no real parking space, hence we had to park behind people's shop

There is literally no real parking space, hence we had to park behind people's shop, risking summons. Nevertheless, we went, and the first dish that came was the hot plate tau foo. They used the Japanese tau foo which you can get from supermarkets, drenched in their oyster-based sauce with some minced meat and mixed vegetables in it. There is also a layer of egg at the bottom of the hot plate. Briny and delicious, this dish is great when eaten with rice as the gravy is plentiful. Priced at RM16, it is quite reasonable.

The dry butter squid in Restoran New Yew Sang is a must-try. The squid is firstly deep fried to golden perfection. Then the egg, curry leaves, sugar and salt is cooked until they become shred-like, crunchy and delicious. We had to wait a bit, presumably because they forgot our order. But good things come to those who wait. It was a perfect ending to a perfect meal.

The hot plate Japanese egg tau foo was so-so, nothing special at all. Thickly sliced Japanese tau foo deep fried to golden brown and served on a hot plate. The gravy had some minced pork in it, as well as some bits of peas, carrot and corn, presumably obtained from a frozen pack. The gravy is thick and flavourful, a good accompaniment to white rice. It would be better if they added an egg on top, just to give it a more egg-y flavour.

Normally this is not a dish that we would order. However, since we have a foreign tourist as part of the dinner guest, we decided to order this just in case he is not used to having spices in his food. For those who like their tomyam soup super spicy, this is the place for you. The tomyam soup is very mouthwatering, and you can taste that the soup is made from scratch, not from any powder or paste. The ingredients were ample. There were chunks of cauliflower, oyster mushrooms, chicken cubes, sotong as well as prawns. Not forgetting there were lots of onions too. Garnished with some coriander, the soup is a great complement to the rest of the dishes.

We were told by a colleague that Restoran New Yew Sang serves dai chao and a host of other Thai flavoured cuisines for dinner, after all the stalls are closed. The garlic and fish essence on the plate provided a good complement to rice.

At New Yew Sang coffee shop, i ordered the clear soup Pan Mee. The pan mee tasted average only. Personally, i think the soup was a bit too salty and lack of anchovies flavors. The soup should have a strong taste of the anchovies, but this one tasted mild and only more on the saltiness. The noodle was smooth but too thick. I don't like the way the anchovies were fried, not crunchy enough.
