Seri Kembangan is an area south of the Klang Valley that is very multicultural. A large part is covered by the Serdang New Village that features many delicious Chinese ‘Tai Chow’ stalls. On the other side of town, there are many middle-eastern restaurants thanks to the influx of students studying in nearby UPM and other colleges. There is also a healthy dose of delicious Indian, Mamak and other cuisine.
Here are just some of the interesting places to eat in Seri Kembangan:

Who says you have to go all the way to Puchong to get good Yong Tau Fu? Here in Seri Kembangan you can get equally good fried and soupy Yong Tau Fu pieces in this Chinese restaurant. The highlight of this place is their paper wrapped chicken or ‘chi pau kai’ which is stewed in a paper wrapping drenched in special sauce.
Hipster cafes are not common In Seri Kembangan, and this is one of the more underrated ones as they are quite new. However, they serve top quality food that is uniquely created by their resident chef. Try the special baked cheese rice and any of their Belgian waffle series which comes with a generous drizzling of whip cream and chocolate sauce, as well as cutesy little decorations.
One of the oldest and best steamboat and BBQ places in Serdang old village. For just RM30 per adult, you can enjoy and unlimited selection of food and endless drinks and ice-cream in this Chinese restaurant. However the highlight here is their seafood, featuring things like clams, cockles, crabs, fish, squid, prawns and many more which taste great when grilled in their generous pats of butter.
Possibly the best kept secret in Serdang, the 868 Mamak is arguably the most creative mamak in terms of their menu. The list of specialties here are endless if you visit, you’d like to start with their Roti Goreng, whereby they chop up roti canai and fry it like mamak noodles. For the more adventurous, try their Wan Tan Mee goreng mamak, and their aptly named Roti Diana.
Despite its name, this is actually a Chinese ‘Tai Chow’ stall famous for its signature dish, steamed fish with Brand’s chicken essence. They are also known for their special in-house tofu and pork rib dishes. They also serve extremely great seafood like steamed Haruan fish ( Sang Yue), cockles and even Kung Pao frog, which is definitely worth a try.
Taktaz is run by friendly Iranians who are warm and welcoming. If you are new to Persian cuisine, the waiters are more than happy to explain. They feature a daily buffet array for lunch and dinner, which functions like an economy rice stall and has several types of rice, meats and stewed vegetables to choose from. You can also order ala carte and we recommend appetizers like Hummus and Kashk O Bademjan, which are blended chickpeas and eggplants respectively, eaten with Persian bread.
This rather obscure place in Seri Kembangan serves a rather decent array of Thai food, if you’re in the mood for a spicy evening, literally! The highlight here has got to be their Tomyam, which is not too spicy and has a rich and full taste. Don’t miss out on the absolutely fabulous Banana Cheese Roll, crispy on the outside but oozing with warm and sweet banana goodness on the inside.
Ask anyone in Seri Kembangan where Wing Heong chicken rice is, and they will all know this Chinese restaurant. That’s how famous Wing Heong is and their claim to fame is their roasted meats like roast chicken, char siew, siu yok and roasted duck, served with fragrant chicken rice or plain white rice. Their other specialities are their double boiled soups and herbal chicken soup in a coconut. Also try their chilled tofu which is really incredible.
4. Legend’s Family Curry House
What’s better than briyani rice? The answer is claypot briyani! Legend’s is most famous for their Claypot briyani series for meat eaters as well as vegetarians and the sizzling claypot really brings out the flavour of the briyani rice. What’s even more delicious is that they provide cold raita to balance all the spiciness and a crunchy papadam to top it off. Apart from that, they serve other Indian dishes like Chappati, Thosai, Uttapam, Puri and many others. A great restaurant in Seri Kembangan to have breakfast on a weekday or weekend, they have all your usual dim sum favourites. Try their mini yam basket with pork ribs and glutinous rice ‘lor mai kai’ as well as their fried yam cakes. There are various pau here as well and porridge and chee cheong fun if you feel like having a light breakfast instead.Other Related Topics
