Service was unexpectedly fast. Decided to detour here after getting tau sa peah from Ghee Hiang. went for the non-spicy version of the char kuay teow and it came within 10 mins after ordering. and super suprised to see chinese sausages in it! Prawns were big, fresh and juicy. Love that it was fragrant and not the typical black CKT you always get in KL.

Kafe Heng Huat serves a variety of food which includes oyster omelette, fried kuew teow, popiah, and curry mee. Oyster OmeletteOyster omelette (o-chien) is one of my favourite. The omelette has a very strong egg flavour and it has a crispy texture at the side. The oyster is not that big but it is very juicy, sweet and most importantly fresh. It is best eaten with the chilli sauce which gives some soury taste to it.

Can see from the photo, the Char Kuey Teow is the normal one compare with others, but It's expensive compare with others stalls Char Kuey Teow. It cost RM8 per plate with 3 big prawns with hot spicy. The taste quite not bad and try their 'O Jian' too, it's nice, but the restaurant just too hot in the afternoon, big sun and need more water. One more thing is the parking problem, make sure u found a parking and do not park a wrong way to block people car.

at first D’s friend wanted to bring us to try Siam Road’s char koay teow. it’s fried by an old uncle using charcoal. i managed to watched him in action once, but too bad he ran out of koay teow that night, so i got char mee instead, had to share among three of us somemore, so cham. so i got really erratic when i thought i’m going to have a proper char koay teow from uncle, and damn uncle decided not to open his stall! what a bummer! and we left with 遗憾.

the next day, J’s friend brought us to Lorong Selamat’s! he said it’s berry really infamous one. tourist must try.

here’s two CKT stalls along Lorong Selamat, just in case you donno which one, spot this aunty with red beret. it’s her signature accessory. the local calls her 红帽阿姨. netizen calls her by grumpy old lady/eyebrow-tattoed bitch cos apparently this CKT stall is notorious for its price and BAAAD attitude.

at RM 7.50 for a small plate, it’s indeed pricey! but i also heard that, the prawn size is proportionate with the price. anyone one of you ordered RM 10 one before ar?

she used to be really grumpy , showing black face to the customers. during my visits (i went back few days later with another bunch of friends from Malacca!), i didn’t experience any inhospitable service, mainly because the lady next to her takes our orders, while the aunty just minds her business, tossing koay teow in the wok concentratedly, emotionlessly.

similar to the Siam Road’s, instead of gas stove, aunty uses charcoal in her cooking. the only difference is, uncle manually fan the charcoal to keep the fire going while aunty has a fan to do the job haha.

Lorong Selamat Char Koay Teow | RM 7.50

you’ll get a plate of CKT full of wok hei with chives, chinese sausage, cockles, egg, a handful of bean sprouts and 3 prawns!

the prawns here were slightly larger than ordinary CKT. and i have to say, yeah, it’s the best CKT i had in Penang so far. it’s of course oily (only my mami serves the uber dry CKT), but no as oily as Siam Road’s. since i only have CKT whenever i have friends in town, i won’t be too calculative with the calories intake. eat now diet later, my philosophy.

okay, so if you don’t mind waiting and paying more, i would suggest you to try Lorong Selamat char koay teow!

Ate their famous Char Kuey Teow there and it never let me dissapointed , its really different to those in Kuala Lumpur . They served the original recipe of Char Kuey Teow, no wonder Penang is the most famous destination for char Kuey Teow.

Their Char Kuey Teow's Kuey Teows noodles is very springy , their prawns is big and very fresh do't have the fishy smell at all, they also put with alot of beansprout which is my favourite and with the 'Kao Choi'(vege lookalike onion).Their colour is not those dark and cooked with alot of black sauce that you always find in Kuala Lumpur.

Though, its have a very limited space and crowded thou, but these places usually have the best food.

You must heard of people fried koay teow until need to wear goggles in penang. Yea, that's right. The aunty here wear a goggles to fried koay teow due to overwhelming char koay teow order. If she didn't wear goggles, I can't imagine what happen to her eyes. Must be well oily. Eating at here train your patience and manners. You need to be good to the aunty and wait patiently. The prawns are fresh which I quite like it.

As you can see from the picture, the prices range from RM7.50, RM8.00 and RM9.50. In order to make an order, we had to secure a table first, and inform them how many plates you want at whichever table number secured.

I was initially curious on how come there are 2 different cooks, and was worried if mine were cooked by the famous auntie herself. Turns out that the other cook only cooks the prawn, but the final frying is done by one person only.

Our orders came 2 by 2 (we ordered 6), the last one arriving around 20 minutes later. I have already expected to wait, given the notorious reputation of the auntie.

Surprisingly, we weren't ill treated or shouted at, nor did we hear anybody getting some bad service from the auntie.

When my char kuey teow arrived, I knew immediately that this will not disappoint, and I was right. I could smell the aroma from the dish, and from the very first bite, I could taste the 'wok hei' of the char kuay teow. It was cooked with such strong heat, but it wasn't anywhere near burnt. The cockles were juicy, plump and bursts inside your mouth unlike many which I have tried before. The beansprouts were fat and juicy and accompanied with spring onions.
Finally, the star of the dish were the 3 big prawns. Juicy and full of prawn taste and smell, it is the perfect compliment to the kuay teow.

This is without a doubt is the best char kuay teow I have ever tasted. I have tried many, especially in KL, but this stall is still the undisputed in my books.
It may be above priced, but this is what paying for quality means.

Rojak BUahLike any penang rojaks, its slightly different from the rojaks in KL or other states. The ones here uses lots of shrimp paste, with peanuts to give out a really nice taste. Throw in lots of fruits, assorted ones, fresh juicy ones, and you have this really nice and sweet rojak buah. Highly recommended if you are around the vicinity of Penang city. You can have it for tea breaks, or in between meals.
