Enjoyable night with a group of foodies at Songket Restaurant which is a very popular traditional Malay restaurant in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur city center. This hidden gem is along Jalan Yap Kwan Seng, opposite Megan Avenue 2. Songket Restaurant is celebrating their 4th Anniversary and launching their new menu. The meaning of Songket- is a fabric that belongs to the brocade family of textiles of Malaysia, Brunei, and Indonesia. It is hand-woven in silk or cotton, and intricately patterned with gold or silver threads.Songket Restaurant is nestled in a bungalow with 'Kampong' house setting, a very relaxing place to dine in with family and friends. They invited 100 persons to this event, giving us the buffet spread treat. There will be lucky draw session later on.Awards achieved displayed at the main entrance. Featured in TimeOut KL Food Awards, Malaysia Tatler Best Restaurant 2013 and Tourism Malaysia Tourism's Awatd 2013 (Best Malay Category). Songket Restaurant have indoor and outdoor seating arrangement. For outdoor seating, we can see the performance clearly while indoor seating is more comfortable with air conditioning area.Private VIP room for large crowd. The informal evening dinner starts with the speech and introducing their new menu. We proceed for the buffet 'free flow' with so many varieties of the local Asian food. There are choices of Nasi Kerabu, Nasi Minyak, and Nasi Putih. I prefer the Nasi Minyak, more fragrant, goes well with the creamy and spicy broth. Savour with the tantalizing dishes, Ikan Masak Lemak Tempoyak (my favourite), Ikan Lemak Asam Gelugur,Daging Salai Masak Lemak Cili Api,Baby Kailan Sos Tiram and the list goes on..Almost all dishes here are perfectly cooked with rich and creamy coconut milk with finest herbs and spices. Appetizing meal with quality ingredients that satisfy my palate. Moreover, i love Malay food since young and this place is truly an authentic Malay cuisine. Masak Lemak Ayam Nangka Ayam Rempah BertumisAromatic Rendang Kambing Udang Sos Mentega Sotong Goreng Kunyit Bubur Jagung, Assorted Malay Kuih and Pudding at the desserts counter. Ketayap Pandan is beautifully plated There are few new dishes on the menu for tonight's launching. The aim is to improve the food presentation and brand featuring more seafood items, thus customer can have more choices in the menu. Songket Restaurant introduced Chef Umar who has more than 10 years culinary experience and skilled with Malay, Western, Italian and Asian Cuisines. He will be exploring traditional flavours and new cooking method to enhance the exciting menu. The Durian Tiramisu is eye catching.. Ikan Senangin Masak Lemak Asam & Kambing Panggang Berempah Ikan Siakap Kukus Mangga Muda, My perception of the food -The moment I saw this dish could be spicy, adding on with sweet and sourness taste of the mangga muda, lime and tomatoes..The cultural dance starts at 8.30 - 9.15pm (Available Mon-Sun) .There are traditional dance performances of Chinese, Malay, Indian, and native origins. Starting with Songket Dance, Kuda Kepang Dance, Piring Dance, Chinese Fan Dance, Indian Dance, Sumazau Dance, Sumpit Dance & Bamboo Dance (Anggalang Manggunatip). Lively dance with graceful hand movements and smiles. I love this Bamboo dance, must follow their rhythm to successfully perform this dance. Admiring the cultural dance performances especially the last part when they sang the song' Rasa Sayang'. Rarely found such places and it's good to suggest to foreigners or relatives from far to come here to watch these traditional dance. The dancers will also asking around for some volunteers/ diners on the floor to join in the fun. Laughter and joy seeing them. The event ends with Cake Cutting Ceremony.Absolutely the ideal place for purely Malay cuisines and warm ambiance, with a touch of elegant setting. Songket Restaurant caters for Company Annual Dinner, Birthdays Gathering, Product Launch & Road Show, Wedding Packages, Cocktail,Private Lunch / Hi-Tea / Dinner as well. But they should improve their services here as from my dining experience today, i can only rate the service here as 6/10.Thanks Jackson from Nomsterads & Songket Restaurant for this invitation.Songket RestaurantNo. 29, Jalan Yap Kwan Seng,50450 Kuala Lumpur.(Ample of parking spaces.

This restaurant which is strategically located at Jalan Yap Kwan Seng is just a short distance from Kuala Lumpur City Centre (KLCC). The interior was nice, the wall was surrounding with tradisional songket. Since its a treats from my bos, so a chance to eat here is such a great experience for me. We ordered for Sup ekor, fried quill with herbs, and beef rendang to go with plain white rice. One food portion is enough for 3-4 person. Although the price is expensive, the taste of the food never fail me.
