Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant (已結業)

I was really excited to find chilli crab offered at the buffet. I even took two pieces as i know it goes finish very quickly. The chilli crabs were very big pieces and they were meaty. The down side is that the crab has been in the sauce for too long, the crabs became soggy. I think there was a light batter, the batter was soggy and i did not like it. Taste wise, i wished the sauce could be more spicy

This is the counter where you can make your own tom yam noodle. They provide all the ingredients such as different type of noodles, vegetables, and seafood. All you need to do is to picked and chose the ingredients, blanched the noodles yourself and add in the tom yam soup. Another side is the porridge section. That day it was serving chicken porridge. Other condiments for the porridge such as century egg, salted egg, preserved vegetables are all located next to the porridge.

For those craving for noodles, there are pasta, cold noodles and stir fried noodles available at the buffet line. The stir fried prawns in glass noodle is more of local flavors, with heavy spices such as garlic and chilli. The stir fried prawn in glass noodle seems to be quite popular, especially the prawns. Although the prawns were not particularly big, they were fresh and succulent.

Another nice dish from the chinese counter is the braised sea cucumber, fishmaw and mushroom. This dish is braised in a flavorful dark sauce. The sauce is thick. The sea cucumber was braised till very soft and tender. It melted in the mouth very quickly. The fishmaw was also good. Nicely prepared without any fishy taste. The chinese mushrooms were huge and absorbed all the flavors from the sauce.

Besides salmon fish, the buffet line offers other types of fish too. Here, you can find the steamed cod fish in soy sauce from the chinese food counter. The cod fish is definitely a popular fish among the chinese diners. Every time the waiter replenish the cod fish, it will be all grabbed quickly. The cod fish was still smooth and succulent and the soy sauce actually tasted slightly sweet.

The other favorite of mine is the chocolate cake. The chocolate cake was very rich in chocolate. The richness of the chocolate was so delicious that i also took more than a few pieces to slowly indulge it. The chocolate cake was not sweet and the taste of the cocoa was delicious. The chocolate cake was a little bit gluey, perhaps it's due to the rich chocolate. This is a pure chocolate cake, no creams in the cake.

The tiramisu here looks more like the rest of the cakes. But it is labelled as tiramisu and it does taste like tiramisu. I think the cake layer was the same as other cakes. The sponge cake was moist and buttery. The chocolate and coffee taste of the tiramisu was very nice. The mascarphone cheese was also present in the cake, it adds smoothness to the texture. Goes well with coffee or tea.

One of the cakes i really like is the green tea cake. First of all, the cake was moist with a little bit of fresh cream in between the cake layers. The top part has the green tea powder on it. The green tea powder was very refined and smooth. Love the aroma of the green tea in this cake. I took a few pieces of this cake and it goes well with tea or coffee. Not too sweet and everyone enjoyed this.

My favorite dessert is none the less, the ice cream. Even though they serve normal quality ice cream, i am still contented. I like that there were quite a few options of ice ceam. Here, there were sweet corn, chocolate, strawberry, chocolate with mint, yam, mango, green tea and melon. My preference are yam, sweet corn, green tea and chocolate. The ice cream queue can be long and need some patience.

Assortment of cakes are available at the dessert counter. Look, this one here is the strawberry flavored cake. I like that they have sliced the cake into smaller pieces, this can prevent people from wasting food and also keep the dessert counter looks clean and tidy. The strawberry cake has a aromatic strawberry fragrant, it was not too sweet. The cake was moist.

The lovely cup cakes was very eye catching. I saw many kids grabbing one of them. I also took one to try. The green color icing sugar was pretty, but too sweet for me. Love the chocolate chips though. The colorful chocolate chips were so pretty on the green icing sugar. Below the green icing sugar is the chocolate muffin. Again, the chocolate muffin was also too sweet. Maybe this should just stick to the kids.

Jelly egg is another type of jelly offered at the dessert counter. The striking yellowish jelly was not bad. I like the tranparent egg in the jelly. The jelly was not overly sweetened. The texture of the jelly was bouncy. I think the dessert was left on the buffet line too long, they slowly become watery. Perhaps keeping the jelly on some iced bowl could prevent this.

This dessert does remind me during schooling days, they sold this in the canteen and i always buy this to eat. The jelly cendol is made with the green color cendol and also coconut milk. The jelly cendol was not too sweet and the jelly was very bouncy. However, i think the jelly cendol lacked flavors. Perhaps a bit of pandan flavor will improve the overall flavors.

I came across these appetizers in this beautiful dish plate. Well, not excatly appetizers. But the dish plate here consists of braised mushrooms, baby sweet corns, white cabbage, bean curd skin and small oysters. I took a bit of everything and taste. The dishes are done in chinese style cooking with heavy usage of oyster sauce. The brasied chinese mushroom was soft and tender. The cabbage and bean curd skin also absorbed all the taste from the sauce.

There is also the action counter, the teppanyaki counter. Diners can picked all sort of ingredients such as chicken, beef, mushrooms, beansprouts, etc, and hand the ingredients to the chef. The chef will happily fired up your dishes, the teppanyaki style. The queue may get long, because the teppanyaki still takes some times to be prepared. The teppanyaki is usually stir fried and seasoned with salt, pepper, and soy sauce.
