Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant (已結業)

The buffet price also include the beverages. The choices of beverages can fit the requirement of everyone. There were juices, tea, coffee, cordial drinks, etc. The iced green tea was nice, not sweet and the green tea taste was good. The chrysanthemum drink was lightly sweetened. The peach iced lemon tea and the iced lemon tea were too sweet. The coffee machine makes excellent coffee.

The colourful grass jelly were available at the dessert counter. You can have the option to eat the grass jelly alone, or mixed them with other desserts. I saw people adding the colorful grass jelly to their ice cream. There was an ice shaving machine and people also add that colorful grass jelly into their shaved ice. The grass jelly were lightly sweetened and it is popular among the kids.

This is a traditional chinese dessert, the white fungus sea coconut. The white fungus sea coconut is boiled with Loh Hon Guo. The loh hon gua is a nice fruit that used widely in chinese dessert. The sea coconut was very nice because they were young, not the old sea coconuts. Young sea coconuts were tender and smooth. I also love the white fungus that was a bit crunchy. Not too sweet.

Flower mushroom is my favorite tempura. I always love mushrooms, be it deep fried, steamed, braised or stir fried. The tempura batter for the flower mushrooms were lighter than the other ingredients. Therfore, not so thick with flour. I love the non oily flower mushrooms. When i bite on the flower mushrooms, i can hear the crunchiness crisp sound. The flower mushroom was juicy.

Another popular dish from the tempura counter is the soft shell crabs. The soft shell crabs were deep fried in the batter. I don't quite like the tempura batter. In my opinion, it was too thick. The soft shell crabs were cut into smaller pieces. The soft shell crabs were not meaty. With the thick batter and the not so meaty crabs, i feel like i'm just eating deep fried flour.

The korean pancake was my first time try. The pancake looked quite nice. The savory pancake has lots of spring onions, carrots and other shredded vegetables in it. The pancake was however, too thick for my liking. The pancake was non oily and lightly seasoned. I think the thickness of the pancake will make a person become full stomach very quickly. I also think that if the pancake is pan fry longer, it will be more aromatic.

For the soup lovers, there were the kimchi soup and the seaweed soup. Personally, i prefer the seaweed soup more than the kimchi soup. I did not quite like the taste of the kimchi. The kimchi tasted overpowering and the pungent taste was a bit of put off. The kimchi soup was slightly spicy. Seaweed soup was a clear soup with lots of seaweed in it. I love the seaweed taste.

At the Korean food corner, there were the regular appetizer dishes you will normally find in the korean restaurants. This is the beansprouts. I quite like the beansprouts, although i would prefer the beansprouts to be bigger and fatter. This beansprouts is blanched and retained its crunchiness. They were also juicy. I like that there was no raw beansprouts taste.

Fresh oyster is available but you will need to order from the waiters. The oysters will then be brought to your table. There are two types of oyster you can order. This one here is the oysters with garlic and chilli. This is indeed my first time eating raw oyster with garlic and chilli. I love this version so much. The combination of garic and chilli was very good. The oysters were fresh.

The fresh salad counter is manned by a chef. There are a variety of salad you can order, such as mango salad, papaya salad, squid salad, etc. I picked the chicken feet salad as i really like this dish. This is a popular salad from Thailand. The chef blanched the chicken feet in boiling water and mixed in the onions, garlic, shilli padi, and the fish sauce. This is suppossed to be a cold salad but the chef blanched the chicken feet in boiling water and the dish was warm instead of cold.

For people who must have rice for dinner, not to worry. There is also fried rice served in the buffet. The crab meat fried rice was similar to the yong chao fried rice, but with additional crab meats in the fried rice. The fried rice was fluffy, every rice was coated with the egg batter. There were some vegetables such as the green peas, sweetcorns and carrots in the rice. The crab meat was fresh and sweet, but not a lot in the rice.

At the tempura section, you can find the popular prawn tempura. The tempura section is a busy station, the chef have to keep frying the ingredients because it seems that the crowd loves the tempura so much. The batter for the prawn tempura was slightly thicker than the way i like it. The prawn was medium size but fresh and springy. There were some light so sauce for the tempura dip.

At the snack counters, you will find a variety of deep fried snacks such as the deep fried salmon skin, the baby crabs and also the spicy chicken wings. The spicy chicken wings was a big disappoinment. The chicken wings were oily and the batter was too thick. The seasoning for the chicken wing was also disappointing. It says that this is a spicy chicken wing, but it doesn't taste spicy at all. In fact, it was salty.

I saw the buffet tray was loaded with these tiny baby crabs and i can't resists myself. I took a few of them. Although there are baby crabs, there were still quite big. Similar to the soft shell crabs, you can just eat the whole crabs. Don't worry about the shells, as they were edible. In fact, the baby crabs were deep fried till crispiness, it was a delicious snacks.

I quite like this snack. I have ordered this from the japanese restaurant before, and i am glad they serve this in the buffet. The salmon fish skin was deep fried to crispiness. The best part of it all is that the deep fried salmon skin was not oily at all. The skin was really crunchy and the batter was light. The salmon fish skin has minimal seasoning. The taste itself was good enough without additional sauce or dips.
