Mochi is yummy as usual, we ordered two plates and managed to eat a few flavours such as black sesame, peanuts, pandan and red beans. Black sesame is the best among all this flavours that we have tried.

As for the Salmon Mentai, I feel that the Salmon slice on it is too thin as I can barely taste it. All I can taste was the mayonnaise sauce.

They weren't kidding when they say Mini Ebi Tempura, the tempura was indeed tiny!

There was not much difference on the Futo Maki. The taste was as usual.

Fried Tori is bite sized fried chicken. The fried tori that we gotten was cold, it tasted like overnight KFC. It will probably taste better when its still warm or hot, but for now, its horrible.

So, we ate a total of 6 red plates (expecting 3 plates to be free). However, when we went to the cashier, we were charged at original price! The cahsier claimed that the promotion is over. If the promotion is over, why is there still flyers on the promotion?!

In short, I'm so disspointed with the service and the food here.

I wonder why food at Sakae Sushi always take a very long time to arrive and it is not like the food is that great to take such a long time.

We ordered the Soft Shell Crab Set which cost almost RM 30. It came with the soft shell crab which is soggy and not crispy as expected for most soft shell crabs. The crab dipped in the sticky thick sauce in the hot plate is not an ideal combination. The shitake and fake shark's fin chawanmushi was not bad. I felt that the rice was weird as it was a little hard.

The Sushi of the month which cost RM 1 instead of the original price of RM 5.99 was the best. It had raw salmon on top with tuna wrapped inside.

After the lunch, forgive me for being so direct and blunt but a true food blogger has to reveal the cold hard facts too. I felt cheated when the waiter said that I had only RM 9 inside my card instead of RM 30 plus like what he said last week. So I made a little fuss till they refunded me my promised RM 30 or else why would I come to Sakae Sushi after visiting this place last week?

I had always sang praises of Sakae Sushi because it is considerably cheaper than Sushi King and used to have more variety. Probably when you have become a member and dine here too frequently and the only change made is the monthly promotions, one day you getfed up? But I guess the service and efficiency is of utmost importance in an restaurant.

To be fair, I would say you still can come here but only try the monthly promotions with the member card otherwise it is not worth the price.

I do not really like the bonus points because it is just tp encourage one to use it the next time round, that means frequenting the restaurant more hence generating more sales.

As usual, I ordered the Monthly Promotion which was the Mango Sushi roll with fried soft shell ebi and also fresh raw ebi. The mango was sweet enough to add the taste to this (RM 13.80 Member Price or RM 15.80 Non-Member price). This is the best so far.

I also ordered the Maguro Sushi and also Salmon Sushi (RM 3.99 each) which was a buy-one-free one deal due to Citibank promo.

The Tobikko Gunkan (Fish Roe) was quite ok for only RM 1 member price.

The tempura soba was the worst of the lot. I have never eaten such a terrible tempura in my entire life. The tempura paste was coated properly to cover the entire prawn and the outcome was the bit and pieces of tempura flour all over the prawn. This is like the cheap Japanese food I had at Gardens Mid Valley food court. It was a total disappointment that I gave my feedback to the waiter. He said I should have informed them before paying the bill so they can change another one for me. I told him I was worried that the cook would split saliva into it if I asked for a change after complaining. I had a stomachache and went to the washroom after that. The cha soba was not bad but the portion was too little and not worth the RM 18.90 paid. The mushroom was not properly separated instead the lazy chef just dumped the mushrooms with their roots still intact and connected.

The Bacon with Asparagus was badly made as the bacon was overboiled though it was supposed to be crispy. The cook was too lazy to clean the asparagus properly and cut away all those fibre inside. And to think that I wasted RM 15.90 for this!

The Grilled Salmon sushi with some filling inside and some fish roe on top was just normal.

Sakae Sushi quality and variety is slowly depleting and I still prefer to eat the much more affordable and tastier sushi at Makiya Sushi, Setia Walk.

My friend ordered the Haru Teishuku which was quite worth the RM 25.90 price tag as it came with Salmon with Teriyaki sauce and also chicken teriyaki. The grilled salmon was nicely thinly sliced, and just nice and juicy. The teriyaki chicken was so succulent and juicy where the juice came out on the plate. There was also miso soup, mushroom chawanmushi and white sushi rice. In fact, my friend enjoyed the meal so much that he ordered an extra bowl of rice which cost RM 3.

As usual, I ordered my favourite monthly specials. The Salmon Natsu Itame was actually stir-fried small pieces of salmon cooked, atop vcery thinly sliced eggplant and placed on french type of crackers. Teh result was quite amazing.

The winner was definitely the Fruity Salmon Maki, which I believe, is the best of monthly specials at Sakae Sushi which I have tried so far. The wondrous fusion of the strawberry slice with juicy fresh avocado and fish roe has infused the sweetness of those fruits into the raw salmon. The result? The most amazing marriage of fruits and salmon. It was like the Garden of Eden.

Since I am a member, I could eat the monthly member's sushi promo for only RM 1 and this month's happen to be Honey Ebi which was actually big dried shrimps fried with honey.

I have always liked edemame, and I usually buy the frozen ones from the supermarket and boil it myself. Since I have a hankering for some, I decided to pick a plate of edemame which was passing by me in the conveyor belt. Probably the edemame has been on the conveyor for quite some time, so it was already cold, not the piping hot ones that I am used to, but it was still OK. Every piece of edemame has about 3 or 4 pieces of beans in it. It is slightly salted to give it a bit of flavour. Quite nic

Wifey wanted something with mouth-crunch, so we decided to order the ebi tempura, essentially deep fried prawns. The prawns were rolled in batter before being put in the hot oil. The prawns were fresh and juicy. The tail of the prawn was still intact, but the entire prawn was so well fried that we crunched up the prawn tails as well. Priced at RM16.90 for four pieces, it was slightly expensive, but still an OK price to pay.

Our first dish that we plucked out from the conveyor belt was the ebi maki. Every piece of rice had half a slice of prawn rested on it, keep stable by some mayonnaise sauce. The rice itself was rolled in prawn eggs, crunchy and salty. The ingredients include bits of snow crab and crunchy eel skin. Priced at RM8 per set of three pieces, it was well worth the amount paid.

Well chilled and full of green tea flavour, it was also refillable. If we were to order the hot one, a cup with a green tea sachet would be provided, and the hot water is obtainable from the tap on the wall, and this is available at every table. Refreshing and light, it cleanses the palate for every mouthful of food.

At that point, cleanliness would be a plus point factor and comfort would be another which would add to the decision making when selecting a place for sushi or japanese food. The seats used to be uncomfortable at a point because the cushions started wearing off after some time. The new renovation not too long ago got them replacing all the cushions with wooded seats so that way, it'll last and customers seemed to take it pretty well. At this stage, it is important that they maintain the good quality and improve on the hygiene. We do not want to repeat the roach incident. The all time comforting dish for children is always the chawanmushi and here in sakae, they serve pretty decent steamed egg.

If you are watching your diet, there is always something for everyone here. Try some salad or just something with more vegetables in it. The hand rolls are always my top choices. Or order something fresh from the kitchen instead of picking from the rotating belt. Especially when selecting anything with seaweed wrap. The roasted seaweed remains crispy when served and consumed fresh.

Beside this, Sakae also offers a fuss free 3-tier pricing system. With green plates going for merely RM1.90 and premium red plates at RM5.90. We have ordered Curry Katsu Don and Chicken Teriyaki Ramen. The Curry Katsu Don is not so spicy and it came with lots of potatoes. The Chicken Teriyaki Ramen is quite pleasing and satisfying. The Chicken is tender and not too soggy despite mixed with the soup. The sushi we ordered have not much to shout about, but with CITIBANK credit card, you can get "buy 1 free 1 promotion".

Chuka Lidako Sushi. Normally I will just order chuka lidako as one plate by itself as it will have more pieces. However, that day, I decided to try the sushi version. Although the sushi was not big, it was topped with a lot of chuka lidako (baby octopus). I love the sweetness exhibited from the seasonings. The baby octopuses were springy and very nice to chew. The coating was just nice.
