Having this dessert made me realize that the chef here is very big on using coconut milk as most dishes I tried out has coconut milk in it. The dessert above is the banana in coconut milk. The bananas are soft and mushy while the coconut milk was thick and had a syrupy texture. The banana was sweet and went well with the coconut milk.

There dessert menu for the weekend lunch buffet is just too sparse and random. Maaybe the management should add in more authentic Thai desserts into it. The picture above is the steamed tapioca in coconut milk. The coconut milk is cooked until it has a thick gooey texture and it tasted very sweet. The steamed tapioca still has a little crunch on it but by the time I ate this dessert I was very full from the other dishes so I did not enjoy it very much.

For a place that serves up the most authentic Thai dishes, their dessert sure fall short of the mark. The only dessert I could find on the menu that is from Thailand is the red ruby. The water chestnut has a layer of red gelatinous coating over it and it gives off a crunchy aftertaste. The coconut milk was watered down with ice which makes it kinda of bland.

I would not recommend ordering this dish. Its from the salad menu in the weekend lunch buffet. On the menu it is written, fried catfish with sliced mango sauce. After poking around, I could not find a single piece of catfish in the mountain of fried bits. The fried bits tasted like fish though but not in a good way as it did not taste fresh and had the muddy flavor in it.

This dish tasted more traditional chinese rather than Thai. It is chicken strips stir fried in garlic and chili. The garlic is quite strong as it overpowers the other taste in the dish such as chili and the other spices. As usual, the tender chicken strips soak up the sauce.

The picture above is the combination of chicken stir fried with dried chili and cashew nuts. The nuts give off a fragrant aroma when stir fried with the chili and it was not really spicy but sort of sweet spicy balanced off by the nuttiness of the cashew nuts. The chicken strips were tender and flavorful.

This dish can be found in the rice menu of the weekend buffet. Its the Rama V signature fried rice. The shrimps used in the cooking is as large as my fingers and juicy as well. The rice was fluffy and it was not as oily as expected. The dish is large enough for four with a bowl for each person.

Every weekend, Rama V has a lunch buffet where the alcohol and drink are free flow. The menu selection is quite vast and this is one of the dishes that we ordered. It is fish fillets fried till crisp and then drenched with a three combination chili sauce. It has the semblance of chinese sweet and sour pork but the sauce is much more spicier and leaves a tangy aftertaste.

The first time I had tom ka kai, it was in a coconut shell bowl and it was tasty and I was expecting the same delicious taste when I ordered it from Rama V. The aroma of the coconut milk was what I smell when this was served. It was not really spicy but every spoonful makes you wanna have more of it and the chicken strips were tender and absorbed most of the spiciness of the soup.

This was one of my orders during my visit to Rama V. Its called the gaeng ka ree kai which is basically yellow chicken curry with sweet potato served in a claypot. The extra santan gives it a fragrant aroma when served. The curry was not really spicy but flavorful as it combines the spices and the sweetness of the sweet potato. This dish is best served with rice.

Rama V serves Thai food that is as close to the authentic one's you can get from Thailand. The mieang kam is the traditional thai hons' doeuvre. You grab a daun kaduk and piled on the seven different ingredients on it. The pepper paste is used as a base and spread on the leaf before piling on the ingredients and rolling it up. The dried shrip gives it a salty aftertaste which lingers in the mouth.

Hidden behind the US embassy is this quaint little restaurant selling authentic Thai food. The are lots of diplomats who drop by here every now and then for the food served here. One of my favourite food here is the chor ladda, it is shaped in a flower dumpling and each serving has six little dumplings. The skin of the dumpling is made of yam and flour which gives it a chewy sensation and the inside of the chor ladda is minced chicken with peanuts. The peanuts give it a distinctive taste and cru

This tom yam chicken is not very sourish nor spicy dish. The soup comes with red colour oil. But that doesn't mean it is spicy. The soup actually has some coconut fragrance in it. I like to enjoy such a nice dish in such a cozy environment. It makes me really can enjoy the food to the max.

When you order the fruit from the menu, it takes them awhile to serve you. They put the effort to carved the fruits nicely then only present to you. But then for me I don't think the fruits worth the waiting. First of all, none of the fruits taste sweet. he papaya, watermelon, honeydew all tasteless. So I don't think next time I will order the same thing again.
