The mains are pretty interesting, there is a fusion range of western and local delights. The rice ranges are creatively amazing and mesmerizing. Simple dishes like nasi lemak can surprisingly be made to serve beautifully and presentably. We arrived at just about the same time and got a tad lost because we didn’t know where PickNik was located exactly. It’s probably more difficult for patrons new to the Publika establishment (like me) to locate this cafe off-hand.But after making a quick phone call to PickNik, we landed ourselves there in no time!They chose this restaurant as Chef Nik Michael Imran is the mastermind behind it.If that name doesn’t ring a bell, he’s one of the finalists from MasterChef Malaysia Season 1, and has since opened his own outlet!Without waiting long, the dishes began arriving our table consecutively. We ordered lots of tapas for sharing!Here’s what we had for the nighteep Fried Squid. Battered squid fried to golden brown served with wasabi mayo. Yum!Sauteed Mushrooms. Button mushrooms sauteed in butter and herb. Yum!Nachos. Tortilla chips served in guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and minced beef tomato salsa.It was delicious, with a good variety of toppings/sauces. But the portion of tortilla chips was ridiculously meagre.In the end, we were left with lots of toppings with nothing to dip it with.Soft Shell Crab deep fried with wasabi mayo.Papardelle Bolognese. It would be great to end our meals with some desserts too. The plates of sweet bites to indulge is something not to be missed in Picknik. We had three of the delicious signature desserts in our plate in petite version.Peanut Butter Slice with Nuts is simply a delights not to be missed with the peanut butter and cream cheese on a biscuit crust. Served with chocolate sauce. But really, all you need to know is this dish has peanut butter! This is sinfully delicious and it is just melts in my mouth easily with the sweet peanut butter with it.Price: RM 8.00Peach Apple Cobble is is the sorta like a pie but without the lower crust. Definitely a dessert but without all the fuss at all. The Peach Apple Cobble is is simply lovely and good where every bites of it, you may taste the fresh ingredients in it.Price: RM7; with vanilla ice cream RM9Salted Caramel Brownie is a heavenly and I am just falling in love with the it as well as the caramel is well blend with the brownies creating a sweet and salty match which is just wonderful.Price: RM12 繼續閱讀

An inherited passion for the kitchen runs through Nik Michael Imran's veins; the affable, twentysomething chef embarked on his first restaurant this week, following his father's footsteps & signaling the potential start of a culinary dynasty.Nik has been cooking since he was nine, compiling a treasure trove of family recipes like the honey mustard dressing that supplies extra spark to one of PickNik's signature salads, a mix of peppery watercress with sweet pears, strawberries & almond flakes.Sure, there's no shortage of cafes at Solaris Dutamas, but PickNik is one of this complex's most wallet-friendly; a warm, nourishing bowl of stracciatella, the rarely seen Italian chicken consomme with ribbons of egg white, croutons, parsley & parmesan, clocks in at a mere RM7Nik & his father, who once ran a Brisbane outlet, can sometimes be spotted working side-by-side in PickNik's open kitchen. Here's one of Dad's creations: sesame-crumbed Fat Tuesday chicken, stuffed with scarcely cooked prawns & served with rice & bearnaise sauce.And if Nik's name rings a bell, it might be from his stint on Masterchef Malaysia's first season, following which he has amassed more than 13,000 Facebook fans.PickNik's pastry chef extraordinaire is Azlina Shah Shaharuddin, one of Nik's Masterchef friends, who whips up beauties like this moist, sweetly rich brownie, soaked in salted caramel & topped with more than a dollop of vanilla ice cream.Peanut butter alert! This stunningly soft & smooth blend of peanut butter with cream cheese on a biscuit crust delivers ripples of sheer pleasure.Red velvet slices to wrap up a satisfying treat at what is being branded "a comfort food cafe."
