Sirap Ais. Since the first time I tried this Penang Street Kopitiam, it was an average kopitiam I would say. I decided to give a second try to this shop so that I can try other things. So, there we went again to try out this shop. The sirap ais was my standard order in kopitiam or mamak. This kopitiam sirap ais was sweet and quite thick, full of rose syrup flavour and not bad.

Spaghetti in tomato crab sauce. My dining partner was really adventurous that afternoon and he ordered this crab spaghetti. When it arrived, the size of the crab shocked me as it was quite big! The spaghetti texture was normal and the tomato sauce was quite tomato-ish, slightly sour. The crab was fresh and quite meaty. Since we were not given "hammer" or open it, we had to use the fork and spoon to open it, which made the dining quite difficult.

Nasi Lemak sotong and ayam. The nasilemak was served with peanuts, anchovies, hard boiled egg and cucumber. The sambalsotong was served cold as it was prepared earlier and left in the counter. The chicken was being deep fried upon order. Half way eating the sambalsotong, we noticed a dead fly on top and requested the waiter to change a new one, the waiter apologized to us. The fried chicken was marinated well and slightly salty.

ABC Special. This version has a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of it. The portion was big and it contained black jelly, corn and red beans. The ice portion was big as a mountain and the ingredients were a lot too. I like the corn, moist but some of the corns were very hard. The brown sugar and pink syrup were a lot and it made the ABC very sweet, which was fine with me. The ice cream added some milky texture to the ABC.

French fries. I was not feeling hungry during lunch time as I had a heavy breakfast in the morning. So, I ordered a basket of fries. The fries were thinly cut and were deep fried. Some of the fries were deep fried nicely, but some were over-fried where it became dark color and quite hard. The nice ones were crispy. Overall, it was very oily and I only ate three quarter of the fries and felt muak.

Fried fuchuk. When this dish was served, I look at it and it doesn’t look like the typical fuchuk. It has a coating on top which I could not determine what it was made off. The skin was not crispy at all, it was like being fried in a frozen manner. The inner fillings had fake crab stick and fish paste. The fish paste was soft and quite fishy taste. I do not like this side dish.

Again, i can't expect the food quality here to be the same as like the food in Penang. I am really disappointed for most of the so called penang food, which were not authentic at all. The fried kuey teow was nothing to shout about. The taste was normal, i think many places serve better char kuey teow. I didn't like that the way the kuey teow were fried, the kuey teow were all stuck together like a lump. Taste wise, i think the heavy seasoning doesn't help.

Curry Mee from Penang Street Kopitiam is a big disappointment. Do not expect that they serve authentic curry mee, the curry mee here is just the same as the klang valley curry mee. There is a huge difference between penang curry mee and our local klang valley curry mee. I hate it when food establishments misused the word "penang". The curry mee was just normal, with rich coconut milk and not very spicy.

Fried mee Hoon Singapore is definitely not a Penang dish, i am not even sure if it was originated from Singapore. Anyway, fried mee hon Singapore style is just normal. i think many places such as the "dai chao" place could do better than this one here. The Singapore fried mee hoon has fish cakes, egg, beansprouts, shrimps and garlic. Taste wise, i think it was quite bland.

My mom loves to eat the kerang, or known as the cockles. Her choice of nasi lemak was with sambal kerang and ayam berempah. The added sambal kerang is additional RM2.00. I think the price is very reasonable as the amount of cockles given were quite a lot. The cockles were very fresh, not over cooked. However, it was still the sambal that was a bit disappointing. The sambal need to be spiced up.

Penang Street Kopitiam is a cafe selling popular penang dishes. The one that caught my attention is the nasi lemak ayam berempah that comes with sambal sotong. I really love the huge piece of chicken leg. The chicken was fragrant and can taste the spices. However, the chicken leg is a bit oily. The sambal sotong was normal. The sambal was not spicy enough for me.

Nasi Lemak Ayam Rempah & sambal sotong. This dish came with a piece of chicken drumstick, sambal sotong, sambal, egg, nuts and anchovies. The rice was steamed with pandan leaf and lemak and it was so fragrant. The fried chicken was a big piece and the coating was crispy, slightly salty. I love the crunchy bits layered on top of the chicken. The chicken was tender. The sambal sotong was slightly spicy, the sotong was springy, slightly fishy taste.
