Porky sausages

When we paid El Cerdo a visit, we actually were not looking for something porky, but ended up there anyway. We realized all too late that El Cerdo takes its pork very seriously, because there was no chicken or beef in the menu! That didn't stop me from having my favourite sausages though - a platter of 4 mini yet meaty beauties consisting of Farmer, Thuringer, German Pepper & Spicy Lyonner sausages, accompanied with a bed of sauerkraut (RM 24.50). That didn't stop me from having my favourite sausages though - a platter of 4 mini yet meaty beauties consisting of Farmer, Thuringer, German Pepper & Spicy Lyonner sausages, accompanied with a bed of sauerkraut (RM 24.50). The sausages were each distinct in their own tastes, but each had strong pork flavours. The sauerkraut was excellent; I usually don't fancy sauerkraut, but I ate quite a lot of it too. All I can say is I wish there was some mash potato as well...hehe.

Farmer, Thuringer, German Pepper & Spicy Lyonner
All four type of pork sausages in different type of marination, it is chewy and juicy when it is inside your mouth. A very excellent plate starter and it define the urge of one's to enjoy more pork cuisine in the restaurant.

Shoulder steak

The warm lighting and environment here makes a good place for dates, family dinners and gatherings.To start our meal, we had bread soup in a tea cup and Sangria. Both were pleasant.For my main course, I got myself a shoulder steak, recommended by the waitress as I couldn't decide on what to order at all! It comes with salad, mashed potato and it's own sauce. Very delicious! I don't particularly like beef steak but pork steak is definitely good. I would recommend this dish.

 For my main course, I got myself a shoulder steak, recommended by the waitress as I couldn't decide on what to order at all! It comes with salad, mashed potato and it's own sauce. Very delicious! I don't particularly like beef steak but pork steak is definitely good. I would recommend this dish.

 Complimentary bread and pig liver pate

Most of my colleagues did not dare to try when they heard it was make from pig liver. This doesn't stop me from trying. I just love any part inside the pig. It taste quite nice actually with the combination of bread. But if you just take it directly put into your mouth, it has very strong smell of meat. I suggest take the pig liver pate with the bread, it is really nice.

 Spanish Ham Platter for two to three persons
Assortment of Jamon Serrano and Jamon Iberico with a Variety of Chorizo Sausages and Condiments

All the ham served were a bit salty although it looks delicious. Everyone just could not finish it because it just make everyone drink a lot of water when trying to eat it. Over marinated the ham or maybe it is just the way like that The potion was really big where they separated into 2 plate for us, enough for 10 persons.

 El Cerdo Sausage Platter
This is the best dish I taste so far. I love it. The sausages taste great with the Sauerkraut (sour cabbage) and Mashed Potato. I love the Sauerkraut as it doesn't taste that sour and a good combination with the sausages. The home-made sausages taste really nice. So far this is the one that make me want for more. Must Try!

Probably one of the most ingenious dining gimmicks is still a tradition at El Cerdo - the use-blunt-plate-to-chop-tender-suckling-pig-and-then-break-plate-in-big-wooden-bucket!  The choice of sausages might have been a toss up, but the pork ribs was a definite choice! Our decision was between the Oven Roasted BBQ Glazed Ribs and the Smoky Whiskey Ribs, but we finally settled on the Oven Roasted BBQ Glazed Ribs (RM 65) at our friendly waiter's recommendation.

Many new pork places have sprung up in 2011, but these ribs are the perfect example of why El Cerdo still keeps the customers coming back for more; with more than enough to feed 2, even we couldn't finish that plate of ribs. Each piece was tender and very well marinated, although we did feel really overpowered by the glaze towards the end. Thankfully, the stuffed tomatoes were an excellent addition to balance out the strong, flavoursome pork, and this still ranks as some of the best ribs we've had all year.

 Besides El Cerdo's menu, you can also order items off El Cerdito's menu, which is the little brother of El Cerdo next door which does tapas. To add a bit of variety into the meal, we ordered the Champinones al Ajillo (RM 12) which is a classic Spanish tapa of mushrooms sauteed with garlic and olive oil. These were also very well prepared, the perfect juicy yet tasty side dish to munch with the main meal.. =D

 This was also a new dessert for us and one we enjoyed thoroughly. The Andreas Special turned out to be layers of various textures and tastes beginning with cooked pear soaked in musky red wine at the bottom, creamy vanilla ice cream, followed by bananas in a tart passion fruit sauce. All this was topped with a rich, dense milk chocolate mousse and crunchy chocolate crumble bits. Definitely a marriage of flavours to remember!
