Since we had expensive lunch this afternoon, dinner was a little toned down. We happened to come to Sunway Pyramid for shopping so I thought of revisiting this cafe with a/c and quite affordable food. For the first time in my life, we had Bak Kut Teh (RM 12) and Curry Fish Head (RM 16) at the same time. Therefore, I actually separated my rice into two bowls so that I can eat with curry and bak kut teh soup. The taste of the Bak Kut Teh was not strong enough and was too diluted. I preferred it with strong herbal taste. The boss is quite stingy as there were only 3 small pieces of pork (pai kut), pork leg (a snippet). We even had to pay extra cost for the Yao Ma vegetables! Even the tissue paper cost us additional cost, which is ridiculous. There were only 3 tiny pieces of fish head cutlets, ladies fingers, long beans, tofu pok in the curry. The curry is thankfully less diluted and less oily compared to the ones outside. The whole meal cost us RM 42, still ok for a/c place compared to paying the same price to eat in a hot coffee shop.  continue reading

This is one of my favourite places to satisfy my bak kut teh cravings. Air conditioned environment and not so oily bak kut teh, my mum is one of their biggest fan too My family insist on having less oily bak kut teh due to health reasons, Restoran Grandpa fulfils our requirement. For value for money meals, we usually order the set meal for 4-5 persons, which is just nice for our appetite and tummy. It consists of bak kut teh, taupok, braised pork in black sauce, dried vege, yau char kwai, rice and chinese tea.The bak kut teh broth has a nice aroma and flavour from the various herbs used, not too bland nor overpowering. We opted for lean meat in this dish, which is nicely cooked and tender. There were other ingredients inside such as button mushrooms and chinese mushrooms. Overall it was a wholesome meal. continue reading
