Shabu-shabu

It was a few weeks ago when I was given a privilege to try out the Nagomi Shabu-Shabu Buffet which is newly launched by Nagomi Japanese Restaurant which is located at Menara Hap Seng in Kuala Lumpur. Some of you might not be familiar with the term 'shabu-shabu' so let me briefly tell you what it is all about. Shabu-shabu, syabu-syabu, hot pot or also known as steamboat a way of cooking your own fresh food in a big pot of hot soup. What's so different about this Japanese variation of the hot pot compared to the one we normally had in a Chinese hot pot restaurant is that each customers will get their own hot pot for preference and also hygiene purposes I supposed. If you do not eat lamb or any other meat/seafood, you can choose not to dump it into the hot pot. You can dump in anything or whatever you want! That's the best thing to experience when you are having shabu-shabu.My selection of food of the evening...There's a wide range of fresh food from vegetables, mushrooms, tofu, meat, seafood, noodles to even assorted type of sushi and fried food for those who want to have a quick bite while waiting for their food to cook in the hot pot. Different type of sauces are being provided to suit the taste bud of every single customer who are dining in this restaurant. They also serve Norwegian Salmon but it's limited! So act fast when they are serving it! On the top left side is the lamb, beef and assorted fresh food. What I can say is that they have quite a wide range of fresh seafood and the restaurant is pretty comfortable but it will be good if they provide bigger plates for the customer to take the food and also ice-cream is a plus as dessert. RM32.80++ per head. continue reading

First time went for a shabu-shabu buffet as Nagomi is having a special deal promo at only RM32.80.The restaurant there is comfy and the warm lights makes the atmosphere romantic. hahaEach person will have their own individual pot and self-adjust speed of 1 to 3 at the table side. Its extremely easy. The food corner is a L-shape full with over 80 varieties of fresh meat, sushi, sashimi, seafood, noodles, deep fried items, vegetables, desserts, fruits etc by their Head Chef, Jack Chan. All the sliced meat (chicken, duck, beef, lamb) are well-prepared at the sushi bar counter. I love the beef and lamb most !Live Australian Yabby Lobster. ------ Seasonal Item. There are also Slipper Lobster serve daily.Assorted seafood: Half Shell Scallop, Oyster, Mussel, Bamboo Clam, Flower Crab, Tiger Prawn, White Clam etc. Assorted fish ball, fish paste, crab stick etc at the opposite.Assorted Vegetables and Mushrooms corner.A special session at 8 - 9pm, there will be Salmon Sashimi served at the sushi bar counter. I can feel the salmon freshness and the lining of the salmon is beautiful. If you don't eat raw, can put into the hot pot for 2 seconds and it will taste great too. This is a corner that seldom seen in most Buffet restaurant. --- Assorted of sauce for your shabu-shabu!! You will have the Nagomi soup as base and also 3 extra soup paste to add on. (Kimchi paste, Ginger paste and Spicy Miso Toban paste)I just pick a few sauces as there are too many different dressing and sauces such as Ponzu (Japanese Vinegar), Goma Sauce (Sesame), Thai Chili Sauce, Nyonya Sauce, Wafu Dressing (Japanese Vinaigrette), Shoyu Dressing (Soy bean based dressing) and Kyuri Dressing (Cucumber based dressing). My favourite of the night - Live Aus Yabby Lobster.Check out this Mr. Red after cooked !!The Yabby Lobster meat is so sweet and fresh !!! Although its small, the meat are thick in it.No joke, the food are fresh even the prawns are so sweet n juicy too. continue reading

Nagomi Shabu-Shabu is one of the Japanese restaurant that serves Shabu-Shabu, literally means ‘swish-swish’ where its name is derived from the "swish swish" sound of cooking the meat in the pot. Shabu-shabu (しゃぶしゃぶ ) is a Japanese variant of hot pot. The dish is related to sukiyaki in style, in that both use thinly sliced meat and vegetables and are usually served with dipping sauces, but it is considered to be more savory and less sweet than sukiyaki.the shabu shabu here is indeed fresh and you can have a try on the soup there. There is a variety of food to dine with and the overall food is good and fresh. the soup is simply flavorful as well. continue reading

More often than that, I was turned down by most of the steamboat restaurants with warm, stuffy ambience which made me sweating and feeling sticky after a no-matter-how-delicious-it-is meal. But, Nagomi now gives me a total different perception towards steamboat! It can be clean and tidy; and I can sit as long as I want to enjoy the heavenly foodstuff. The seafood here is very fresh. Best to have it in miso soup, or cleap soup to reveal its freshness. You can eat all the sushi you want. I am a sushi lover and I dont mind eating few more pieces of the healthy Japanese food while waiting for my food to be cooked in the hot steamboat pot. There are few desserts served in the buffet line, but most of it do not match with the steamboat so I didnt take much from this.Overall, it's a great dining experience with friends. continue reading
