We decided to eat here because a friend said it served good food. We sat down, and after ordering our starters and mains and a bottle of wine, my mother asked why they didn't serve us the complimentary bread that is usual in Italian restaurants. I had to ask the staff, and then finally he brought over a basket of bread with 4 slices of bread. Then my mother asked, where is the oil? The first staff didn't even answer and walked off. The second one, a girl, said We serve it separately! So then my mom had to ask again and finally we were given a bottle of olive oil and vinaigrette, with no plate even to pour it in. So we used our own serving platesWow, that was the hardest I've ever tried for some bread. The food is okay, quite tasty. Prices very reasonable and portions large. However midway through my meal, I noticed your staff had dropped a serviette (yeah no cloth Napkins here. Serviettes only)None of the staff picked it up. It was on the floor in the middle of the restaurant. Different staff had passed it at least 8 times before someone decided to clear it, that also with her foot and she dragged it away. It was weird. We also were not offered any water at all. Sigh. Probably our last time here. continue reading

The restaurant: Ristorante Porto Romano is a hidden gem of Italian cuisine located within Intermark Mall. Environment/interior-decor: Elegant and comfortable.Menu: A variety of Italian dishes. Many of which are crowd favorites ~! An extensive list of wines, beers, cocktails and drinks. Food: Pizza Al Toro:God knows why I never took pictures of it (perhaps to hungry). The pizza I ordered was decent, but not something exciting. You will get bored after a few bites. It was however not dry and given a generous amount of toping. Pasta Nera Con CalamariAlso known as Squid Ink Pasta. The pasta here is the bomb! Freshly made, the fettuccine was al dente, subtle yet bursting with seafood essence. They are generous with their seafood as well. Spaghetti alla CarbonaraAlso known as spaghetti carbonara was lovely. Rich, creamy, so flavourful and al dente makes it a wonderful experience. TiramisuWe were greedy! Haha. By this time we were stuff full but yet we just have to try their desert. Tiramisu was acceptable, the sponge finger layers weren’t that dry, but more mascarpone cream would be better. Service: Good and their staff were polite. They were knowledgeable with their menu. Verdict: The chef here has the golden touch towards pastas! I have not venture into their other offerings but I reckon it should be good as well. Since I used voucher, I paid roughly about Rm60-ish for all of the above. I will go again, lovely ambience, friendly staff and delicious food! continue reading

Porto Romano's latest outpost is an elegant space sequestered in an improbable location: The Intermark's basement food court. The menu here is vast, filled with crowd-pleasing favorites such as seafood risotto. Creamy & al dente, with sufficient squid, mussels & prawns to curb complaints. Lobster-stuffed ravioli. Kids might enjoy this, since it packs a wallop of flavor. But the subtler crustacean nuances are lost in the tangy tomato-&-lemon gravy. continue reading

This marks the beginning of my Intermark food crawl. Kicking of with a rather interesting fusion of cusine with Albanian, Italian and Mediteranean influences. We settled down and was prepared to start with a cold beer to cool down. Eddie suggested that I start with wine. Awesome as I wasn't really in the mood for bubbles. House wines are Canepa's Classico range. Red or white I had bothI have a weak spot for grilled vegetables. Verdure alla Griglia ~ Grilled Vegetables is a beautiful appetizer of very colourful platter of tomatoes, aubergines, capsicums and zucchini. Light with a refreshing taste of balsamic vinegar with the some pungent chopped garlic. This is such a must order for my next visit!Zuppa ala Porto Romano ~ Porto Romano Seafood Soup is beautifully satisfying. Fresh seafood in a tomato base and herbs, I was happily slurping this soup. Every bite of seafood made this my favourite soup for the night.I am not much of a rice eater. But when it comes to risottos, I am quite amazed by my ability to eat rice. Here at Porto Romano, the Risotto Fruitti di Mare ~ Seafood Risotto was worth the wait (allow 20-30 minutes wait time if you order this). Every bit of the Italian Arborio rice was coated with the rich and creamy white wine sauce while the seafood was cooked just right.A little salty but nevertheless yummy would be the Spaghetti alla Puttanesca. A beautiful and el dente pasta flavoured with savoury Meditteranean anchovies, fillets, capiers and olives. Tender pieces of aubergine added colour to this very vibrant tomato based pasta.Stinco d'Agnello ~ Braised Lamb Shank is braised in oven fire slowly till its tender. This rich piece of tender meat is coated in a tasty tomato base that bears the juicy flavours of the lamb. Quite a generous size, I would advise to order this for sharingDessert! The Torta di Mele ~ Apple Pie arrives in a petite parcel and a dollop of delightful vanilla ice cream. Rich in cinnamon with lightly tangy apples and sweet raisins, this was my to die for dessert. Not much room left in our stomachs...the story continues soon at Porto Romano. Stay tuned for the next episode! continue reading
