Was here to celebrate colleague's birthday. We ordered the famous chicken, some veges, the soup, steamed fish, basically all the famous dishes.Very satisfied with this meal, despite being a bit expensive than the usual. The chicken meat was tender, not too firm yet not too soft, matched perfectly with the special sauce. The fish too, taste just as fresh with the ginger sauce! Service was good, friendly and helpful.A good family lunch/dinner place. continue reading

I don't know why my colleagues like Chicken Rice at Kong Sai so much. I guess if we eat it together with a lot of people, it is nice. Usually when I eat with a few more colleagues, about five of them, we usually order the signature Pork Curry, Stir Fried Bittergourd, Chicken Rice, Pork Balls and bean sprouts.I especially like the special pork balls though I am not a big fan of pork myself. The pork intestine soup is also delicious though a tad expensive at almost RM 20 for the soup with very little meat. The oil rice truly lives up to its name. Very oily indeed! And when eaten with the oily green ginger sauce, you will feel like you have just added 500 calories! To me, the chicken is just alright, not very tender but okay for the tastebud. The winner seemed to be the soyabean pudding which was amazing! It was very tender and soft and it melts in my mouth and is swallowed easily. The best part is the ample chilli at every table so much that I finished every single bit. continue reading

Kong Sai is one of those friendly neighbourhood kopitiam that is not very high profile, but still serves pretty good Guang Xi influenced dishes. When my family used to live in Taman Paramount, this was somewhere they used to go when they are out of ideas for meals. I have joined them once to find out the dish they always like to order. As you can probably tell if you read chinese, the peppery pig stomach soup is their signature dish (in fact you will see a big 'urn' out the shopfront that has the soup simmering away). So of course we ordered this, along with a few other interesting dishes. First to arrive was a dish with some thai influence, pickled chicken feet (literally translated to Glass chicken feet). This was really tasty. With strong vinegary hint and potent chili, with enough sweetness to balance the dish. Very appetising. I believe Pork Trotter cooked in Vinegar is a Hakka dish. Here they didn't quite get the taste right, with just a bit too much sweetness and the vinegar wasn't punching through. The pork trotter also wasn't tender enough. The highlight of the night arrived and that was one piping bowl of soup. It was peppery alright, very satisfying with good depth of flavours. We also ordered this Pork curry. It looked really greasy so we had to carefully avoiding scooping out the oily bits. But the curry was tasty with robust flavours. I like how the potato soaked up the delicious curry gravy too. To fulfill our vegetable quota, we ordered some stir fried lettuce and it was cooked well, with enough crunchiness still intact. The service was polite and efficient and the dishes arrived very quickly. I saw many customers ordering the steamed chicken, I must try that again. continue reading

We also had their famous pork intestine soup which is served pipping hot in the claypot. The smells is really indulging my tastebuds and the soup is really lovely with the hot pepper soup. Inside the soup, you will find a generous portion of pork, pork intestines, and button mushrooms. Overall, I love it so much and it is indeed a good choice to have it during the rainy day.Taste: 5/5Price: RM 15.00 continue reading

The broiled cabbage in Restoran Kong Sai is OK, quite mediocre. It is done well, as it is still crunchy and not overcooked but nothing out of the ordinary. It was smothered in oyster sauce, with lots of fried onions on top. Served on a bed of soya sauce, you need to toss it yourself to get the ingredients to mix, else the cabbage leaves that has oyster sauce will be a bit to brackish. Overall, a good meal. continue reading
