Diversifying your portfolio reduces your risk, right? On paper, that's correct, but in the case of Neroteca's meat platter, it's just 3 times the disappointment.Beef and lamb were both tough and dry. I didn't appreciate the fact that the meat was both tough and fatty - it's usually one or the other, as trade-offs to each other. These were the worst of both worlds.Pork was bland, dry, and unexciting. The sauces were decent, but really this isn't a dish that's worth spending money or calories on. continue reading

A short stroll from the bustle of Changkat Bukit Bintang, Nero Teca scores points for staying open till midnight, offering hearty Italian grub at fair prices and having some of KL's most confident waiters. It gets cramped and crowded at peak hours, but that's part of its charm. Tagliere Neroteca (selection of cold cuts). Lip-smackingly good, especially the parma ham. Forget about supermarket cold cuts and get your meat fix here. Neroteca Salad (mesclun in thyme balsamic vinaigrette with croutons, four cheeses, crispy smoked pork bacon, shallots, sundried tomatoes, olives & grilled veggies). The vinaigrette seemed to overpower everything else. Or maybe we just don't like salads. Pasta Neroteca with wild boar ragout. Usually a good choice, but something went awry that night. They ran out of pappardelle and used spaghetti instead, turning this into a very ordinary spaghetti bolognaise. Tenimenti Nero d'avola IGT Vino Roso 2004, Nerocubano (rum anejo and squeezed orange on the rocks) and Nerostraw (strawberry cream, liquor, coffee and ice). continue reading

Most if not all authentic Italian dish contents either pork, wine or both. Substituting pork (e.g. bacon) with beef is not dissimilar like replacing olive oil with palm oil. This restaurant is one of the few non-halal authentic Italian in KL and has been our favourite Italian for a number of years.Among their pasta, Spaghetti Carbonara, porcini with ham and pesto are our favourite.Given small kitchen size, understand their desserts like tiramisu, etc are brought over from their sister restaurant Nerovivo. continue reading

CNY is round the corner. To usher in the Year of the Dragon, Neroteca is offering a range of Italian meat delights, with authentic flavors of lamb, pork and beef based cuisines. This is not just another Italian restaurant. Neroteca is a porky Italian restaurant. Cozy, tucked in the middle of KL city and serves pork...this place is already getting brownie points event before we taste the food. And it had quite a selection of wines! The selection of cold cuts was delightful. Nothing overly salty and perfectly cured, every piece was a delightful bite.Steak tartare was my fave for the day as I have yet to find many places that actually serve it. Fear not as the beef is really not all that raw. The other ingredient added into the minced Angus sirloin beef actually "cooks" the meat.Main was a trio of meat. The Porchetta ~ deboned suckling pig stuffed with sausage and capsicum. It was a bit too gamey for my personal liking. This I suspect is a personal preference as I am rather new to pork dishes (having on picked up pork dishes a couple of years ago).Sirloin Tagliata was a beautiful piece of meat. Grilled to perfection, it was nicely charred outside while the centre remained juicy and pink. Perfect! These are the experts at work. The best of the trio would have been the Grilled Lamb Rack. An utterly succulent lamb was bursting juices and melt in your mouth goodness. Some may argue that restaurants should not go wrong with lamb. But seriously, I have met my fair share of terrible grilled lamb. There's a selection of pastas as well but for now I am contented with my meats and beautiful wines. This new year head in for their wine and food pairing to usher in the auspicious year of the Dragon. continue reading
